Return Of The Prodigy -
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 31
They all wondered, What's going on?
The onlookers acted as if they had seen a ghost. They stood rooted to the spot, unable to believe their eyes. Some of them even wondered if they were in a dream. But even after they pinched their cheeks, the scene before them did not change. "Is that Mr. Thatcher?" someone said after recovering from the shock.
The person kneeling on the ground was indeed Edgar Thatcher, the owner of the Goldsand Corp. The fact that someone of Edgar's status was kneeling before that woman in plain clothes was simply unbelievable. None of them could make sense of what was going
on.
Peter was no different. Stunned, he blinked again and again, until he was 100% sure that the person before his eyes was indeed Edgar Thatcher and not an impostor.
The phone in Edgar's pocket was still ringing.
Katie stood there dumbfounded, one hand covering her mouth.
That guy is Edgar Thatcher!
Peter finally returned to his senses and walked up to the kneeling figure. "Edgar, what are you doing? Get up quickly!"
"Get lost!" Edgar gritted his teeth and turned to look at Peter. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked like a wild beast ready to bite Peter if he were to get too close.
After all, it was Peter's fault that he had ended up in such a sorry state. If only he had signed that contract with Katie Hartley as they had agreed the day before, none of this would have happened.
If Peter had not sent the twins over as a gift, he would not have been caught red-handed by his wife.
If Peter had not told him to give Adam a lesson, he would not have lost his company.
In one way or the other, everything was related to Peter. However, now was not the same to get his revenge on Peter. The most important task at hand was to apologize to his wife so that she would not divorce him. If not, he would truly lose everything. As for simply going back on his word and not handing over the company, he did not dare to do it while Adam was around.
No matter how Edgar pleaded, Giselle remained unmoved.
Although the whole situation had left her distressed, Edgar was too far gone to be forgiven. Moreover, she was well aware he was begging her because he wanted to retain his company and assets. He did not care about her at all. If Adam had not helped her, she was sure he would have kept their child and all the property, effectively kicking her out with nothing under her name.
Despite spending decades together, Edgar did not think twice before putting an end to their marriage. There was no way she would take pity on him.
Giselle waved her hand and said respectfully, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Hartley. My name is Giselle Atkinson, and I'm the new owner of Goldsand Corp. When can we sign the contract and finalize the agreement?"
Katie quickly returned to her senses. "Oh, the contract? We can sign it right away. Please follow me."
Katie headed upstairs still in a daze, and Giselle followed behind her.
The exchange didn't escape Edgar's notice, he quickly got to his feet and pounced on the opportunity. "Ms. Hartley, forgive me! I'm sorry for offending you! I don't want any money for the construction materials... Yes, you can have them for free!" Katie remained unmoved as she led Giselle upstairs.
Edgar turned around, kneeled before Adam, and continued to plead, "Sir, I've realized my mistake! Please, forgive me. Give me another opportunity, just this once!" Feeling that his words were not enough, he even slapped himself.
The sound of slapping spread throughout the hall. Edgar did not hold back. He used so much force that he ruptured his lip and even lost a few teeth.
Adam stopped him and said with a frown, "You have only yourself to blame for what you did. There is no point in asking for my forgiveness."
He then entered the elevator and left.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Edgar refused to give up. He crawled toward the elevator and waited for it to return before heading upstairs himself.
Peter and the other employees were left speechless. Several thoughts flashed through their minds.
Oh my god, is that guy really the owner of the Goldsand Corp?
In just an hour, the CEO of a big corporation has been reduced to... to this?
Moreover, why did he kneel before Katie and Adam?
Is this all because of those two?
If not, how did the Goldsand Corp change owners in such a short time?
At the same time, they recalled Peter's satisfied expression and the way he had taunted Katie and Adam. He even went as far as to insult Giselle for how she was dressed. Now that the tide had turned, they wondered what Peter's reaction would be. They turned to look at him, just in time to see him cough up blood and collapse to the ground.
Peter lay on the floor, his eyes wide open. His brain refused to accept this outcome.
Katie led Giselle to the conference room.
Everything proceeded smoothly, and the deal was sealed pretty quickly. Giselle did not haggle over the price or other details. From beginning to end, her gaze was fixated on Adam.
If not for Adam's help, she could not even begin to imagine what would have happened to her.
After hearing Edgar's wails from the other side of the door, she was even happier that she had managed to meet Adam. She owed him a huge favor, and she would have a hard time repaying it.
