Chapter 1051 Love Is Done

Manuel was driving, while Besse and Susan were sitting in the back seat.

Susan kept chattering along the way, curious about what Besse had dropped.

"Besse, what did you drop?"

Besse did not answer her question though she kept asking, because nothing had been left behind. She just wanted to go and had a look.

Manuel was getting a little tired of Susan's questions.

"Susan, please speak less and don't disturb the baby, it's asleep."

"Manuel, are you saying that I'm annoying?" Susan's attention was instantly diverted.

Besse couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. It was hard for her when Susan was being persistent. She looked into the rear-view mirror and said thank you to Manuel, who smiled in reply. And then, all the way, Susan kept bombarding Besse without stopping.

Finally, they arrived at the villa.

Susan was about to follow Besse to help her when Manuel stopped her and said, "Don't you want some ice cream? I have some stored in the fridge."

"When did you put it in? Manuel, you sneaked and hid my ice cream, huh?" Susan said angrily.

"If I don't, are you planning on eating it all in one breath?"

"However, during today's prenatal check-up, the doctor said that all of your data is very good. I decided to reward you with an ice cream. Keep up the good work next time!" "Do you think I'm a child?"

"Yes, like my daughter." Manuel indulged in a smile.

Susan felt a bit embarrassed at his sweet words but she was very pleased to hear that. As they talked, Besse had already hobbled up the stairs alone with her cane. She didn't return to the bedroom she stayed in before. Instead, she went to the kid's room.

She saw the familiar decoration, which was the same as when she first saw it. She walked up to the activity table, moved it aside, and saw two lines of words on the wall.

One line was written by Salem, and the other was what she wrote in Hannah's name at that time.

She crossed out the words that she had written with a pen and wrote something instead.

The rims of her eyes turned red. She thought, when Salem missed his mother, maybe he would see it.

Besse sat in the room for a while. She moved the activity chair over again, blocking the words written down on the wall. Then, she stood up and got ready to leave.

At the moment of departure, she turned around and saw the photo on the bedside table, which was taken when Salem was younger. In the picture, the boy was sitting on the floor, not knowing how to crawl. He was looking into the camera with great confusion on his face. He looked so adorable.

Besse couldn't help but go over to pick up the photo. She looked at it for a long time, unwilling to put it down. Just as she finally did, the door suddenly opened.

Besse's eyes flickered but she held back her tears.

"I just came to tell you that there's an album on the bedside table." Said Manuel.

Besse looked at him and he smiled slightly.

"I came up to get Susan a jacket in case she gets cold."

Besse nodded slightly.

Manuel was always considerate of others and would never let anyone feel left out.

The door was closed. Besse opened the bedside table, where she found a thick album inside with the words, "Salem's Growth Album", written on the front page.

She nervously opened it up and saw photos of the boy from when he was born until now at five years old, including pictures from his fifth birthday party, which had only happened recently. Did Oscar make this growth album?

After finishing looking through it all, Besse closed the book with tears streaming down her face. She wiped them away before leaving but then reopened the book one last time before taking out a photo from inside.

As she left the room for good this time, she turned around imagining what it would be like if Salem occasionally visited this room.

When Besse returned to the living room, she was calm as normal again.

Susan is satisfied after eating ice cream.

"What if I have a daughter?" asked Susan, with a serious face.

"Of course, we'll take good care of her." He was used to Susan asking strange questions by now so he wasn't surprised by this one either.

"But what if she steals your love away from me?" Susan felt threatened just thinking about how much attention Manuel might give their daughter someday.

As soon as that image popped into her head though-of Manuel being tenderly attentive while caring for their little girl-Susan was somewhat agitated.

"It's not gonna happen," Manuel replied, "Daughters will eventually marry someone else. My wife is the one who truly belongs to me."

"Really?" Susan exclaimed with delight.

She didn't expect it, but Manuel was sensible in this respect.

"Uh-huh." Manuel nodded firmly.

Susan felt relieved in an instant. She always felt like Manuel was spoiling her too much, and it was getting to her head.

Only when she saw Besse in the living room did she remember that she was accompanying Besse to replace her thing today, instead of dating Manuel.

She quickly got up and walked towards Besse, eagerly asking, "Did you replace it?"

Besse shook her head. "No. Perhaps I remembered it wrong. It should be in my suitcase."

"Do you want me to help you look again?" Susan said enthusiastically.

"No need." Besse smiled. "Let's go."

"Do you not need it? It must be something important, right?! Or you wouldn't have gone through all this trouble to come here in person."

"It's not that important," Besse evaded, "Let's go back to the hospital. I'm afraid Doyle won't be able to replace me and will get angry again." "You are so kind to Doyle," Susan suddenly exclaimed.

Besse pursed her lips.

Because he was better than her.

"Oscar may not have another chance." Susan blurted out. There was always some lingering dissatisfaction in her heart.

Oscar almost died for Besse. However, Besse was still indifferent towards him.

Besse did not respond to Susan. She leaned on her cane and walked out first. Susan let out a heavy sigh again.

Was Oscar deserving of this?

It seemed that in this lifetime, he would never obtain the love he desired.
