Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 15: Take good care of her

Alpha Knox POV

I laid my mate down on the couch, as Betty rushed to her side. She quickly opens the first aid kit and tended to her injury.

“She was drugged with wolfbane, I can smell it.” Betty said in a low voice, as she rubbed a dampened cloth over my mates shoulder wound.

“That explains why she’s in her human form.” Max mumbled to herself.

Wolfbane is a drug used to suppress your wolf. When it’s in your system, you can’t shift or communicate with your wolf until the drug wears off. If administered while in wolf form, it will cause you to force shift into your human. I wonder what that mean for my mate, if she can’t access her human side when will she wake up?

“She’ll likely be unconscious for days, basically until the drug wears off and her wolf comes back.” Betty explained, as if she could hear the questions I had in my head.

“Is the Alpha responsible, dead?” Tom asked and I could see him trying to reign in his anger.

“No, he ran away like a coward when Parker and Preston showed up. They chased after him and I’m not sure what happened after that. It was weird, the Alpha looked like he had seen a ghost when he saw the twins, like he recognized them or something. I’ll have to asked them what that was about.” Max replied, while looking deep in thought.

Those names sound familiar, but I can’t quite put my finger on where I recognize them from. I’ll have to ask my mother, maybe she’ll know.

“Thank goddess they showed up when they did. Who knows what would of happened to You two if they hadn’t.” Betty said, while holding her hand over her heart. I could see the concern in her eyes.

I was frustrated that I wasn’t the one to save my mate. I should of gotten there faster, I’m suppose to be her protector and I failed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the twins. Hopefully I get to meet them one day, so I can personally thank them.

Betty finished cleaning and dressing my mates wound, while Tom grabbed the blanket I had brought for her and draped it over her body. I couldn’t help but stare at her perfect face, as she laid there unconscious. She looked so innocent and beautiful, who in their right mind could hurt her? The thought alone made my b***d boil. Whoever did this is going to pay.

“I’ve done everything I can for her. She needs to rest, let’s go outside.” Betty announced, as she herded everyone out of the cabin.

I was reluctant at first, I didn’t want to leave my mates side, but eventually followed them out.

“Geez… Whats with the self portrait.” Max snorted in amusement, while pointing to the picture I brought for my mate. It was still sitting on the porch where I had left it. I signed out in frustration, thinking not this again.

“The Alpha over there, thought Scar would like to wake up every morning and look at his ugly face.” Betty replied with a mocking smirk, while nodding her head towards me.

“Smooth move Romeo.” Max chuckled.

“I’m taking my mate with me back to my territory.” I announced, intentionally changing her subject. Their amused demeanours quickly turned serious.

“Like hell you are!” Betty scoffed.

“Nope, over my dead body.” Max added, popping the P.

“What if that Alpha comes back for her? You even told me that this isn’t the first time she’s been attacked. She’ll be safer with me.” I added, feeling frustrated that these two still didn’t trust me.

“We will protect her, she’s part of our family.” Max replied, in a calm but confident voice.

“You Alpha’s are all the same. You come here and think you can just take what you wa …” Betty started to rant, but was cut off by Tom.

“Enough! He’s not Alpha Alec and you know it.” Tom growled, causing a whimper to leave Betty’s lips. I was shocked by his outburst, he’s always been extremely quiet, letting Betty do most of the talking.

Tears fell from Betty’s eyes, at the mention of Alpha Alec. I knew right away that he was the one responsible for her deep hatred towards Alpha’s.

“I’m nothing like that a*****e. He’s a monster and doesn’t deserve the Alpha title.” I spat out, hating the fact that she thought I was anything like him. I knew Alpha Alec all too well. He’s a cruel and heartless man and his pack has always been an enemy of ours.

Betty’s eyes widened at my outburst, but she quickly recovered and put up her usual cold front.

“He’s right you know, she’s not safe here. That Alpha, he’s only going to keep coming back for her.” Tom added, with a heavy sigh.

“Even if you take her, she’ll never stay with you.” Max added, while shaking her head.

“That’s why you’re going to come with us.” I replied, causing her to buckle over in laughter.

“Now, why would I do that?” She asked, still laughing.

“Because you care about your friend and you don’t trust me. Plus if you’re there when she wakes up, she might not be so inclined to run away.” I replied and her head tilted to the side, as she thought over my words. She studied me carefully, looking for any signs of deceit. She wasn’t going to replace any, my intentions are good and I wish she could see that.

I glanced over at Jo, who was beaming with excitement. I could see how badly he wanted his mate, that’s why I made the suggestion. If Max comes with us, it would benefit us both. He can try and win her over and at the same time, she’ll be a familiar face for my mate when she wakes up.

“Fine, I’ll come for a few days, only because I don’t trust you and I want Red to be safe. I don’t know how you won over Tom, but I won’t be as easy.” Max said, while putting her hands on her h**s and challenging me with her eyes.

“Thank you and I already know you won’t be.” I replied with a nod.

I was relieve that she agreed to come with us and grateful for Tom. If it wasn’t for him speaking up, there’s no way Betty and Max would let me take my mate.

