Since he came back from abroad, Joseph had lived with his grandfather, Leonard, who positively doted on his stern-faced grandson. As he grew older, Leonard’s attachment to his family had deepened. In recent years, he had changed his treatment of his remaining family, Joseph, from a strict military style to something softer, more befitting an old man. At this point, his grandson’s marriage was first and foremost on his mind. He knew that Joseph no longer believed in love because of the cause of his parents’ death on the same day. The loss had left a hole in his heart, but the extension of the Marshall family line could no longer be delayed. Leonard really hoped that Joseph could replace a woman and live a happy life.

Leonard’s hope was growing thin because Joseph hadn’t courted a woman in so many years, let alone found someone to start a family with. The wait was difficult for Leonard, who had long since been eager to hold a great-grandson in his arms. Even so, the wait was not in vain, as Joseph now had a woman he cared about now—a beautiful lady who came from an eminent family. Of course, he had to help Joseph. Therefore, Leonard ignored the man sitting opposite Ashley. For him, his target has already been locked: to have Ashley as his granddaughter-in-law.

Joseph came to his senses and saw his grandfather’s smiling face, which made him confused.

Feeling Joseph’s gaze on him, Leonard stopped smiling immediately and sat upright. “Look at those two people. They look perfect for each other!” After declaring this comment, he gave Joseph a secret glance to see if his expression would change.

The conflicting emotions in Joseph’s heart made him scowl, which he erased quickly from his face. However, this small change did not go unnoticed by his grandfather, who was famous even in the army for having eagle-sharp eyes. Leonard realized that his grandson had a thing for that woman.

Without waiting for Joseph’s answer, Leonard continued, “They must be brother and sister. Otherwise, why would they come here for dinner? Or maybe I was mistaken. They may be a couple. I don’t really know…” They often came here for dinner, so they knew the layout of the restaurant like the backs of their hands.

Upon hearing this, Joseph turned to look at Ashley again. This time, he carefully studied the faces of the two people and found certain similarities in their features. His eyes returned to the young man, identifying him as the current CEO of Guzman Group, Mike Guzman, whom he had met at a high-level business affair before. He had focused all of his attention on Ashley just now and totally ignored her companion.

‘Mike and Ashley?’ They had the same surname, and rumor had it that Mike’s sister led a low-key lifestyle. Few people knew what she really looked like. Thus, the possibility that the two were, in fact, brother and sister increased in his mind. Apparently, Ashley was not an ordinary woman. Even so, he was determined to pursue her and win her over. At this thought, Joseph felt the tension drain out of him. However, he immediately schooled his expression into its usual impassive mask when he caught sight of his grandfather’s expression. “Grandpa, why are you looking at other people? Let’s just eat.”

Joseph sometimes thought that his grandfather to be a terrible gossip, but his unconditional love for his only family helped him to look past that character flaw. He also knew that his grandfather worried and even despaired of him ever marrying. Although he himself had decided to marry Ashley, his grandfather’s unique insight warned him this time. At the sight of his curious expression, he decided to keep his interest in Ashley a secret for now, lest his grandfather would do something impulsive and make the woman even more resistant toward him. It never occurred to Joseph that he was becoming too interested, not to mention affected, by the woman that he had even begun considering her current situation.

Noticing the onslaught of emotions hitting Joseph, Leonard didn’t say anything more. After all, this dinner had given him so much. “Ah, you’re right. Let’s eat,” he replied with feigned seriousness.

The two men ate their dinner in silence, while Mike and Ashley had a pleasant dinner filled with laughter and sparkling conversation. After a while, the siblings got up and walked out of the restaurant. Mike drove Ashley to the biggest shopping mall in the city.
