Saving His Feral Mate -
Chapter 13: My mate’s in trouble
Alpha Knox POV
I spent the day in my office, avoiding everyone. All I could think about was returning to my mate. I hate how I can’t have a conversation with her. I’m not sure if she’s choosing to stay in her wolf form, or if she actually can’t shift. Either way, I can’t bring myself to give up on her. She was made for me by the moon goddess, I’ve been waiting so long to replace her and I’m not willing to give up, not without a fight.
I was brought out of my thoughts, when there was a knock at the door.
“Come in” I said.
The door opened and I let out a relieved sigh, when I realized it was only my mother. The she-wolves staying with us, have been relentless trying to get me alone today. I was worried it might of been one of them.
“Why have you been hiding in here all day?” My mother barked out, with a disapproving frown. She walked into my office and took a seat across from me.
“I have work to do, mother.” I replied, with an irritated tone, while looking down at the paperwork that sat in front of me.
“You’ve been avoiding Sabrina, Tanya and Melanie, why? You promised to give them a chance.” My mother asked angrily.
I didn’t want to tell anyone about my mate, not yet, but I knew my mother wouldn’t leave me alone unless I did. I let out a frustrated sigh, before speaking.
“I found my mate.” I said and my mother gasped in both shock and excitement.
“Oh my goddess! Who is she? Why isn’t she here? When can I meet her?” She blurted out, question after question.
“Calm down, it’s complicated.” I replied and she looked at me curiously, but stayed quiet so that I could continue.
“She’s a rogue and potentially feral.” I huffed out and my mother’s jaw dropped.
“What do you mean, feral?” She asked and I could hear the concern in her tone.
“I don’t think she has a human side, but I’m not sure. I don’t know anything about her.” I explained and my mother gasped in shocked, once again.
“You know, your farther will want you to reject her, right? It’s one thing that she’s a rogue, but feral? She could never be a Luna.” My mother said and I could hear the concern in her voice. The last sentence was practically a whisper. She was staring down at the floor and I could see she was lost in thought.
“Father is no longer the Alpha, I am. I have no intentions of EVER rejecting her.” I growled out angrily, making my mother flinch.
“I’m sorry son, it’s just a bit of a shock. What are you going to do?” My mother asked, in a sympathetic tone and I knew her apology was sincere.
My mother is nothing like my father, she believes a mate is a blessing. My father on the other hand, only thinks it’s a blessing if your mate comes from a high ranking and respectable family. Basically, someone who would benefit the pack.
“I’m going to keep visiting her, until she warms up to me. When she does, I’ll bring her back here.” I replied, but I wasn’t feeling very confident with my own plan.
Tonight when I see my mate, I need to make progress. Maybe I can try and get close enough, so that I can touch her.
“I’ll send the other she-wolves home and I won’t tell your father, not yet at least. But you need to bring your mate here as soon as possible. You can’t be venturing out into rogue territory everyday, people are starting to talk and as the Alpha, you need to be here for your pack.” My mother said, in a stern voice.
I felt relieved that she was going to send the she-wolves home and also that she wasn’t going to tell my father about my mate. I really don’t want him pestering me about everything, not until I replace out more about her. Right now, I just need to focus on convincing my mate to come back here with me, that’s going to be the tough part. My mother’s right, pack members have been gossiping, wondering why I keep leaving the territory everyday. I also know that I have responsibilities here that I’ve been neglecting ever since replaceing my mate.
“Thank you, mother. I’m working on it.” I replied, while nodding my head.
“Don’t forget, dinner tomorrow night to celebrate your brother and Sheryl’s pregnancy.” My mother added, as she stood up and moved towards the door.
“Ya, I’ll be there.” I grumbled out. I had completely forgotten about that dinner. s**t, sitting at a dinner table with my father and brother, is not my idea of a good time.
My mother left the office and I went back to the endless pile of paperwork that needed my attention. It was hard to focus after the conversation I had with my mother. How on earth am I going to convince my mate, that the safely place for her is here with me?
I got up from my desk and made my way to the door. When I opened it, I found Jag and Jo standing on the other side, Jag had his first up like he was about to knock.
“Hey boss, you ready to go?” Jo asked, in a chipper voice.
“Go where?” I replied confused.
“To meet your mate.” Jo said, while shrugging his shoulders.
“I’m going alone. She’ll never warm up to me with you two dumbass’s hanging around.” I said, while walking past them and towards the front doors of the pack house.
“We’re coming. You can’t be out there alone, it’s too dangerous.” Jag spoke up this time and I was a bit surprised with his stern tone. I knew it was only because he was worried about me, but I really didn’t want them spooking off my mate.
