Return Of The Prodigy
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 65

"You've said hi, so you can go now," urged Gemma.

"Riya, stop playing with your phone and look here," Amanda said all of a sudden. "When you go looking for a boyfriend, don't end up with someone like him. He looks fine on the outside, but his brain has problems." "Mom, what are you talking about? Of course, I wouldn't look for someone like him. I'm not blind."

"It was just a reminder. I know that my Riya is smart, not like Katie who's hell-bent on spending her life with a guy with mental issues.

"Like I said before, Gemma, why don't you ask Katie to divorce him? Will you simply stand by and watch as your daughter wastes her best years?"

Gemma flushed as she said with a nod, "They're going to divorce soon."

"That's for the best. The faster this matter is dealt with, the better. Ah, what was your name again? Do you have a job?" asked Amanda.

Adam was used to people treating him like this since he came back, so he did not get angry. Moreover, he was not here to argue with this woman and her daughter.

"I came back two days ago, so I haven't found a job yet."

"Ah, you don't have a job? So are you living off of your wife? I mean, even if you have mental issues and no education, you should be able to move bricks at the construction site just fine, right? You're a grown man, how can you be so lazy?" "Auntie, you have a point," Adam said with a smile, "I'll start looking for a job soon."

Amanda sneered, "Youngsters must be dependable and down-to-earth. Look at my daughter, despite having graduated from a prestigious university, she isn't arrogant in the least. She's even diligently looking for a job."

At this point, Riya suddenly spoke. "Are you done with this conversation? I have an appointment with a friend, so finish quickly.

"Ah, yes. Tell Katie to replace me a job that gives me some freedom. I don't want to wake up early every day to clock in, and I want to be able to leave when I feel like leaving. How am I supposed to look for a boyfriend otherwise?"

Amanda immediately changed her tune. "Gemma, call Katie quickly. Your daughter is really too impolite. I am here to visit her, and she didn't even come to meet me in person."

"Katie is busy at work." Gemma said awkwardly, "After all, she's managing the whole project by hersel-"

"What is more important, her aunt or her work? Tell her to prepare a nice job for my daughter so as to avoid wasting Riya's time," interjected Amanda.

Gemma forced a smile. "Amanda, I can assure you that Katie will give your daughter a job, but can you tone down your requirements a little? I know that Riya graduated from a prestigious university, but Katie might not be able to give her a job with a six-figure salary."

"Gemma, what do you mean?" Amanda said unhappily, "Are you saying that you don't want to give Riya a job? Katie is managing a huge project worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but a six-figure salary is apparently too much?

"The reason I asked Riya to help you is that we're relatives. Do you know how many companies begged her to work for them? Yet, she refused them all."

Gemma was rendered speechless by her garrulous sister; she turned to look at Trey. However, the man in question had no idea what was happening and naturally, did not know how to deal with the situation at hand.

By now, Adam had reached the end of his patience. He said, "Auntie, since Riya is so good, she should accept the offers she received from those companies. Jobs that offer a six-figure salary aren't easy to replace, so if you have companies offering you this kind of job, you should take it. We don't want to hinder Riya's growth just because we're her relatives."

Gemma's eyes lit up, and she added, "Yes, we don't want to hold Riya back."

Her opinion of Adam improved ever so slightly. This madman can be quick-witted at times!

Amanda's expression changed, and she said sternly, "You're just a madman who lives off of his wife. What qualifications do you have to butt into this conversation? Who do you think you are? I'm asking Katie to prepare a job for Riya, why are you running your mouth instead?"

Adam's smile gradually disappeared. "I'm allowed to make decisions on Katie's behalf. If you want a job, you can have it. However, you'll have to follow the company's rules. if not, what will the other employees think of Katie? How will she be able to retain their respect? Also, which prestigious university did you graduate from?"

"Wellington University," Riya said with a frown.

"And here I was wondering which prestigious university it might be," Adam sneered. "as it turns out, it's a rather ordinary one."

"I'm still better than someone like you who didn't even go to university!" Riya shouted out of embarrassment.

