Perfect Match: Irresistible Desire For You -
Chapter 407
Since childhood, the Marshall family’s children had always been intelligent, independent, and aloof. This often made Ashley feel both relieved and unfulfilled as a mother.
When the two children were ten years old, a young girl stayed over at their home. This cute, lovely girl brought instant happiness to Ashley. She finally experienced what it was like to be an ordinary mother.
One weekend morning, a beautiful woman was cooking in the kitchen while a handsome man helped her. The atmosphere between them was warm and welcoming.
This couple was actually Ashley and Joseph, whose relationship had become sturdier and more mature over the years. However, their love for each other never dimmed.
Ashley removed her apron after setting the food on the table. Walking over to the old man and young girl sitting in the hall, she gently said, “Grandpa, Brandi, breakfast is ready.”
The tall, slim old man with grey hair slowly stood up. Although he walked with a slight stoop, his strides were steady and powerful.
“Aunt Ashley, I’m going to wake up Darrel and Darlene,” said the little girl loudly, grinning from ear to ear.
Before the adults could respond, the slender little figure was happily hopping up the stairs.
Looking at Brandi walk towards the corridor, Ashley said softly, “What happened to Darrel and Darlene? Brandi, a guest, has gotten up before them!”
Brandi, who was the daughter of the Estrada family, had come to visit the Marshall family. This was because her parents were great friends with Ashley and Joseph.
Yasmin and Zachary had come to make a deal in Ariosa two days ago, so they decided to pay a visit to their friends. It was a mere coincidence that Brandi had begged them to take her along with them. She requested two days’ leave of absence from the school and visited the Marshall family with her parents. However, three days had passed, and she was still living with the Marshall family.
“It’s normal for children to sleep late on weekends,” said Leonard in a vigorous voice as he slowly sat down.
Leonard, the elderly man, always doted on his intelligent, lovely great-grandchildren. Oftentimes, he would refute the accusations made by the children’s mother.
Turning the doorknob easily, Brandi sneaked into Darrel’s room.
Getting close to the bed, she leaned forward and saw Darrel’s delicate, handsome face peeping out beneath the thin black and white quilt. His breathing was faint but steady.
“Wake up, Darrel!” said Brandi, her sweet, clear voice breaking the silence.
However, Darrel had already opened his dark eyes and was sitting up before she could get a word out.
“Um…You step out first,” said Darrel dryly as he glanced at the girl staring at him.
Darrel was as cold as his father and always kept his distance from strangers. And since he was unfamiliar with her, he treated her indifferently.
Actually, Brandi’s presence brought back bad memories for Darrel, so he didn’t want to get any closer to her.
After a pause, Brandi blinked and timidly asked, “Darrel, you want to change your clothes, right? Don’t worry, I can wait here.”
Brandi stood beside the bed in her pink dress with hands clasped together and her gaze fixated on the handsome young man in his cartoon pajamas.
“Wow, Darrel, your pajamas are so cute!” she said after some time had passed, and he still didn’t respond to her.
Darrel, who was pulling back the quilt, paused when he heard that. The corners of his mouth slightly twitched as he glanced down at his colorful pajamas, but he still didn’t reply to her.
Last year, his mother had gifted him these pajamas for his birthday. She had told him that these pajamas would make him appear cuter and less distant, and it brought about the image of a boy full of youth.
Noticing that he didn’t want to talk to her, Brandi just stood there in silence and watched him.
Unable to bear her intense gaze anymore, Darrel raised his cold voice and said in a somewhat helpless but softer tone, “Can you go out first? I want to change my clothes.”
They both silently regarded each other for a few seconds. “Darrel, I promise I won’t look at you. So, you can change,” said Brandi as she shook her head and turned around.
Darrel’s expression darkened in the face of her stubbornness. He looked at the slender back of the girl who couldn’t seem to understand what he was saying.
When Brandi didn’t hear any sounds after some time, she asked softly, “Darrel, are you still angry with me? I promise I didn’t mean to do that. I was really careless back then. Mommy did say that boys might become shy and angry if something like this happened to them. But so much time has passed since then. Can’t you forgive me now? Darrel…”
Brandi’s childlike voice faded away. Grabbing a suit of clothes, Darrel quickly walked into his bathroom. As he unhurriedly changed, his eyes wandered, and his handsome face was flushed.
Darrel breathed a sigh of relief when he could no longer hear her apologize from the other side of the door. Soon enough, Brandi stopped talking and sighed.
In the past ten years, only one thing could make Darrel, who was always cold, lose his cool.
Five years ago, Yasmin and Zachary came to visit the five-year-old Darrel and Darlene with their son and lovely three-year-old daughter, Brandi.
Perhaps it was because Brandi had been influenced by her mother, who wanted her to marry into the Marshall family, or because she was attracted to Darrel’s handsome appearance. But the little girl had fallen in love with Darrel at first sight.
So, upon their first meeting, she had announced that she would be Darrel’s bride.
The seriousness and firmness with which she had spoken had left everyone around her shocked and caused Darrel to become speechless.
The happiest person among them was Darrel’s future mother-in-law, Yasmin. Embracing her daughter, she kissed her happily and was proud that Brandi knew how to hook up with a wealthy person. Ruben, her son, however, made her frown when he remained indifferent to Darlene.
Yasmin and Zachary departed on the second day of their stay at the Marshall family house, leaving their children behind. Not having been able to go on a honeymoon five years ago, they flew to the Maldives to enjoy their belated honeymoon.
Therefore, Ruben and Brandi had no choice but to stay with the Marshall family for two months. These two children were more active than Darrel and Darlene, who were aloof by nature. However, after spending some time with Ruben and Brandi, the Marshall children became friends with them, and the four became happy and lively.
During this time, the luxurious and elegant Marshall family home was often filled with the laughter of the four children as they enjoyed many activities together.
The thing that cast a shadow over Darrel’s past happened at the end of the second month of Ruben’s and Brandi’s stay with them.
On that particular evening, the three children were playing a new card game while the three adults sat on the sofa and enjoyed a variety show in the spacious hall. At that time, they were all happy.
But in the middle of the game, Brandi suddenly said she was going to the bathroom, while two of her playmates were fiercely discussing a certain rule, so they didn’t hear what she said.
