Return Of The Prodigy
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 204

In the afternoon, Katie went to Rivers Bank. She signed the document and transferred the money to Austin's bank account.

When Austin saw the money in his bank account, he was so moved that he knelt in front of Katie with a thud. "Ms. Hartley, thank you so much. You have just saved my family!"

Katie sighed and said, "Mr. Turner, please get up. Don't worry about it. We have been working together for years. How could I leave you in the lurch? When the Camdens wanted to take down the company, you continued working with us, so we owe you." Austin wiped tears from his face before retrieving a document from his briefcase.

"Ms. Hartley, I have told my lawyer to draft a company transfer agreement. I have already signed it, so it's your turn."

Katie was stunned in place. She said in astonishment, "Mr. Turner, what are you doing?"

Austin sighed and said, "Ms. Hartley, you have done me a huge favor. I can't take your money for nothing, so I am going to give you the company. Don't worry. You have my assurance that just the cement mixing trucks alone are worth over 45 million. Here's the notarized paperwork."

Katie instantly waved her hand and rejected the offer. "Mr. Turner, I helped you because I consider you a friend. I'm not going to take your company."

Austin insisted. "I get it, but I have to do this if I'm going to take your money. Otherwise, I can't bring myself to do it. Considering the large sum involved, the only thing I can offer is my company."

Katie shook her head again and said, "Why don't we talk about it when things get better for you? I have faith that you can recover the money. I don't want to take your company."

Austin hesitated briefly before putting away the documents. He proceeded to place his bank card on the counter.

"Okay then. Since you're unwilling to accept my company, I'll transfer the money back to you. When they come for me again, I'll just let them take the cement mixing trucks." He gritted his teeth and added, "I just wish I didn't have to give up the trucks to such assholes."

Katie was taken aback. She frowned and said, "Mr. Turner, do you really have to?"

Austin sighed and said, "I mean it. This incident has made me come to terms with reality. They're far more powerful than me, so there's no point fighting them. Since the Camdens are out to ruin me, there's no stopping them. Ms. Hartley, if you agree to accept my company in return, you will be saving me. Even if you don't agree to take over the company, I doubt I can continue operating it for long. I know you don't have your own cement mixing trucks. If you take over the company, you won't have to worry about these things again."

Katie knew what he meant, but she could not take over the company. It felt as though she was kicking Austin when he was down, and she could not bring herself to do it.

Austin said firmly, "Ms. Hartley, if you don't take the company, I won't take your money. Have you decided yet?"

Katie sighed powerlessly and replied, "I don't mind signing this agreement, but you have to promise me this is all a temporary arrangement. When you are ready, I will hand it back to you. I know you make sense and Hartley Group does need its own cement mixing trucks, but this is not how I'm doing it!"

Austin contemplated briefly, nodded, and replied, "Fine. We'll do as you say. This is all just a temporary arrangement until things get back on track for me."

Katie nodded before she finally signed her name on the agreement and impressed her thumbprint on it.

Gavin Sanders, the branch manager of Rivers Bank, helped them with the paperwork. After everything was done, he laughed and said, "Ms. Hartley, Mr. Turner, I'm so moved by your gesture. It has been a long time since I've heard such a touching story in the business world."

Katie shook her head and said, "I want to be upright, so my business philosophy is the same. Sometimes, people just run into hard times. If I help them now, I trust that they will return the favor in the future. This way, we can help each other survive." Austin and Gavin nodded in unison.

"Ms. Hartley, now that everything is settled, I'm going over to Con-Tech to pay off my debt," said Austin.

Katie acknowledged gently.

The three of them left the bank a few minutes later.

Katie drove back to the hotel. She felt it was best to tell Adam about the incident earlier today.

Adam sighed inwardly. Katie was still too green. No-Katie was too kind! Leroy knew her weakness, which was why he dragged Austin into this and forced her to help.

Adam did not immediately tell Katie what he knew. The moment he told her about it, she would call Austin, and this would only serve to alert Leroy.

Moreover, he had promised to keep his hands out of her matters. If Katie found out he had made arrangements to put a tail on Leroy, she would feel sad even if she would not blame him for it.

"Adam, I think I need your help this time. Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before I run out of funding," Katie said as she smiled sadly.

Adam smiled warmly in return. He retrieved his bank card and said, "Things will be fine. Just take the card."

Katie felt so moved that she came over and kissed Adam on the cheek.

"Thank you! Thank you so much."

Right then, Annie walked out of the bathroom and witnessed the scene. She promptly raised her hands to cover her eyes. She could not resist parting two fingers to peep through the gaps secretly. "Mommy and Daddy sitting in the tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"

Katie instantly blushed. She was so embarrassed that she wanted to hide.

On Monday, the next day, it was a brand-new beginning for them.

Adam and Katie sent Annie to school as usual before going to the company.

After Katie was done doing some work around 10:00 a.m., she stretched her back and her phone suddenly rang.

Katie answered the phone, "Hello? Katie Hartley."

"Ms. Hartley, help! Someone from Con-Tech is here," Jeremy said, annoyed.

Katie went quiet. She frowned and said, "Haven't we paid them already? What are they trying to do?"

Jeremy said angrily, "They're here to take the concrete mixer trucks again. They said they didn't receive the money."

"That's impossible. I have already given Austin the money yesterday," a shocked Katie said furiously.

Jeremy was raging as he said, "I don't know either. Ms. Hartley, why don't you give Mr. Turner a call to replace out? I will try and stop them from leaving the site." "Okay, give me a minute!"

Katie hurriedly hung up the phone and called Austin.

"Sorry. The number you have called is not in service."

Why's he unreachable?

A look of shock swept across Katie's face. She called again in disbelief.

"Sorry. The number you have called is not in service."

Katie frowned, swiped down her phone book, and found the number for Austin's company.

Before long, someone answered the phone.

A woman answered the phone and said, 'Thank you for calling Cementology. How may I help?"

Katie said candidly, "I need to speak to Austin."

"Sorry. Mr. Turner isn't around. Can I take a message?"

Katie's hand trembled slightly as she held the phone.