“Tom, Betty, you guys are also welcome to come. You’re like family to my mate and therefor mine as well.” I said, while glancing between Betty and Tom. Betty’s face softened slight and Tom nodded.

“Thank you Alpha, but this is our home, we’re happy being alone out here.” Tom replied.

“The offer is there if you change your mind.” I added and he nodded his head.

“I swear to the moon goddess, if you hurt either of my girls, I’ll hunt you down and slaughter you myself.” Betty threatened, while point her index finger at my chest.

“I don’t doubt it, Betty.” I replied with a light chuckle. I can’t help but appreciate how feisty she can be.

I went inside the cabin and scooped up my mate bridal style. I felt sparks run up my arms at the contact and it felt incredible, I never want to put her down.

When I got outside, I saw Jo standing by Max. She was washing her machete blade with a cloth and ignored him. He couldn’t take his eyes off her, it probably didn’t help that she was complete naked. The sweatpants he was wearing, did a poor job at hiding his e******n.

“So, what do you do for fun around here?” He asked, sounding like a totally dumbass. I internally cringed at his poor attempt to break the ice.

“Kill” She replied dryly and continued to clean her blade. Jo’s eyes widened, as he took a step back. I internally chuckled, the poor guy is gonna have his hands full with that one.

“Let’s head home.” I announced, drawing everyone’s attention towards me.

Tom was holding Betty in his arms, as she cried into his shoulder. She didn’t want me to take Scar, but at the same time, she wasn’t trying to stop me anymore.

“Take good care of her, Alpha. I’m trusting you.” Tom said, while giving me a pointed look.

“You have my word, Tom.” I replied, with a nod.

“Don’t worry B, I’ll slice him up into bite size pieces if he hurts our Red.” Max said, while wrapping her arms around Betty in a hug.

“I know you will.” Betty chuckled.

Once we were done saying our goodbyes, we left the cabin and started to walk home.

“Where are we going?” Max asked curiously.

“The Volcano Pack.” I replied and glanced over at her. She didn’t show any emotions, just simply nodded her head.

“How long have you been a rogue?” Jag asked curiously.

“Around three years.” She replied, in a casually tone. She’s definitely a hard one to read, she’s good a masking her emotions. I’m curious to know what her story is.

“What pack did you belong to?” Jo mustered up the courage to ask.

“Aren’t you guys quite the curious bunch. I think that’s enough questions for today.” She replied and Jo didn’t push her any further. I could see the disappointment on his face, he just wants to know more about his mate. It’s going to take time before she warms up to him, he needs to be patient with her, like I need to be with Scar.

We walked the rest of the way in silence and reach the territory at 3:00am. We came across a few warriors on patrol, who had curious looks on their faces, but didn’t dare question me. I knew they were probably wondering who the woman in my arms was, but I ignored them and kept walking.

Once we reached the pack house, I mind-linked Dr. Desmond to meet me in the spare room. I wanted him to look over my mate and make sure we didn’t miss anything.

I was tempted to bring Scar into my room, but I knew she wasn’t ready for that, so put her in the spare room next to mine. Max insisted that she stay in the same room with Scar. I really didn’t want her there, but knew it was a losing battle so I didn’t argue.

“Can I get you anything? Do you want one of my shirts to sleep in?” Jo asked eagerly, while looking at Max with hopeful eyes.

“Why would I want your shirt?” She replied, sounding confused.

“I’m your mat…” Jo started, but stopped when Max sent him a threatening glare.

“I mean, I just thought you might want something to sleep in.” He said nervously.

“I’m fine. I prefer to sleep in my birthday suit.” She replied, while motioned to her naked body.

“Well boss, on that note I’m going to bed. Link me if you need anything.” Jag said, while shaking his head in disbelief. Max is definitely eccentric and I can see that Jag isn’t sure how to feel about her yet.

“Thanks, I’ll see you tomorrow.” I replied, before he left the room.

The doctor came to check on Scar and I could see the curiosity in his eyes, while he examined her. She smells like a rogue and he’s probably wondering why I brought her here. I let out a frustrated sigh, now that a few people have seen her, it won’t be long before my father replaces out and gets on my case. I’m not looking forward to that.

“Well Alpha, other than the shoulder wound, she looks fine. I took a b***d sample so I can replace out how much wolfbane is in her system. I’ll have the results for you tomorrow. Other than that, there’s nothing else I can do for her, she just needs to sleep it off.” The doctor reported, while he packed up his bag.

“Thanks for coming, doctor.” I said, as he nodded and left the room.

“Well boys, it’s been a hell of a night. I think Red and I are gonna get some sleep, if you don’t mind closing the door on your way out.” Max said, as she laid down on the bed next to my mate. She was still wearing her boots and belt. Goddess that woman is odd, I thought to myself.

Jo looked disappointed to be shooed out, but he knew better than to argue with her.

“My room’s right next door, if you need anything just knock. Please don’t leave this floor without letting me know. I need to let my pack know you’re staying here, before you can wander on your own.” I instructed.

“Yes Sir.” She mocked, with a salute.

Jo and I reluctantly left the room. I’m glad that I have my mate here with me now, but it’s going to be tough, I have a feeling Max is going to be like a guard dog and won’t let me anywhere near her.