“Fine, but keep your distance from her. Better yet, stay out of sight completely when we get there.” I spat out, as I left the pack house and headed for the forest. Jag and Jo were hot on my heals.
We stripped out of our clothes and put them in a bag, before shifting into our wolves. We took off running towards the cabin. I was getting excited to see my mate again. It felt like I was going on a date, especially since she actually knew I was coming this time.
We reached the cabin in no time, I scanned the outside areas for my mate, but she wasn’t there yet. I saw Betty and Tom sitting on the porch together and I walked towards them.
‘We’ll hangout over here by the tree line, howler if you need us.’ Jag said through the mind-link.
‘Will do.’ I replied.
“Oh great, it’s you again. Did you bring Scar another self portrait?” Betty mocked.
“Ha…ha…Funny. Have you seen her yet today.” I asked.
“No, she wasn’t here when we woke up this morning, you probably scared her off.” Betty replied, while glaring at me. I was starting to get use to her cold demeanour and it really didn’t bother me anymore.
“Well, I guess I’ll just take a seat here with you guys and wait. Do you have any tea?” I asked casually, while sitting on the bottom step.
I knew she wasn’t going to make me tea, but it was fun to push her buttons a little. I noticed today, that her words didn’t hold as much hatred towards me. I could almost hear a bit of playfulness when she spoke, maybe she’s finally warming up to me.
Tom was trying to hold back his laughter, when his partner started cursing me under her breath.
An hour went by and my mate had still not arrived. I started to wonder if she was going to stand me up. I did tell her I would be back at the same time today, is that why she’s not here? Does she not want to see me?
My wolf started acting anxious in my head and kept grumbling that something wasn’t right, but when I asked what the problem was, he didn’t have an answer.
“I guess she stood you up, lover boy.” Betty teased, causing me to growl. I wasn’t in a playful mood anymore, I was starting to believe her words were true.
All of a sudden, I felt a pain in my shoulder, like a knife sliced through it and I felt a surge of intense rage rush through me. I grabbed my shoulder and hissed at the pain.
Betty and Tom stood up at the same time and looked at me with concern.
“What is it?” Betty asked, with a frown.
“I’m not sure, I just felt like someone stabbed me in the shoulder.” I replied, as I examined my skin for any marks.
“It might have something to do with Scar. How’s your wolf acting?” This time Tom spoke. He had the same concern frown on his face. Betty gasp and covered her mouth, when she heard his words and seemed to understand what he was getting at.
“He’s anxious, but doesn’t understand why.” I replied, while feeling both concerned and confused.
“It’s the bond, you’re feeling her pain. She’s in trouble, go!” Tom shouted, causing my heart to plummet in my chest.
The realizing of his words hit me like a freight train, my mate was in trouble. I quickly shifted into my wolf and took off at a full sprint in the woods. I didn’t know exactly where I was going, but I let my wolf take over. He seemed to sense her and was confident in the direction we were heading.
‘Where are you going?’ Jag asked through the mind-link.
‘My mate’s in trouble.’ I replied and ended the link. I needed to focus on replaceing her.
I ran for what felt like hours, but in reality was probably only 15 minutes, when all of a sudden, I picked up her faint scent. The closer I got, the stronger I could smell it. I could also pick up the scent of rogues, another pack and b***d. What the hell is going on? If anyone hurt my mate, I’ll kill them.
I heard a shuffling noise behind me and turned my head to see Jag and Jo running towards me, also in their wolf form.
‘I smell rogues, another pack and b***d.” Jag reported through the mind-link.
‘Ya, I can smell my mate, she’s near here.’ I replied, while continuing to move forward.
I could see a clearing up ahead and in the middle, there was a naked women standing over something on the ground. I couldn’t make out what it was, but my mates scent got stronger the closer I got.
The woman was definitely a rogue, she was only wearing a pair of cowboy boots and a belt, with a machete holster to it. She looked like she had bathed in b***d.
The woman stiffened when she smelt the air and slowly turned towards us, while drawing her machete from her belt. She held it in front of her defensively and stood in between us and whatever she had been look at on the ground. I shifted into my human form, Jag and Jo did the same.
We got closer to her, that’s when I noticed the ground was also covered in b***d and there were five bodies scattered around her, they all appeared to be dead.
What made my b***d run cold, was when I noticed the thing on the ground that she was guarding. It wasn’t actually a thing, but rather a woman, a gorgeous red headed woman.
“Mate” my wolf, Gunner, growled out.
My eyes grew wide in shock, when I realized the woman laying unconscious on the ground, was actually my mate.
I ran towards her as fear coursed through me, but stopped abruptly when the rogue held out her machete to my throat.
