Perfect Match: Irresistible Desire For You -
Chapter 419
The very next day, Darrel left quietly. When Brandi woke up, she went on with her daily routine as usual. She got washed, had her meals and went to sleep right on time. Nobody could tell that beneath her calm exterior, intense passion was hidden. She pretended as if no one was missing from the mansion.
Only her slightly red eyes and her stiff smile indicated the pain she was harboring in her heart.
On the tenth day of the long summer vacation, it was time for Brandi to leave the Marshall family. This had been her family for six years. The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow.
The Estrada family’s car was parked at the gate. The beautiful girl, Brandi, turned around and looked at Joseph, Ashley and Darlene who were reluctant to let her go. She wanted to say something but couldn’t frame her words properly. She resorted to just waving her goodbye.
When Brandi opened the car door, Darlene strode forward and asked gently, “Brandi, will you come back again?”
Although things had been very normal here, everyone knew Brandi still missed Darrel deeply. His disappearance had left her heartbroken.
When Darlene asked this question, Brandi’s gorgeous face broke into a gentle smile. Her eyes were a little teary. She gazed at the magnificent and classical mansion and a wave of nostalgia washed over her. “I will come back,” she assured.
Hearing this, Darlene breathed a sigh of relief and said, “That’s good. I was afraid you wouldn’t come back.”
Every time Brandi left for her vacation, everyone was reluctant to part with her. But the situation was very different this time. Darrel hadn’t come to say goodbye to her. And for the first time, Brandi was going back home without an ounce of emotion.
“Don’t worry. I have been here for so many years. How can I not come back?” Brandi asked with a smile.
“Well, do come here very often. If you can’t replace the time, I will come there to see you,” Darlene said briskly.
The two girls chatted for a while. Then, Brandi thought it was time for her to leave. “Goodbye, Darlene.”
Darlene’s face stiffened at the calm tone with which she said her farewell.
Darlene had never expected her to part ways like this. Looking at Brandi’s indifferent face, she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Darrel had broken her heart.
Darlene said nothing and Brandi took it as her cue to get into the car. She opened the door and almost got inside. Just then, Darlene called out, “Brandi, don’t lose your smile. I… will always be your best friend.”
Brandi seated herself in the luxurious car and a bright smile was on her face. “I won’t! Thank you, Darlene,” she said.
Throughout the journey, Brandi sat quietly in the car and gazed out of the window.
As she was pervaded by nostalgia of her days with Darrel, she sat calmly.
The quiet and calm life had lasted only for five years. But Darrel’s life had changed drastically. He couldn’t erase everything and ask for the simplicity he had lost. As time ticked by, his ache became more profound.
The fields were bathed in bright moonlight that night. Two slender figures stood alone in the open space.
“Brandi…”
The silence was broken by a boy’s voice. Just then, Darrel woke up with a start. He looked around and took in his dark room. Dawn was cracking through the window.
In his dream, he had been kissing Brandi and he could still taste the saltiness of her tears.
Although he knew it was just a dream, it was torturing him still the same.
“Damn it! I dreamed about it again!” he cursed under his breath.
He strode towards the bathroom carrying the sheet in his hand. In a swift motion, he threw it into the washbasin.
He leaned against the wall, listening to the sound of the running water.
His dream filled him with a sense of sadness. The girl in his dream was as beautiful as he remembered her. She was standing on tiptoe and kissing him as the moonlight shimmered on them.
In his dream, their k**s would never end. With their eyes closed, they were relishing the taste of each other. However, as soon as he opened his eyes, everything disappeared.
Before he woke up, he would listen to her sobs and taste her teardrop. Perhaps this was the reason why he always felt such intense sorrow.
This wasn’t the first time he had had this dream. It had been on repeat for days!
A floodgate of memories would come rushing back. He vividly remembered how she would break into his room without bothering to knock. She would sit there and chat incessantly. When they walked, her attention would be on him and she would forget to look ahead of the road. She enjoyed singing to him on their bike journeys. ‘Her voice is so beautiful and melodious,’ he thought to himself, his face contorting with bitterness.
With time, the memories wouldn’t fade. Strangely enough, they became more vivid.
He always forgot to lock his room and enjoyed having her come inside. He would save her every time she came upon an obstacle. Simply looking at her smiling face and listening to her songs filled him with peace.
He couldn’t get over the habits he had picked from her. For example, he still unlocked his door.
Even though she wasn’t with him, he always had a feeling she was.
Over the years, his love for her grew. He missed her voice terribly and the thought of her mischievous little face ached his heart.
The water was still running. With a faraway look, the handsome man recalled his sweet past.
Interrupting him from these thoughts, he heard a soft footstep from outside. His eyebrows twisted.
“Mr. Marshall, are you washing the bed sheet again?” A clear and bright female voice came from outside, a teasing note in her voice.
He wasn’t going to give her an answer to this question. Instead, he put on a cold voice and said, “You need to learn to knock before you enter my room.”
The beautiful woman with gorgeous yellow hair and bright blue eyes instantly understood she had made him unhappy. With a frown, she protested, “But you didn’t lock the door…”
He washed his hand and walked outside. With an icy cold glare, he warned, “Don’t do it again.”
He seemed rather aloof this morning. The light from the window glinted on his face.
After a moment of silence, she went on, “Mr. Marshall, you are going out of the base today. Can you tell my father to take me along?”
When she said this, the man remained silent. He had the sort of expression that made people confused. They couldn’t quite guess what he was thinking or feeling.
In order to persuade him, she went on, “I’ve been here for eight years. With my knowledge and skills, I am capable of replacing my father as your right-hand man.” There was a look of pure determination on the beautiful lady’s face.
His manner was cold and indifferent. “In that case, tell him yourself,” he said with a note of mockery.
“But he didn’t even ask me!” she protested. Taking a deep breath, she went on calmly, “He might think that I’m not qualified, but I think I am up for this challenge.”
Darrel shook his head and said, “Jane, you are too impatient. You aren’t really up for it until you change that about yourself.”
“Who told you that?” she demanded, fuming with indignation.
He gave no reply to that.
“Mr. Marshall, I have been living here for many years. If I continue to stay here, I will die of boredom. I have learned mountains of theories, received training, practice and fought hard every day. It’s time for me to go out and explore the big world.” Jane felt aggrieved.
For a split second, Jane looked like the girl he loved with all his heart. Brandi showed such a thirst for life. In spite of himself, he found himself saying, “Okay, I will talk to him.”
