Chapter 834 Before the Contest Started

Rocky didn't know what the magic pill that Robin took could do. He didn't know that it did morethan just improve the spiritual power of spirit-manipulated beasts; it also transformed them intosuperior ones. It was almost like gene modification but, instead of changing the gene, it directlychanged the spiritual source.

No human could change the spiritual source. Only a spiritual race with strong enough power couldmake any impact.

Rocky made the mistake of giving the magic pill to Robin before he understood what it did. As aneffect, Robin evolved into a guardian beast—a spirit-manipulated beast owned exclusively by thespiritual race. While Robin was not as strong as a real guardian beast, the pill gave it the foundation.All it needed was that Rocky would help it become powerful as a real guardian beast if he acquiredthe gene modification techniques. With his help, Robin would certainly become a legendary spirit-manipulated beast.

When Rocky realized what had happened to Robin, he immediately let it absorb all the spiritualpower he had absorbed from it. Fortunately, no uncomfortable situation arose.

Then, Rocky collected the sample taken from Robin's body and went back to the laboratory toconduct a genome analysis.

The results startled Rocky. By comparing the mutated genome with the original one, he found outthat Robin's mutated genome had been recombined.

This demonstrated that the spirit-manipulated beast's genome could be recombined in addition toits modification. Rocky had guessed that the genome's recombination was beyond a human'scapacity.

"There must be a certain kind of power hidden in the magic pill which I didn't realize. It's powerfulenough to bring about the recombination of Robin's genome. This is a remarkable gene mutation.”Rocky was thrilled. But when he realized that the only magic pill available had been swallowed byRobin, he became upset. He had to replace another one so he could study it carefully.

He was disappointed in himself for underestimating the magic pill. It was a good thing that Robinwas a half spiritual race. If he had given it to someone ordinary, then he wouldn't have seen thesame results.

Something about the results puzzled Rocky. He found a strange gene sequence change bycomparing the genomes before and after the mutation and by analyzing some data he hadcollected during the mutation. Unfortunately, he lacked the time to conduct an in-depth research sohe could not confirm that such change could make the spirit-manipulated beast evolve. But for himthe gene sequence change was a good news. Otherwise, the experiment on Robin would have beena failure because of the genome recombination caused by the magic pill.

Rocky was itching to conduct a thorough analysis of the mutation. But he had been out for a wholeday and night and the Beast Master Contest was to be held the next day. So he decided to leave theMagic Spiritual Space and ride back to the Cao Clan mansion on Rainbow Glow Unicorn.

The moment he stepped into the Cao Clan mansion, he felt the tension in the place. Everyone wasbusy preparing for the Beast Master Contest.

Rocky went back to the Osmanthus Yard and headed to his room. He found Juey lying face down onhis bed, sleeping soundly.

"Does this girl even know the danger of lying on a man’s bed without any precaution?" Rocky gazedat Juey and shook his head. He walked up to her to cover her up with a quilt.

Before he could, Juey woke up.

"You're back, Mr. Rookie? Where have you been?" Juey rubbed her bleary eyes and sat up.

"Dealt with some business. Why were you sleeping in my room?" Rocky asked with a slight smile.

"I was here since last night. I fell asleep waiting for you.” Her face blushed.

"Go back to your room and catch up on sleep,” Rocky persuaded.

"No need. The Beast Master Contest is coming. I want to take the time to learn a few more movesfrom you. I wouldn't want to embarrass myself on stage.” Juey got out of bed and playfully nudgedRocky.

Rocky paused for a while, not sure if he should agree. A few minutes later, he finally said, "Fine." Hethen grabbed Juey by the arm and left with her.

The sun was rising. It was the day of the contest.

The Beast Master Contest was set in the Qi Clan mansion. The Beast Masters from the Timber DeityEmpire's dominant clans were led by their own chiefs as they arrived the earliest in the mansion.The Beast Master Contest was a triennial grand event in the Timber Deity Empire. Many seniorofficials and significant personalities attended to watch. Even the royal families and members of thecapital's aristocrats had arrived.

The Qi Clan mansion bustled with horses and carriages. The house was crowded with people ingorgeous costumes and attire.

The mansion was an enormous place. It was home to large and ornate architectural pieces. It was alofty and magnificent structure with great scenery more magnificent than that of the Cao Clanmansion’s. It was regarded like a small royal palace.

Early in the morning, Lucilla and Lucas took their eleven Beast Masters to the Qi Clan mansion.These eleven masters were carefully selected from the Cao Clan and its affiliated clans. Their lineupincluded Queenie and Xiao Clan’s three siblings, Juey, Mary, Travis.

They were supposed to bring twelve Beast Masters, but due to Rocky's refusal to attend the contest,they only brought eleven. Rocky had recommended Juey to take part in the Beast Master Contestinstead of himself.

However, after a discussion with Lucas, Lucilla still reserved one empty seat in case Rocky wasneeded.

The Cao Clan gambled on Rocky.
