In the pack, Hailey tried to carry on with her Luna duties. But she found it hard and boring. She soon started to lag behind her work and started to spend most of the time locked away in her room. She didn’t want to talk to anyone, she even stopped having her weekly gatherings with her closest friends or going for shopping with them – something she really enjoyed.

She rarely got out of the room, even to have food. She would rather order the food to be brought to her room. Literally, she started to avoid meeting others and started to live in solitude in her room. Cade continued to come home late and avoid talking with Hailey. Hailey would often stay awake for him, regardless of how late he came to sleep, but it didn’t make any difference for him. He would just say nothing and go to sleep and then wake up the next day to start his work. Hailey would cry to sleep every night. She tried her best to talk to Cade but it was useless. After two weeks of non stop trying, she finally gave up. And then she stopped taking care of herself.

Hailey lied on the cold marbled of the floor. Cade had left once again. No matter how hard she tried, he wouldn’t even look in her direction.

“I am being punished. I am so useless. I shouldn’t have rejected my true mate.” She kept murmuring to herself as tears streamed down her unwashed face.

“I am so stupid. I am such an idiot.” She murmured.

“Maybe I should have left the pack with David.” A new set of years streamed down out of her eyes.

“David. Where are you?” she gasped through her sobs. She didn’t even know if he had survived. Maybe he died. She thought, crying silently.

“If you really are gone, I also don’t want to live anymore.” Sobbing hysterically she whispered to herself. She no longer cared about her social status which she worried about the most. All what she wanted was David. Her true mate.

Meanwhile, elder Barron decided to meet his daughter after weeks passed by with out her not attending the Luna’s duty. He thought that she needed to take a break from work as it was hard and tiring, but when he started to see less and less of her as days passed by he started to feel troubled. At first he tried to speak with Cade, but it was in vain. He would either dodge the topic or be too busy with his work. Finally he entered the alpha’s quarters and knocked on her door. He just had to see his daughter. He had to understand what was going on.

There was no answer. Furrowing his eyebrows, he tried again. But nothing.

“Hailey?” he called out, his wrinkled face contorted in concern. Hailey must be inside. He sniffed the air to confirm the presence of his daughter. Yes. She was here.

“Hailey. I know you are in here. Open up. It is me. Dad.” He called.

Hailey lied on the floor, feeling too lethargic to stand and walk towards the door. But then, it was her father. The one who had been her support from day one.

Hailey forced herself to get up and dragged herself to the door. Taking in a deep breath and wiping away her tears, she turned the door knob and opened the door, to face a very worried man. She thought she would be able to control he tears, but as soon as she saw her father, she burst into tears.

Elder Barron gasped when he saw her condition. Dark circles under her eyes, tangled hair and puffy eyes. She didn’t look as if she had taken a shower in a long time. This wasn’t the Hailey he knew.

“Baby. What happened?” he gasped.

“Daddy….. I am being punished. I shouldn’t have rejected him. I shouldn’t have chosen someone else.” She sobbed hysterically as elder Barron tried to calm her down.

“hey hey. Baby. Tell me. What is going on? There must be a good solution for everything. We have always faced the troubles. And we will face it again.” He wiped away her tears.

“Now stop and tell me. What happened?” he asked softly.

“Cade… Cade met his mate and ….and he … he wants her…he is….”

Hailey could no longer say anything. She sobbed and wailed in to her father’s arms who held on to her as she cried.

“Hailey. Please. Stop crying. Now what don’t you go and take a shower or a bath. I will be back in a while. We will see what we can do about this. I can take you to have your favourite ice cream too.” He said and Hailey nodded.

“Ok. I’ll try.” She answered and disappeared b hind the door.

Elder Barron, now upset and fuming in anger stomped towards his private quarters. After locking the door, he walked towards the safe vault that he had hidden from the rest of the world. He opened it and peeked inside.

A purple glow quickly filled the whole room and an evil smirk crooked his lips.

“It is time for me to unlock your powers.” He whispered to himself. But then he close the safe and prepared to attend his daughter first

David pov.

We have been training for the past few months, ever since I was accepted into the vampire community as Carol’s beloved. I watched as the army trained, satisfied by their work rate. We were going to attack soon and this time, they certainly didn’t stand a chance.

“David.” King Richard’s deep voice made me turn around.

“How is our army doing?” he asked.

“They are doing great. I think we are all ready now.” I replied.

Suddenly he stiffened. His eyes flicked between red and green for sometime and he looked as if he was he might pass out.

“The opal!” he gasped.

“Some one trying to use it. I can sense it!” he furrowed his eyebrows and looked around.

“Come on! We must see the seer”

He grabbed my hand and started to drag me out of the training ground and out of the palace. I followed him wordlessly, as he rushed through the thick foliage until we reached an old hut. The walls were made of thick and huge blocks of concrete that had moss growing over it whole the small hut was roofed with what looked like thatch.

After taking a deep breath, he knocked on the wooden door.

“Come in, oh great king.” Answered a monotonous voice.

He opened the door and we stepped inside. An old man was seated in front of what looked like a crystal ball. His eyes were lowered as he kept it fixed on the ball in front of him. His wrinkled old face showed no emotions. His silvery white hair cascaded down his back. Every single strand of hair on him was white. Even the eyebrows and eyelashes. With pale skin and white hair, he looked like a ghost. His lips were drawn into a thin line as he concentrated on something.

“I have been expecting you.” His voice was solemn.

King Richard sighed.

“I am sorry about my previous outburst years ago seer Fredo. I….”

“Yes. You are sorry. But I didn’t get to finish what i wanted to say that day.” He slowly lifted his eyelids and looked at us.

“Your daughter is destined to do great things. But only if she excepts her destiny. It is not normal for a vampire to be paired with a wolf but she is an exception. Together they will conquer the world.” He muttered.

“Now you want to know about the opal. It’s powers will stay unlocked. But you must hurry. They will try to use dark magic to unlock it. If they succeed it will be the end of everything.” He said.

He lips twitched a little. It was kind of creepy that this old guy knew each and every thing we wanted to know before we asked him a single question.

“The worst pain is when the ones closest to you stab behind your back. And being framed when you are innocent is worse.” He murmured staring deeply in to me. My mouth open a jar. What was he talking about? Was he talking about my pack.

“Young lad, do you want to know who had been stabbing you?” he asked when I stayed glued to my position.

“Huh?”

His empty eyes and emotionless face remained the same. His eyes once again curtained behind his long silver lashes as he stared at his crystal ball.

“Hard days ahead

Lies for the pack

They’ve broken the pact

Made centuries back

They really must dread

For they have stabbed

The one who could protect them from the king’s wrath

They are in trouble

And it will soon double

How dare they poison

Their own with no reason

Who sneaked in the poison?

There is no question.

Granted full access only is one”

I couldn’t believe my ears. He was talking about my pack. Granted full access only is one? Could that mean……

“Uhhh. Seer Fredo, I think it would be helpful if you wouldn’t speak in riddles.” King Richard murmured. But he didn’t respond. He didn’t move. He didn’t even blink. Sighing the king Richard patted on my shoulder.

“I guess that’s all for tonight.” He said.

We walked outside. I felt that my head might burst with the new information. Only one. Yes, I had given full access to just one person who I thought I could trust. My heart was racing as I felt anger rise.

“He seemed to have talking about your grandma’s poisoning.” He said. “I wish he named the person. It would have been clearer.” He said.

But it was clear enough for me.

“My beta…” I whispered, my eyes wide with fury.
