Selling Myself To The Alpha -
Chapter 114
Adele
POV
I am staring at myself in the mirror once I am alone in my room. Liana has sent an army of women to paint and polish every inch of me. And I am glad she did - those ladies knew their business.
The black, silk pants I am wearing are so wide, it looks like a dress and the beaded halter neck corset fits perfectly. The ladies wanted to updo my hair in some complicated style with curls, but I refused. I am more than satisfied with my French braid. The bonus is not wearing heels. The pants are only inches from the floor and cover my feet completely. Liana really thought of me when she put this together.
I must admit - I am going to miss the hell out of Liana.
What started as a job turned into a friendship. I can talk to her about everything and the second I get a moment alone with her, I will seek advice on what to do about Luther.
I never dreamed of becoming an alpha. My situation is unheard of. But it came to me, and I grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Not for a second did it occur to me that Luther might not want the same.
I wish he said something sooner. Then I would have declined the alpha position. But he only sprung it onto me last night. How the hell am I supposed to get out of this in less than twenty-four hours without embarrassing or disappointing Axel and Liana?
And that is something I would hate to do. Axel and Liana have done so much for me. I never would have been here if it were not for them. I want to prove to them that I am worthy of their trust.
"Oh, wow," Liana's voice pulls me away from my thoughts as she walks through the door. "You look stunning."
"Thanks," I feel slightly embarrassed. I am not used to compliments about my looks. "I didn't hear you come in."
"I did knock," Liana smiles. "But it's obvious you re in another dimension. Are you having second thoughts about doing this without a Beta?"
"No," I shake my head. "I strongly feel it's the right thing to do to pick a Beta from Moonstone, and I can't do that if 1 don't know the people."
"The offer still stands for me to join you until you're ready,"
Liana says thoughtfully.
"And I still respectfully decline," I laugh softly. "You're needed here."
"Then what's bugging you?" Liana asks softly. "You are way too stressed out to just be nervous."
"It's Luther," I admit with a sigh. "I think I pushed him too far by postponing marking each other. We thought it would be romantic to do it on our wedding night. Initially, we wanted to get married after I moved out of the mansion after my year contract expired. Then the alpha-thing came along, and we decided to do that after we joined our new pack but now... he told me last night he doesn't know if he can move to another pack. "Did he say why?" Liana frowns.
"He didn't go into details, but something about his parents," I shake my head despondently. "What is it with other people's parents? Mine was perfect."
"As a survivor of a dysfunctional family, I can tell you it's not that easy to break free," Liana smiles sourly. "Whatever happened embedded deep scars and it will take a while for him to come to terms with whatever it is. Just be patient. He'll figure it out."
"I knew you'd have the answer," I smile relieved and hug her.
"Thank you."
"Of course," she laughs. "You two are my favourite couple.
Well, after Axel and myself."
"Naturally," I laugh heartedly. "And I remember how long it took you two to finally settle. I'll be patient, but I must warn you - patience isn't one of my virtues."
"Warn Luther," Liana snorts unladylike. "Not me."
"Now, come on," Liana takes my hand. "The limo is waiting.
"Limo?" My eyes widen. "But I was going to ride with my car."
"Please," Liana rolls her eyes to the heavens. "You can't arrive in that; I don't care how much you adore that car.
Drew will bring your car and luggage."
"But he's retired," I protest as anxiety settles within me. The moment has arrived too soon, and suddenly, I do not know if I am ready.
"Retired and bored out of his mind," Liana laughs as she drags me outside. "He was ecstatic when I asked him to do it last minute. I know how you feel about that car and there is no one else that I trust more than Drew. With him behind the wheel, there wouldn't even be a speck of dust on it."
"Alpha Adele," Drew walks towards us as we make our way to the limo. "You look breathtaking."
"Just Adele," | blush slightly. "I'm not alpha yet."
"But he's right," Luther talks behind me, and I swing around.
His smoldering brown eyes captivate mine, and instantly, my knees go weak.
"Come on, Drew," Liana takes him by the arm. "Let's go.
Adele, we'll see you soon."
"Yeah, sure," I mumble absentmindedly as Luther walks closer to me. Right now, I do not care about anything other than Luther. His tuxedo fits as if it were sewn on, and I have an intense desire to rip it off him. "You're here," I murmur as he cups my face and his thumb glides over my cheek.
"Where else would I be?" He leans over and brushes his lips softly over mine not to ruin my lipstick.
"I don't know," I admit breathlessly. Having him so close and not giving in to my urges is sweet t*****e. "After last night.."
"Let's not talk about last night," he whispers as his lips move along my jaw to my ear, and my eyes fall close. "We will figure it out later."
"Later will be too late," I mumble as goosebumps cover my skin when he kisses my neck. "Later I'll be alpha and then there's no turning back."
"We'll compromise," his breath tickles my skin. "Not sacrifice."
"Kiss me," I sigh as I wrap my arms around his neck.
"And ruin your lipstick?" He chuckles and I feel cold when he pulls back.
"Fuck the lipstick," I grunt frustrated.
"No, my sweet," I take my hand and lead me to the limo. "But I promise to ruin your makeup, outfit and underwear after the ceremony."
"Oh, I'm so holding you to that," I glare at him before getting into the limo.
Luther POV
I toy with my cufflinks as we drive to Moonstone. I lied when I said no sacrifice. The simple truth is, there is no compromise here. Either she gets what she wants, or I do.
But I did what Axel suggested - I decided what I wanted more, and that was Adele.
I have no idea how I will do it, but I will suck it up and be what she needs me to be. I cannot live with the alternative
- letting her go.
When I met Liana, I thought I was in love. Truthfully, I was mesmerized at best. But with Adele... my existence orbs around her.
"That's a lot of people," Adele mumbles next to me as we near the house that Jack used to live in. Liana took it upon herself to remove everything from the house. She and Adele refurbished it and turned it into a place inat Adele could call home. "You'll be great," I squeeze her hand reassuringly.
"Promise you'll stay by my side," she looks at me with big, uncertain eyes.
"Are you kidding me?" I grin and pull her closer. "I'm not letting anyone come too close to you. Some foot might fall in love with you."
"Are you upset that we haven't marked each other?" She looks down at her hands.
"Adele," I place my finger under her chin and lift her face."
We decided together that we wanted to do it on our wedding night. And giving this pack a wedding will be uplifting after everything they've been through. I'm not upset. I'm proud, and maybe a little jealous."
"Jealous?" She raises her eyebrows.
"Yes," I kiss her softly. "You're sinfully gorgeous."
"I love you," she whimpers as she leans against my chest, and I hold her tightly.
"I love you more," I reluctantly let her go when the limo stops. "Are you ready?"
"No," she laughs nervously. "But this can't be worse than being Liana's bridesmaid."
"Want to bet?" I grin mischievously. "Try being the bride."
"Not helpful," she rolls her eyes.
"Fine," I laugh softly before kissing her tenderly. "This will not be worse, because I will be right beside you."
"That's better," she smiles brightly. "With you by my side, I can face anything."
I only smile and get out of the car when the driver opens the door for us.
