Rebirth of the Prime Dragon Master -
Chapter 741 An Unprecedented Event In History
At the break of day, the entire Palace City was filled with white flags. Even the entire Imperial Cityraised colorless banners. The death knell sounded incessantly as gloom lingered on. It was a time ofsadness, and people from the city wore white clothes to express their sorrow. The streets werecrowded with people, from the entrance of the Palace City to the west gate of the Imperial City. Alengthy procession covered the ten-mile long street. The scene was unbelievable. Such display ofextravagance was only witnessed after the death of an emperor, and never for a prince.
Before long, the sound of funeral music was heard inside the Palace City. The melancholy song didnot offer any comfort to the people, because soon enough a golden coffin came into view. It wasaccompanied by thousands of people, led by the guards of the burial team. The golden coffin wascarefully designed as ordered by the emperor himself. Even if the instruction was to finish itovernight, the golden coffin was not built in haste. It had a unique design and was exquisite inappearance. A coffin covered in elegance, fit only for royalty. Nonetheless, it was unoccupied. Only afew of Basil's cherished possession was inside.
The royal members and the burial guards all wore white underclothes, covered by a black robe. Theattendees present during the funeral included the emperor and all the army generals. Most of themlooked sad and silently wiped the tears from their eyes. However, it was not because of a personalloss or sorrow, but because of the underlying circumstances.
Still, some people from the crowd grieved deeply and were heartbroken. Lance, Allen, and soldiersunder the Crimson Dragon Army mourned in silence. Isis took it hard and was crying a river. Thebravery that had always covered her beautiful face was now replaced with sadness and misery. Theferocity in her eyes had disappeared and was now replaced with longing and despair. Her eyes werered, swollen. People around her knew she spent the night crying in pain, and there was nothing theycould do to console her. She looked tired and cried silently as she followed the golden coffinreluctantly. Every step was filled with anguish, and the pain in her heart was beyond words.
Marin walked alongside Isis. They spoke no words. She did not look as distressed as Isis, but she toobroke down at the thought she would never see Rocky again. She had always been infatuated withRocky and it saddened her that he died at such a young age. Her heart stopped beating for a whileand it was mostly for what her cousin was going through right now. It was just recently, when Isismarried the man of her dreams, and now her husband was gone forever. She knew the relationshipwas not for real, but Isis’ swollen eyes told her everything. Marin realized that her cousin had fallenfor Rocky. The sorrow that was painted all over her face was undeniable.
However, something was amiss. There were three people missing from the crowd. Marcia, Sabina, and Lena were nowhere to be found.
The golden coffin was quietly taken out of the Palace City, followed by the people from the funeral. With a solemn face, they marched along the main street of the Imperial City. Civilians waitedpatiently on the streets. It was to honor and send off their prince for the last time. The crowd driftedoutside the west gate. An endless procession was headed towards the Holy Dragon Imperial Tombtwo or three miles west to the city.
The Holy Dragon Imperial Tomb was the resting place of all the departed emperors of the HolyDragon Empire. Members of the royal family, even children of the emperor, could not be buriedthere. Nevertheless, the current emperor made an exception for Rocky. For the first time in theirlong history, a departed prince would be laid to rest there.
A magnificent funeral hall was installed inside the Holy Dragon Imperial Tomb overnight. Thousandsof paper soldiers and paper horses were arranged on both sides of the hall. The display lookedmarvelous, suited for the valiant character of the deceased prince. For the duration of the funeral, black and white silk ribbons lined up the outskirts of the hall. They danced softly with the movementof the wind.
The golden coffin was placed carefully in the middle of the hall. The guards bowed their heads for afew minutes in front of the coffin, and then left quietly. The emperor walked towards the HolyDragon Imperial Tomb followed by the royal members and generals. They then positionedthemselves and started the ceremony for Basil.
Isis, Basil's wife, was asked to sit on her heels alongside the coffin during the ceremony. In tune withtheir tradition, she was required to keep vigil beside the coffin for seven days. After seven days,Basil's coffin would be buried in the imperial tomb.
Afraid that Isis would fall apart, Marin stayed and sat on her heels beside her. Deep in her heart,Marin longed to accompany Rocky on his last trip in this world. She wanted to be an essential partof his journey in the afterlife, and not just take part in the ceremony like everyone else.
