Chapter 626 A Cooperation

All the women turned towards the direction of the voice and saw the groom himself, Rocky,approaching Isis.

"You can't just pop out of nowhere! You almost scared me to death,” Isis said with a playful tone.She was trying to mask the fact that she was feeling flustered at the thought of Rocky's eyes lookingat her with admiration. He was staring at her so blatantly that Isis almost felt embarrassed in front ofthe maids.

"Mr. Bai, get out of here please. You're not supposed to see the bride before the wedding,remember? It's a tradition!" Sue shouted as she rushed towards Rocky and pushed him out of thedoor.

Rocky shrugged and did as ordered. He proceeded to return to his room to continue cultivation buta guard stopped him in his tracks.

"Commander Rocky! I am so glad to bump into you! The Commander in Chief asked me to look foryou. Come, let's go to him," the guard stated carefully not sound disrespectful.

"Alright, let's go." Rocky followed the guard towards the conference hall.

A full conference hall welcomed Rocky. In the middle, Lance was seated with Allen, head of EliteRegiment. Beside him, a familiar bald man sat. It was the second chair of Elite Regiment, Sheehan.However, there was still an unfamiliar middle-aged man to the left of Lance. And the uniformedcommanders did not look like members of the Crimson Dragon Army. Rocky stared at the middle-aged man across the room. He could tell that he was a cultivator of the Supernal Stage or at least aman of special position.

As soon as Rocky stepped in, all the people in the room turned to look at him. Instantly, Rocky feltvulnerable. He could tell that there was tension in the room and that the people were not looking athim pleasantly. Sheehan, especially, stared at Rocky almost angrily. Rocky figured that he must haveknown that the Sea Blue Magic Jade was in his pockets. But that wasn't too likely. Rocky nevermentioned the Sea Blue Magic Jade to anyone. He knew that the mere possession of such raretreasure would make him lots of enemies.

"Commander in Chief,” Rocky addressed Lance with a curt bow.

"Is this your future son-in-law? He looks quite dashing, if I may say so myself!" the middle-agedman remarked as he stood by Rocky to observe his face. Rocky could see disdain in his eyes despitethe praises coming out of his mouth.

"Rocky, meet Buff Xiahou, the Deputy Commander in Chief of Magic Dragon Army. As you know,that is one of the four great armies.” Lance made the introductions and Rocky noted the knowinglook in Buff's eyes. It was as if he knew of Rocky already.

"Nice to meet you, Deputy Commander in Chief," Rocky greeted with a slight bow.

"Don't be so formal with me. I've heard a lot about you and I replace you quite impressive. Is it true thatyou only used 10000 city guards to defend against 30000 army of Timber Deity Empire? You showdeep knowledge in the art of war. At your age, that is truly rare,” Buff said. Once more, Rocky senseda suspicious glimmer in his eyes that did not match what he was saying.

"Thank you. But perhaps I just got lucky," Rocky said modestly.

"Rocky," Lance started excitedly. "Buff generously gifted us with 30 thousand elites from the MagicDragon Army under the order of His Majesty. Among them, there was a team of spirit manipulatorsat the Heavenly Stage. With their help, we can easily win all our battles!" It was obvious that he wastrying to contain his excitement.

"As your wish, sir,” Rocky said with a nod and said nothing more.

Lance looked to the Deputy Commander in Chief. "Buff, Rocky will be leading the Crimson DragonArmy. I hope you can share with him some of your wisdom," he said.

"Are you serious, General Lance? Why would you hand over the control of the army to this youngman?" Buff looked horrified. He had no idea prior to that moment about that huge task given toRocky. He was especially mortified at the thought of Lance making that decision. He had alwaysregarded Lance as impressive, especially in the way he ran the army. Giving such a huge task toRocky seemed irresponsible. Buff barely knew anything about Rocky, but he doubted he had a lot ofexperience behind him. He was too young to have spent significant years in the army, much lesscommanding one. Whatever small victory he had was most likely just luck, as Rocky admittedhimself.

"This is the most serious decision I have ever made in my life, Commander Buff. Rocky may lookyoung but he is an experienced leader. His intelligence is beyond his youth. I am honored to havehim command our army," Lance stated with conviction.

Buff's lips curled into a sly smile. It was clear that Lance had made his decision. There was no pointfor him to try to persuade him otherwise. He was still convinced that Lance was being rash anddecided to report it to the emperor as soon as he could.

After a few more moments of small talk, Buff excused himself together with his subordinates."Commander in Chief, it looks like Deputy Commander in Chief Buff is still not convinced withRocky," Allen confided as soon as Buff left.

Lance shrugged. "That's his choice. He may be capable but he is arrogant. I'd be more surprised ifhe just took the news as it is. Don't worry about him, Rocky. His opinion barely matters.” Lancefurrowed his brows as he thought of Buff.

"I have a question, Commander in Chief. Aren't the forces of Crimson Dragon Army enough? Whydo we need the support of the other armies?" Rocky asked.

"This battle has stretched on for too long. We have already lost a lot of our forces. We still need tosend some to guard the border cities. We'd need more if we want to mobilize an army. We shouldbe grateful that His Majesty sent thirty thousand elites from the Magic Dragon Army here," Lanceexplained.

"I bet we'd make good use out of them.” Rocky looked contemplative. He knew he needed toexpect the worst from Buff.

"We need to get Buff on our side. He has powerful military skills. He could be helpful to us,” Lanceweighted his words.

"How does he fare compared to you?" Rocky asked bluntly.

"That's not an easy thing to measure. In the military, each one has their own strengths andweaknesses. Buff is good at fast attacks. He can mobilize his soldiers efficiently, as if they have fourlegs. They can also be sneaky. He had already defeated quite a few well-known commanders offoreign countries. Don't treat him lightly,” Lance reminded.

"Oh, I won't,” Rocky replied with a nod.

"You're a great man, Rocky. But try to be a little modest. At the end of the day, you're the oneleading the army," Lance added

"If I may ask again, are you really sure of handing over the leadership to me? I do hope you havethought this through," Rocky asked earnestly.

"Of course I have considered this well. I will not just allow Isis to marry you based on my own hastydecisions,” Lance affirmed.

Rocky smiled. He was convinced that Lance expected highly of him. Losing against the Timber DeityEmpire meant that Lance would also lose dignity.

"Allen, your job is to assist Rocky from now on. Please don't let me down.” Lance turned to Allenand ordered him.

"I won't let you down,” Allen said to Lance. "Commander Rocky, I look forward to helping you out."Allen got up and walked towards Rocky.
