Chapter 147
Chapter 147
As Brian took a few steps, his phone rang. It was Jessica. “Brian, Mrs. Foley isn’t feeling well. She wants to see you.”
Brian glanced at Stella by the window. She was lying there quietly, seemingly lost in thought.
In the end, he didn’t go up to her. Instead, he turned and went to the hospital.
At the hospital, when Brian pushed the door open, Jessica was massaging Sharon’s stomach. Sharon. looked pale and seemed to be in bad shape.
*Mom, are you okay?” Brian sat down and held Sharon’s hand.
Sharon weakly patted his hand. “I’ve been having constant stomach pains. I guess I don’t have much time
left.”
s very
Brian’s face remained calm as he tried to comfort her. That’s not true. Medical technology is
advanced now. You’ll be fine once you have the surgery”
“Don’t lie to me. I need a total gastrectomy this time. Even if the surgery is successful, I only have a year
or so to live. If it fails, I might not make it off the operating table.”
“It won’t
come to that,” Brian reassured her.
Sharon placed his hand on Jessica’s hand and spoke weakly. “Jessica has been taking care of me at the hospital. She’s a very good woman. Don’t let her down.
Brian didn’t pull his hand away. Jessica took the opportunity to say, “Mrs. Foley, you’ll be okay. Brian and I have already discussed it.
“Once you’re better, we’ll have the wedding. You can be the officiant, so you have to stay strong.” Brian glanced at Jessica upon hearing that.
She smiled at him and then turned to Sharon before saying gently, “And our baby will be born in six months. Mrs. Foley, hold on a little longer, and you can hold your grandson.”
“Yes.” Sharon’s face lit up at the thought of the baby. “I’ll have a grandson in six months.”
She was so happy that her eyes sparkled. She held their hands tightly and told–Brian, “Brian, promise me you’ll marry Jessica.”
Her gaze fell on Brian, who pressed his lips together, remaining silent.
Sharon continued. “Don’t worry about Stella. I’ll take care of her. Although her dad caused a rift between our families with his actions, she has been married to you for two years.
“I won’t let her suffer. I’ve already promised her that after the divorce, she’ll get 10 million dollars. I also Introduced her to Yoel. They’ll be happy together.”
Brian remained silent throughout. With Sharon’s surgery approaching, he didn’t want to discuss anything
at this crucial moment.
Jessica’s agent, Anna, comforted Sharon. “Mrs. Foley, Mr. Foley treats you so well, and Jessica is very virtuous. You’ll surely live a long life and see your grandchildren.”
Sharon smiled and nodded. “Yes, grandchildren.”
Anna continued with a few more good wishes. Sharon was in a good mood but felt tired.
Jessica said, “Mrs. Foley, you have surgery the day after tomorrow. You should rest early tonight.”
“I must say what I need to. I’m afraid I won’t make it through the surgery. Brian, did you hear everything! said? Promise me you’ll marry Jessica.” She suddenly gripped Brian’s hand tightly.
Brian frowned slightly but finally agreed. “Okay.”
Sharon felt reassured and lay down. “Alright, I can sleep now. You both should go home.”
“Okay.” Jessica helped Sharon lie down. With a nurse watching over her, she and Brian left the room
together.
The hallway was quiet, and neither spoke. Jessica was in a good mood. She turned to Brian and asked, ”
Brian, shall we start preparing for the wedding now?”
