Chapter 296 A Stubborn Man

"Is that another compliment, Deputy Commander in Chief?" Rocky said with a sly smile. He nowbelieved that Isis somehow thought highly of him.

"Fine. Yes, that was a compliment. My father has commended you in front of other people severaltimes. Even Mr. Sheridan often tells me of your talents,” Isis replied.

"What are you really trying to say?" Rocky was not convinced that Isis’ true purpose for inviting himhere was only to praise him.

"Who are you really, Rocky? There are just so many questions about you. We would like to knowabout the real you." Isis felt it was appropriate to tell Rocky her true purpose. The more she learnedabout Rocky, the more she found him special. The fight earlier allowed her to see more of Rocky'sspecial talents. Not only was he able to improve at a rate that was seemingly impossible, he alsohandled the fight in a manner that was astounding. Isis believed that Rocky's skill had something todo with who he really was.

"If you truly want to know, I suppose, I can tell you. The truth is that I am..." Rocky said and pausedon purpose and then stared at the two women.

They never expected Rocky to suddenly tell them the truth behind his identity. They slowly leanedforward towards Rocky in anticipation of Rocky's revelation.

"I'm the future emperor of the Holy Dragon Empire,” Rocky answered with a snobbish look.

"If you are the future emperor, then I am the future empress! Now stop talking crazy," Isis replied.She took Rocky's answer as another one of his jokes. She suddenly blushed as she realized that ifshe was to be the future empress then it was like she was saying that she would be Rocky's futurewife.

"Ha-ha-ha! I am not sure if you truly want to be my future empress. But since Deputy Commanderin Chief brought it up, I will definitely consider it seriously,” Rocky laughed loudly.

"Why you!" Isis replied in anger. Her lips trembled in anger, but more because it was her who gotherself into this predicament than because of Rocky's witty retort.

"Calm down Isis! He is just being absurd again. Are you really taking what he said seriously?" Marinsaid softly to calm Isis down.

"Well, you are right! That was just another one of his jokes." Isis blushed as her anger evaporatedinto thin air. The stoic Isis that Rocky was used to seeing was not the same Isis who was before himright now.

"You do not believe me?" What Rocky said was closer to the truth than the ladies realized. Sooner orlater, he would have to return to the Palace City, ascend to the throne and take back everything.Rocky told them the truth because the truth about him was crazier than the fiction that theyexpected to hear.

"Right! Who would be stupid enough to actually believe that? If you truly would become ouremperor, the whole country would be in flames. Give us some credit, will you? We are not thatstupid. Make up another story that is more convincing, little liar,” Isis replied with indifference. Shelooked at Rocky as if he was just another cocky man. But she could not see through Rocky's veil ofmystery. This made her crazy curious about him.

"I told you the truth and yet you do not believe it. That is no longer my fault,” Rocky replied withone eyebrow raised in jest.

Isis and Marin stared at each other. They were convinced that it was impossible to get a straightanswer from Rocky so they decided to leave it at that. However, they had another reason forbringing Rocky here.

"Rocky, listen to me very closely. The situation you are in right now is a little sticky. My fatheradmires your talents so much that he wants to promote you. But you refused him last time. Myfather is a stubborn man. He never gives up easily once he sets his eyes on something. What makesit worse is that the details about your identity is highly confidential at the headquarters and thismakes him want to know even more about who you really are. Expect that my father will not spareany resource to get what he wants. That means you will replace it hard to get away from him. And totell you the truth, my father organized this contest for you," Isis explained as her words caughtRocky off guard.

"For me?" Rocky replied back in complete shock. He never expected that Lance would go so far asto hold a tournament just for him.

"Yes. That's right. He wants to see the true extent of your skills and potential,” Isis answered with aserious tone.

"Whoa! I didn't realize how determined Commander in Chief can be," Rocky replied with a helplesssmile. He felt flattered and intimidated at the same time.

"In the first round of the contest, you already revealed the true extent of your fighting skills againstEvan. If you pretended to lose to Evan, then maybe father would change his mind. But now the dieis cast. Your fate is carved in stone. Father will do anything so he can promote you to be hissubordinate working at the headquarters,” Isis said seriously.

"So all this was planned! I should have fought like a weakling!" Rocky replied

"If you knew my father's plan beforehand, would you really fight like a weakling? Can you reallybring yourself to lose?" Isis asked suddenly.

Rocky froze at Isis’ words. She struck a note that echoed Rocky's weakness. Rocky was not the typeof person who would just let things pass. As soon as he found out that Evan was to be hisopponent, he lost his marbles and decided to teach Evan a lesson and avenge himself. He could notpossibly let such an opportunity to pass him by.

"Have you even wondered why your first opponent was Evan?" Isis asked.

"Is it because..." Rocky started to say something but stopped in mid-sentence. He suddenly realizedsomething that he failed to see before.

"Yes, my father arranged everything. He knows what Evan did to you. And he assumed that youwould fight at your full strength if Evan was to be your opponent. And my father was right,” Isisexplained.

"Commander in Chief is so clever!” Rocky realized that he had underestimated Lance completely.Before he even suspected anything, he was already deep in Lance's trap.

"Now that you know what kind of person my father is, you know that he will never give up until hegets what he wants," Isis said while staring straight into Rocky with her mesmerizing eyes.

"Why are you telling me this? You are his daughter. Shouldn't you be on his side? Aren't you worriedthat I will quit the competition now that I know of your father's plan?" Rocky asked with caution ashe tried to figure out the reason behind Isis’ revelation.

"Do you really think that it still matters now whether you know the truth or not? Now that you knowthe lengths that my father would go to get what he wants, it would be in your best interest to stopresisting against what he wants. I know you are not the type of person who'd simply agree to whatother people want. That is why I told you about my father's plan. Because you cannot win againstmy father. And if you were not my cousin's favorite subordinate, I would not bother telling you this.It's none of my business,” Isis taunted.

"Who said that he is my favorite? He is not my favorite at all!" Marin said, trying to contradict whatIsis said about her.

"Rocky, save yourself the trouble and just agree to the promotion. You can't change the mind ofCommander in Chief at this point. It will be totally worth your while anyway. You know you cannotwithstand the consequences of going against Commander in Chief." Marin tried to convince Rocky.Isis’ words brought a different realization for her, and she began worrying for Rocky.

She also knew her uncle very well. If Rocky managed to get Lance mad, the resulting backlash wouldnot be something that anyone could survive.