Outside the conference room, Edgar was still kneeling. His voice had already become hoarse from all the screaming, and his eyes were bloodshot. Coupled with his unkempt hair and snot, he looked like a mentally ill person who belonged in a psychiatric ward. Two security guards approached him and said, "Mr. Thatcher, our CEO requires your presence."
Edgar did not even listen to them and continued with his plea, "Dear, I'm sorry... Ms. Hartley, I'm sorry... Sir, I'm sorry..."
The two security guards looked at each other and shook their heads. They crouched down and grabbed Edgar, directly dragging him to the CEO's office.
In the office, Peter had finished changing his bloodstained clothes. He had thrown his old suit aside and put on a white set.
"You two can leave."
After sending away the two security guards, Peter turned to look at the haggard and forlorn man before him. He wondered, How did Edgar end up like this?
Peter could not wrap his head around the situation. "Stop crying. You're a grown man, why are you acting like a little bitch? If you don't want to live anymore, just go kill yourself!"
With the last sentence, all hell broke loose.
Edgar got up and bellowed, "Yes, I might as well kill myself! My company is gone, and my wife and my child are gone as well. What's the point in living now?"
Peter was stunned. This guy is giving up without even putting up a fight... No, I can't let him go down so easily. I can still make use of him.
Peter laughed and said through gritted teeth, "Is this your final decision? After being humiliated like this, do you just want to give up and put an end to everything? Don't you want to take revenge?
"If you're not afraid of death, why would you be afraid of taking revenge? Think about it, who was it that reduced you to this state? Don't you resent them?
"Even if you want to die, you should bring your enemy down with you. If you have to die, you'd better make the lives of your enemies miserable first!"
Edgar's eyes lit up. He snarled, "You're right. If I have to die, I'd better make my enemy miserable..."
"Who was it? Who did this to you?" asked Peter.
"You did this to me! Everything is your fault! You're the one who told me not to sign that contract with Katie. Peter Hartley, everything is your fault... I'm taking you to hell with me!" Edgar pounced and put his hands around Peter's neck.
Peter looked at him in shock. What the hell is happening? Did this idiot take me for his enemy?
"You fucking..." Peter cursed and kicked Edgar away, putting some distance between them. He then lay on the ground and gasped for breath.
After a bout of coughing, Peter's new suit was also dyed red.
"You idiot," Peter kicked at Edgar again and growled, "there is nothing wrong with what I made you do. Think about it carefully, who took your company? Who took your wife and child?" Madness flashed through Edgar's eyes. "It was Adam Drake. It was him!"
Peter was taken aback. He asked again to make sure he had not misheard, "What did you say? It was Adam Drake?
"That makes no sense. How can it be him? There's no way he can take away your company. Did the shock turn you insane?"
However, Edgar was very certain. "It was him. He made a call, and then everyone stopped doing business with us. My assets are also frozen..."
"Impossible!" There was absolutely no way Peter would believe that a good-for-nothing like Adam had so much influence. It was more likely that Adam had called Robert Byron, and Robert Byron had helped him in secret.
Peter's expression hardened. "Edgar, I'll give you an opportunity. You haven't lost yet, and if you seize this opportunity, you might be able to make a comeback. As long as you follow my instructions, not only will you be able to take your revenge, but you'll also get Katie." Edgar was stunned. He raised his head and asked in puzzlement, "What do you mean?"
Just as Peter was about to speak, his phone rang.
"Mr. Hartley, you should come down quickly. A lot of guests have arrived," urged the receptionist.
Peter had no idea what was going on. "What guests? What are you talking about?"
"Mr. Mann from the Inox Group, Mr. Washington from the Watershed Group, Mr. Davidson from the Flyby Group..."
They were all important people.
Surprised, Peter hurried to ask, "Why are they here? Anyway, wait a moment. I'll head downstairs." Then he turned to Edgar and said, "Wait here for me."
Peter left Edgar in the office and headed downstairs.
As he got downstairs, Peter saw the various CEOs standing in front of the elevator, ready to head upstairs.
"Mr. Mann, Mr. Washington, Mr. Davidson... What brings you here?"
"Please make way. We're here to sign a contract with Ms. Hartley." "What? You... Why would you do that? This is..."
The CEOS snorted and moved past Peter, entering the elevator.
Peter was left standing there, still in a daze. Two seconds later, he coughed up blood again and fell to the ground.
Peter, sprawled on the ground, gazing woozily at the ceiling.
"Help, Mr. Hartley is coughing up blood again!"
