Aria’s POV

The tension in the room was so strong, I felt like all the oxygen was being sucked out of the room.

Closing the door behind him, he stared at me and my eyes fell to his lips as I remembered the k**s we shared, my body suddenly feeling hot and bothered.

“Did you sleep well?” He asked, his deep velvety voice enveloping the entire room and I nodded, too worried that I would blurt out the wrong thing.

“You look a lot better considering how giggly and happy you were last night.”

Okay. He was not joking around. He was heading straight to the point. Going in for the kill.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I blurted and fought the urge to palm my face in embarrassment. Why was I choosing to feign memory loss?

Because I was embarrassed, that was why. And I dreaded being rejected if I asked about the k**s and it didn’t mean anything to him. Because it meant something to me. A lot.

His lips kicked up in a smile and it surprised me because I thought he would be angry about it. It was obvious that I was a s**t liar and clearly remembered the events of last night.

“You don’t remember anything at all? Not a single thing?”

I shook my head, refusing to meet his eyes and quickly wrapped up tidying Scian’s table. This room was too hot with him in it and I was sure that my cheeks were flaming already.

“I’m sure you will, eventually.” Roma added, his face amused in a way that I knew was rare for him. Roma Ruggiero was not a man that was easily amused but for some reason, he could usually not help himself around me.

It didn’t feel good to think that the only emotion I evoked in him was laughter. I was sure he thought I was cute lil a teddy bear. But I wanted more. I needed more. Was Sophia right? Did I need to start strutting around ad dressing like Salem? Would that get Roma to see me in a different light? To want me?

“I’m sure I will. I was told that you brought me back to the pack. Thank you for saving me. Again.”

He nodded, his eyes still studying me like I was a puzzle that needed to be solved and I touched my cheeks, feeling how hot it was.

“You’re here to see Scian, right? Let me look for her for you. You can wait right here.” I said and headed towards the door where he stood.

I had almost walked past me when my ankle decided that it was the best moment to twist and I stumbled, nearly falling to the ground.

Nearly being the word because Roma’s hands wrapped around my waist and held me up, pulling me flush against his chest.

A gasp left my throat as I tilted my chin up to look at him and I felt the temperature of the room become even hotter even though I knew that the air conditioner was working.

This close, I was sure he could hear the rapid beating of my heart and I inhaled his scent like a drug addict, feeling a sense of dejavu as I remembered how he had held me against himself at the club, exactly like this.

I swallowed when his eyes zeroed in on my lips and didn’t know when I held on to him, my entire body thrumming with anticipation.

I was so sure that he was going to k**s me. It looked like he was going to k**s me but just as he leaned into me, the door opened and I flew away from his grasp immediately, refusing to look at his face as Scian entered her office.

“Why, hello, my Alpha and my favourite patient.” Her eyes moved between the two of us and she smirked.

“Did I interrupt something?”

“No” Roma said at the same time that I screamed “Not at all”

The two of them looked at me and I smiled innocently.

“I’ll be heading to the library now, Scian. I’ll be back soon.” I told her, refusing to look at Roma and fled the room.

Roma’s POV

“Are you going to sit or are you going to go after her?” Scian said and when I turned, I realized that I had not even noticed when she moved to sit behind her desk, my eyes on the door.

My lips kicked up in a smile as I remembered Aria’s reaction to seeing me in the office.

If she knew how she reeked of desire when she looked at me, she would be mortified. She was already embarrassed, so I was thankful that she wasn’t a werewolf with those senses.

I knew that if it was someone else, I would have been terribly upset if they had denied remembering what happened last night. But Aria’s denial was a clean confession that not only had she remembered what happened, she could recall everything in detail. Most especially that k**s.

I had opened my eyes on her bed, terrified that I had allowed myself to fall asleep beside her when I didn’t usually sleep without my chains but when my eyes had opened, her head was on my shoulder and her hand over my heart. It was the most peaceful sleep I had had in years.

I had watched her for several minutes, my body reluctant to leave her but knowing that there were serious issues that I had left behind when I had rushed to the club to replace her. Matters that needed to be addressed.

Shaking my head, I sat in front of Scian as she gave me a knowing smile.

“How is Drey?”

She heaved a sigh of relief and the knot in my chest loosened when she answered.

“Luckily we were able to stop the silver from getting to his heart. He survived. His mate is with him now but he has not woken up yet.”

Reaching out to take her hand, I released a harsh breath, grateful that I had not lost another pack member.

“Thank you, Scian. Thank you.”

Patting my hand, she nodded.

“I’m getting old. And I think it’s time for Scott and my other apprentice to go to college and receive proper medical training, just like I did. We need all the hands we can get.”

I nodded.

“Anything you think we should do. Do it. You have my support.”

“What about the ones that did this? Were they found?”

I nodded, my lips curling up in a cruel smile.

By the time I had woken up in Aria’s room, Raphael had found and captured the two assailants. One of them had tried to escape and ended up dead. The other would have been the same too but I needed to use him to send a message to his colleagues. To his superiors. A warning that there would be consequences. That my benevolence was at it’s limit. A message that if they wanted war, they would get it.

“They have been dealt with. And I have sent the humans a message.”

A reminder that they were toying with a beast.
