Chapter 10

Percy’s POV

B***d Claw Pack

This has been a weird night. I thought I scented my mate when we first came into the auditorium meeting hall earlier, but it was only Timothy, Fallon, and some really skinny blonde girl. They were obviously having a disagreement, as the girl was on the floor. My first thought was to run to her and see if she needed help, but Alpha James, who was clearly embarrassed, had them all leave the area. The scent was faint, but it was there, and I felt anger towards Timothy. I could see the imprint of his hand on her cheek, and I knew he had struck her.

I wanted to go to her and see if she was OK, but she hopped up quickly and took off into the kitchen. I could see that Timothy was stressed, and Fallon was doing something on her phone. They left together, quietly speaking to each other as they headed to the stage as his father instructed them to. I looked over and saw my grandfather, Heath, looking at me with a frown, and the rest of the group headed to the front to get seats while we stood there. I kept glancing towards the door of the kitchen, as I was getting antsy. My wolf, Aramis, is pacing and agitated.

“Is there a problem, Percy? Do we need to go and check on the girl?” my grandfather asked me. I shook my head slowly.

“I caught a faint whiff of strawberries and cream and I think my mate is here somewhere, but I barely caught the scent. It is not strong for me at all, so she may not be here. She may have just passed through earlier. We can go grab seats. If I am lucky, she will come to the mandatory meeting, and I will replace her then”, I told him, and he nodded. I know he is really happy about this now, as they have all wanted me to replace my Goddess-given mate.

While we were waiting for everyone to arrive for the mandatory meeting, I called my brother as I stood at the side of the entrance to the room and took a deep breath as people entered the meeting hall.

“What’s up, Percy?” Dawson asked me, with a laugh.

“I found the pack my mate is in, she is in the B***d Claw pack, and I will replace her after the meeting tonight,” I told him.

“You let her get away from you?” Dawson said, and I know his mouth dropped open at my words.

“No, her scent was so faint when I came here, I don’t know who the scent belongs to yet. I will try to replace her after their engagement is announced. Do not worry, I will not be leaving here without her. She smells so good to me. I may even cut short the trip, as Heath wanted to take me to the Royal Knight pack to formally introduce me as his successor. I won’t be taking over for at least a year, so we can actually put that off. I would just like to get her home, where she will be safe. I do not like this pack, he is not a kind Alpha”, I told Dawson and continued to inhale deeply so I wouldn’t miss her.

Dawson gives a low laugh and says “Safe” and then starts laughing again.

“Yes, safe. She will be safe at Ever Green with us. How could you possibly doubt that?” I said to him, and Dawson stopped laughing.

“Did you forget that Stephanie is full throttle to be your Luna, and you have not had her pump the brakes once? She will NOT be happy with you coming home with a mate. I hope your Luna is strong because even though Stephanie isn’t super strong, she will still make life at Ever Green hard on your mate. You know, I used to be so jealous of you getting to go out and party and have fun, and right now, I am thankful I am not in your shoes. This will not go well, and it is a matter of time before mom and dad become aware of it. I will act surprised when I replace out too. Do not drag me into your bullshit, as I always get the information second-hand, and I am not getting in the middle of this one. This is your train wreck, and I wish you well in it. Let me know if you need some help there though. I have heard bad things about what goes on there, especially after Alpha James lost his Luna. I felt really bad for him, but it happened when we were young. I wish you well with replaceing your mate bro, but leave me out of it when the s**t hits the fan”, Dawson told me, and then hung up on me.

Shit, he is right. This is going to go badly, and very quickly. I go the long way around the room, trying to be discrete in trying to scent my mate. I saw several she-wolves that were giving me the go-ahead to approach them, but I knew my mate was there. I wouldn’t disrespect her by her entering and me being surrounded by a bunch of girls.

“But you WOULD make out and have ox with one of your pack members, right Percy?” Aramis is in my mind, and he is pissed off.

“I am sorry, just help me replace her. I will make this right. I never had s*x with Stephanie. We did fool around a lot, but I kept myself for my mate. She should be happy about that. A lot of people don’t,” I linked back.

“Yes, thankfully, I will be here to gauge her reaction. I am going to go out on a limb for you and say that it won’t go well for you. Girls are jealous and territorial creatures. They do not like to share their man, especially if he is their mate. You had better NOT let that b***h hurt our mate. I will force a shift and take care of the problem myself if I need to. I already love my mate, she smells good to me, and I want her. You know where my loyalties lie, where do yours?” Aramis said, and I felt even worse because after Dawson mentioned Stephanie, I started to feel super guilty towards her, and not my mate, because she may feel like I led her on.

“You did not lead her on. She was leading you on because she wants to be the Luna”, Aramis said to me.

“It isn’t like that, she really likes me, and we have a really good time together with each other” I linked back.

“Yea, you do. Because she gets around, and you are new to all this, she is luring you with s*x. She doesn’t like you, not like you think she does. She likes the title. I can tell you how to test her. If you want me to, in case you have any doubts about her. That way you will KNOW for sure what her end game was” Aramis said, and with such confidence, I wondered how he could possibly know how to do that.

“Easy, because I have common sense. Don’t forget I feel your emotions, and since you only caught a little of her scent, you are not all in yet. When you do catch it, you will be the same as me and lost to our mate, no matter what happens. I already love her, and I haven’t even seen her yet, but I have my suspicions about who she is. It will all play out tonight if I am correct”, Aramis said with confidence.

I already know that he is right, and I am dreading telling Stephanie that we are done, but as soon as I replace my Luna, I will want no others. Stephanie is just going to have to understand. She is free to replace her true mate as well, but she never leaves the packlands to be able to replace him. I had told her before I left that I would be on the lookout for my mate while we were visiting other packs. I also encouraged her to do the same, but she just looked at me for a minute before bursting into tears and saying that she only wanted me. Dawson is right, I let her paint me right into a corner, and that was not ideal. Thank the Goddess that I refused to sleep with her, that would have been much worse. Hopefully, my mate will understand.

