Chapter 100

Bernard had trouble accepting the truth.

He had always thought of Jessica as a wise woman. To discover that she would go to such lengths to ruin Stella was shocking.

If her plan had worked, Stella’s reputation in high society would have been tarnished forever.

He would have been tied to her scandal.

“I didn’t do it!” Jessica pleaded with tearful eyes, “I don’t know why this happened. It was supposed to be a nice birthday party, and now it’s all ruined. I didn’t even get to play my piano piece or dance with Brian before he left with Stella.”

She wanted to accuse Stella of seducing Brian, but her words only made Bernard realize another truth.

Stella and Brian’s relationship wasn’t what Jessica had implied. Stella hadn’t seduced Brian. If anything, Brian seemed to care more about Stella than Jessica.

He felt like a fool. Bernard took a step away from Jessica.

He had trusted her because he knew and liked her, but he hadn’t expected her to use him to drive at wedge between Brian and Stella

“Bernard!” Jessica yelled. She ran after him before falling over. “Ah, my stomach hurts…”

“Bernard, please don’t ignore me,” she said as she sobbed miserably

Bernard stopped and turned back only out of concern for her stomach. But his compassion for her was.

gone.

“Jessica, is the child in your belly really Brian’s?” he questioned.

Jessica’s face faltered. She couldn’t answer.

Stella watched as the car pulled into Yolvencrest Estate. She fell silent.

Brian got out of the car. He furrowed his brow when he noticed that Stella hadn’t moved. “Aren’t you. getting out?”

“No, I should get back to the studio,” Stella replied.

Not wanting to go inside, she looked at Mike. “Mike, please take me back to Starlight.”

Mike didn’t dare make a decision on his own. He glanced at Brian.

Brian’s expression turned cold. He reached in and pulled Stella out of the car.

Stella gasped as she was scooped up into his arms. She was enveloped in his embrace, and she could.

catch a whiff of his cool cedar scent.

Stunned, she looked up at him.

Brian ignored her and camed her to the second floor. He threw her unceremoniously onto the bed in the

master bedroom.

“Why did you bring me back here?” Stella sat up, pulling the covers over herself defensively.

“To treat your injury.”

She looked confused. “I’m not hurt.”

“Isn’t your foot hurt?” he asked, looking at her.

Stella was surprised. “How did you know?”

“I noticed you walking strangely tonight. For someone who always wears high heels, you were in flats.” He

turned to get the first aid kit

Stella was surprised. She hadn’t expected him to notice.

Brian returned with the kit and sat down on the edge of the bed, taking off her shoes.

He held her foot, causing her to jump. She put her hand up to stop him. “I can do it myself.”

“I’ll do it,” Brian insisted, removing her flat shoes to reveal several unhealed blisters on her sole.

He frowned. “You went to the party with your feet like that? I don’t understand you at all.”

“You’ve got it wrong. I didn’t go to the party with him. Carrie made me go.

“Wasn’t it Carrie who set you up after you got there?”