Adam snorted. "Hmph, at least I'm not as arrogant as you are. You've just graduated, and you want a job with a six-figure salary. What kind of experience and qualifications do you have to demand such a job?

"And let's not even talk about your attitude. You don't want to put in any effort, yet you expect to be paid a six-figure salary. What gives you so much confidence? What gives you the gall to come here and make these demands?"

Adam's barrage of questions left Riya speechless.

Adam had been greatly irritated by the conversation earlier. In his entire life, he had never come across someone this shameless. He did not mind Katie giving her relatives some benefits, but people like Riya were bad news. If she started working at Hartley Group, Riya would only bring Katie trouble. This mother-and-daughter duo had way too many demands, and they did not bother considering Katie's circumstances or feelings.

Riya's face fell, and she stared at Adam with her mouth agape. She got up from the sofa and roared, "A madman like you who lives off of his wife dares to talk about qualifications with me?"

"Even if I am someone who lives off of his wife, I can bring out more money than you've seen in your life!" Adam sneered.

"Haha, are you trying to brag now? Everyone knows that you're a live-in son-in-law. What's the point of lying?" She then turned to Gemma and scoffed, "It seems clear to me that you have no intention of helping us. Mom, let's leave. We shouldn't have any dealings with this lot hereafter!"

"Ptui!" Amanda spat on the ground and hissed, "You can keep your filthy money. Are you trying to look down on us? You're just a useless dog raised by the Hartleys. You can't beat my daughter in any field! Katie sure is foolish and short-sighted to have decided to spend the rest of her days with you. Riya, let's go!"

"Amanda, don't leave! This wasn't what I meant. Please listen to me..." Gemma chased after them.

"I don't care. I don't have such ungrateful relatives!"

Bang!

Amanda slammed the door behind her. "Amanda!"

Gemma followed them outside but seeing that she could no longer catch up to them, she returned inside. She then glared at Adam and said, "Who told you to say those things? Why did you decide to suddenly run your mouth? That was my sister, and I won't forgive you if she decides to break off further contact with me!"

"Mom, people like her are better-"

"Shut up and get out of here! I can't bear to look at you for another second," yelled Gemma.

Adam sighed and said, "Mom, Dad, do take care." He then left the house and headed downstairs.

He was about to call a taxi when he noticed Amanda and Riya talking with somebody in a Mercedes. He frowned, but just as he was about to take a better look, his phone rang.

"Drake the Dragon, there is an important matter that requires your attention. Paul Booker was injured last night," said Black Dragon.

Adam's expression darkened. "Who was it?"

"We don't know much about the identity of the other party, but they said they would come looking for Paul again today."

"I see, then I shall meet with them personally this evening."

In the blink of an eye, it was sundown.

Adam had dinner with his wife and daughter before arriving at Tarot Club.

Tarot Club was the place where Paul's headquarters was located.

Despite everything, Adam approved of Paul's methods.

Paul had carefully managed Lisle's underworld in the past few years. He had followed the Black Snake Brigade's rulebook to the letter and forbidden drugs and gambling, saving their organization a lot of trouble.

Now that someone had decided to encroach upon Paul's territory and break these rules, Adam would not stand by and watch.

As he entered the club, the bustling nightlife of the city emerged before his eyes in all its glory. He witnessed the deafening sound of the music, the colorful lights on the ceiling, the handsome men and beautiful women grooving on the dance floor, and the wildness of youth.

Yet, Adam was untouched by it all as he moved past the crowd and headed to an elevator in the back. At this time, he noticed a man quietly take out some blue powder and mix it into a drink out of the corner of his eye.

He frowned and prepared to stop the man. What the man was doing was illegal, and now that Adam had witnessed it, he could not turn a blind eye.

But before he could take action, he heard someone yelling at him, "Why are you here?"

Adam turned around to see Riya and two other girls come out of the bathroom. He was shocked as he had not expected to meet Riya here.

After all, Paul Booker's Tarot Club was one of the finest clubs in the city, and a fresh graduate like Riya should not be able to afford to visit such an expensive place.