As the ceremony was about to start, Marcia and Sabina, who were missing since the beginning, came in unexpectedly. They staggered as they walked in and shocked the surrounding people. Thetwo of them stopped right in front of the coffin and sat on their heels just like Isis and Marin. Thepeople looked at each other, horrified with their action.
"General Marcia, you're not supposed to..." Isis shouted. Her eyes widened in complete surprise. Shedid not understand what she just saw. It was a dishonor, and she wanted an explanation. Based onthe old traditions, only important family members could keep vigil beside the coffin. Both Marciaand Sabina were not in any way related to Rocky by blood. Thus, it was wrong for them to sit besidehis coffin.
"I will stay here for Prince Basil for seven days,” Marcia replied without looking at the surroundingpeople. She looked determined, and her tone of voice was serious.
Her declaration startled everyone around her. Marcia had earned a prominent position in the HolyDragon Empire, and they considered her a Great General. She knew about the rules and traditions. No Great General had ever knelt down in front of a prince's coffin throughout the entire history. Shealso did not bother to explain the reason for her action and this triggered the curiosity of thepeople.
Not far away from the scene were the royal members and generals. They whispered amongthemselves and shared each other's speculations. Suddenly, a rumor spread among the people inthe crowd about Rocky and Marcia having a special relationship. For them, there was no otherreason.
The turn of events also puzzled the emperor, but he chose not to say anything. He had knownMarcia for a long time. She was a trusted Great General and a good friend to Rocky. At the back ofhis mind, he was convinced that she must have a good reason for her action.
"Sabina, are you going to do the same as your master?" Isis asked in a weak voice. She looked atSabina as her sad eyes searched for an answer.
"I should have protected him, but I failed. I feel responsible for his death. Not just for seven days, Iwill accompany him for seventy days..." Sabina replied firmly. Her face showed no emotion, butdeep inside, she was filled with remorse and guilt feelings. She blamed herself for Rocky's death andthe thought that she would never see him again continued to punish her.
"You don't have to feel guilty. You know Rocky. I'm sure he will not blame you for his death,” Isissaid. Her voice turned warm and friendly as she spoke with Sabina. However, tears rolled down herface as Rocky's face flashed through her mind once again.
Amid the commotion caused by Marcia and Sabina, a delicate figure appeared at the entrance ofthe imperial tomb. Her clothes were all white and gleamed under the sun. She had a beautiful facethat matched her stunning figure. However, her enchanting aura did not match the misery on herface. Her eyes were filled with sorrow and soon glistened with tears.
The figure walked towards the hall as the people watched her in silence. She stopped in front of thegolden coffin and gazed silently at the empty casket. A moment later, she turned to look at the fourwomen on the floor, and said in a deep voice, "I am too late.” With her head bowed, she took a steptowards Isis and sat on her heels next to her.
The shock in the crowd had doubled. Beautiful women had appeared one after the other, and theyall wanted to stay beside Rocky's coffin.
The woman in white was none other than Lena.
"What is happening? What is Her Royal Highness doing here?" People whispered under their breathThey could not believe that Lena appeared and wanted to keep vigil beside Basil's coffin as well. The noise inside the mourning hall intensified as the people chattered among themselves. Thescene that unfolded before them was extraordinary and made them question Basil's character."Your Royal Highness, please..." Isis started to say, but stopped herself without asking why. She wasa little surprised and flattered to see General Marcia, but it stunned her beyond words to have theWitch's presence beside her. Lena held a very prominent position in the country. The authority thatshe possessed was next to the emperor himself. Isis did not dare to continue her question. However, all these confused her to no end. How many things did Rocky keep from her? Do these two mostpowerful women have something to do with him?
Isis was not the only one at a loss. Everyone at the funeral were asking the same question.
Far back from the crowd, Alston seethed with anger when he saw Lena sat on her heels for Basil. Henever expected that Basil could still piss him off even after he died.
The atmosphere inside the hall remained intense as five powerful and beautiful women sat on theirheels beside the coffin. Each of the five women wore the same grief-stricken expression, as if painand misery swallowed them.
It was no big deal, if only they were ordinary women. However, all of them were renowned beautiesfrom the Holy Dragon Empire. One of them was an acclaimed Great General, while one was theWitch. The rest were future successors of famous and high-ranking families. Any of them wasenough to cause an uproar in the Holy Dragon Empire.