The meeting started and Alpha James droned on and on, and I was really getting tired of listening to how he was improving his pack, and what future things Timothy would be doing to move the pack forward. I was almost nodding off in boredom. That was until we heard a scream coming from the kitchen and Alpha James leaped off the stage and ran up the aisle to the kitchen. Heath and I were on his heels as we didn’t know what had happened and he may have needed some assistance. I see my friend Timothy lying on the floor in obvious pain, and Fallon trying to help him up. His dad and Fallon get him upright, but you can see that he is weak.

I smelled the strawberries and cream scent much stronger in this room and I looked around to see where my mate was. I trailed to the back door and into the night. I followed the scent and it took me to the pack hospital. She is no longer here and the scent fades. I headed back in and stood next to Heath again. I leaned over and told him that my mate was here but gone now. We stay on the perimeter of the kitchen and we both listen to what is going on. It doesn’t take long for us to be up to speed. It also doesn’t take long for us to replace out that my mate had been abused in this pack for several years and I am ready to tear Alpha James apart for doing that to her. She was a young teenager, and would never have been able to shift or fight off rogues. We asked a few questions, and we can tell that both Fallon and Alpha James have a lot to answer for, and I will take it to the Werewolf council myself to get her justice.

But now I have a problem. She ran away. I only know her first name and have no idea how to replace her. I am panicking, but my grandfather Heath is calm and collected. He holds a finger up to tell me to still and then points to a man sitting in the hallway outside the Alphas office. We watch as he gets called into the office and then, a few minutes later, we hear a fight break out. I followed down the hall as Heath knocked on the door, as the sounds of a fight continued.

He keeps knocking and, obviously, Alpha James is pissed when he answers the door, but calms down when he sees who he is dealing with. I already knew that he had unlocked the strap holding his gun in place in the holster. If needed, he could draw it out quickly. I knew things were getting serious now, and then I noticed that the man who had gone in there was unconscious and lying on a chair. I liked our warriors to come and assist as we were going to leave.

We had not unpacked yet, so we sent two warriors to go collect our bags and the other 8 to come to us, as I knew Alpha James was calling in reinforcements to us right now. Our men did not disappoint. I had stayed out of it until he said that she should have died with all that he had done to her, but she hadn’t yet. I knew if he got his hands on her again, he would kill her. I would not allow him to do that to her and I punched him in the face. I didn’t feel bad at all for doing it, but I knew we needed to leave quickly now. I grabbed the man in the chair, putting him over my shoulder in a fireman carry, and we headed for our two SUVs parked just outside.

I gently lowered him into a seat in the middle and buckled him in. One of the warriors got in the third row to give me a seat and we took off. We had only been gone for about 15 minutes when I got a call from Timothy.

“What were you thinking about hitting my dad, Percy? He is seriously thinking of going to war with Ever Green. I know you are a strong pack, but why would you risk innocent lives by assaulting my father? You also took the doctor from our pack hospital and, as of now, I am telling you to come back with him. He was unconscious when you took him, and we will be notifying the Werewolf Council of that as well.” Timothy yells into the phone. I answered it on speaker, and I saw my grandfather still looking ahead, but I knew he was listening.

“Your dad threatened my mate. I will not allow him to hurt her again. I know what he has done to her in the last few years, and he will never again touch what is mine. Your father actually knocked your doctor unconscious. We just saved him from your dad attacking him again, Timothy. You need to stop listening to your father as he is not a good Alpha, and evidently, a liar. I hope you learned a lot in school and will be able to lead your pack, because from what I have seen, and who your chosen Luna is, your pack will not stand for too much longer”, I told Timothy in a cool tone. He has pissed me off. We weren’t good friends, to begin with, anyway. I know he only invited us here so he could show me that he was getting a pack before me. Big deal, I beat him in everything at Alpha training.

“Did you just say that you found your mate? That my dad has been abusing for years, while you were here? Did I hear you right?” Timothy‘s voice sounded pissed off through the phone.

“Yes, the one you just rejected. She is my mate. I guess I am her second chance mate. I will accept her, and she will stay with me and bear my pups for me. I will be sure to invite you and Fallon to our Luna ceremony”, I told him, as I was pissed, and I wanted him to realize just how badly he had messed up.

I could tell that Timothy was about to lose his cool and did the best thing for both of us. I hung up on him and then turned my phone off. I don’t need to speak to him again until we are both calmer, and I have claimed my mate. He screwed up and will have a malicious woman ruling the pack with him that just wanted him because he was an Alpha. I felt bad for him and then realized that I was going to do the same thing, but my wolf stopped me. I needed to make better choices, I thought to myself, as I laid my head back onto my headrest.

Since we were so close, Heath had already called and spoken to the Beta for the Royal Knight pack to let them know that we were coming tonight, instead of tomorrow. It was closer than our pack was, and the doctor needed treatment for his arm. Beta Perkins was kind in allowing us to do that. I am exhausted and cannot wait to arrive. I need to speak to Alpha King Hunt about what my poor mate had gone through while she was in the B***d Claw pack. I am also hoping that he can help me replace her, as I would love to get to see her. I fell asleep thinking of what I saw of her briefly as she lay on the floor holding her cheek.

My eyes fly open, and a loud growl leaves my throat. I just realized that Timothy had hit her and knocked her down to the floor. Her hand had partially covered the red mark. It was the mark he had just put on her. I will pay him back for that as well. Fallon filmed the whole thing. I have this to say, if that video makes it to the light of day and anyone else sees it, I will take care of them, and whoever else shares it myself.
