Aria’s POV

“You are going to drill a hole into his body if you keep staring at him like that.” Sophia whispered and I blushed.

We were attending a pack meeting in the grand hall inside the mansion and as servants, we had been allowed to attend to observe as well as share snacks.

If I wasn’t standing in the hall with over fifty wolves, I would never have believed that deep in the mountains, there were a pack of wolves that thrived, living separately from the members of the town in the plains.

Sophia told me that there were some sentinels who lived in the town responsible for monitoring the town and ensuring that nothing interfered with the life of the wolves in the mountains.

Apparently, some of the wolves were away, studying in college to gain skills needed to thrive.

I was surprised to hear Roma had graduated with a degree in architecture.

“How do you know all of these things, Soph?” I whispered as one of the wolves stood to ask a question and she shrugged.

“We are a very small tightly knit community and stuff gets boring around here sometimes. So, everyone knows everything about everyone. Like how we know that Salem is sleeping with Carlos even though she has her eyes set on becoming the next Luna.”

I frowned, my eyes moving to where Salem sat, her eyes filled with adoration as she watched Roma whose face was stoic as he watched the wolf speaking ask a question.

Raphael was the one who answered the question and Roma’s eyes moved lazily through the crowd stopping when it landed on me.

His blue eyes softened and his lips kicked up in a smile that was so brief I thought I had imagined it.

“Did he just smile in this direction. At you?” Sophia who could never miss something like that, whispered and I shrugged, my face turning red as I bit my l*p.

“Maybe.”

“Something definitely happened between the two of you, didn’t it?” She whispered and as the wolves left the hall, the meeting coming to a close, I followed Sophia out, shrugging my shoulders again as I moved to the table where Roma and the rest of the high ranking members of the pack were still seated, discussing and picked up the empty tray that had been used to serve snacks.

I turned around to head towards the door where Sophia was waiting for me when I twisted my ankle and stumbled.

The tray fell to the ground but a hand wrapped around my waist, suspending me in the air and stopping me from falling on my face.

His scent was the first thing that registered before he raised me up and turned me around to look at me, his eyes wide.

My eyes were wider with shock because I knew for a fact that he was on the podium seconds ago.

I looked around to see everyone else looking at the two of us with surprise but Raphael and Sophia were the only ones with smirks on their faces.

“Are you okay?” Roma asked me, his hand still holding me up and I looked back to see his eyes wide with concern and I nodded slowly.

“It seems your reflexes have gotten even faster, Alpha.” Raphael said with a grin and Roma frowned at him.

One of the men looked at me as Roma released me gently, raising an eyebrow.

“You should say thank you, girl.” He said and I nodded quickly, turning around to bow in front of Roma.

“Thank you.”

I didn’t wait to hear his reply before I picked the tray, running out of the hall to see Sophia holding her laughter.

“Don’t start.” I warned her.

“There is definitely something going on between you two, isn’t there. One minute he was sitting and the next, he was grabbing you like you weighed nothing. I can definitely see the appeal now.” She whispered and I g*****d, pushing her away.

I didn’t know what was going on between Roma and I or if there was even something that was happening but the entire atmosphere between us had changed since that k**s.

He was certainly no longer avoiding me and it was if wherever I turned, he was there.

He had not spoken again about that night too so I was skeptical to believe that there was really something to hold on to.

Maybe I was reaching.

But it seemed like the universe was not willing to let me get rid of my hopes so easily because after dinner, Raphael sent for me and led me to the huge large doors of the West wing.

“What are we doing here?” I asked, my eyes wide in surprise.

Ever since the last time I had barged into the west wing, I had never mistakenly thought about ever going back there.

“Roma’s room needs to be arranged. Normally, the only other person allowed in to his room, Agatha, who always cleans the room has fallen ill and until she recovers, someone else needs to be in charge of that. I don’t have the strength to search for someone suitable and then I remembered, there is someone who has sneaked into the room quite a couple of times.” He said with an amused smile and I looked away in embarrassment.

“And as you saw today, I don’t think he’ll be averse to you in his personal space. You can say no if you don’t want to do it and I can replace someone…”

“No” I shouted immediately, clearing my throat.

“No, I’ll do it.”

The universe was giving me a sign, was it not?

And this was my opportunity to be around Roma as much as I could.

Nodding with a grin, he turned and walked away.

“The cleaning materials are in one of the store rooms inside the Wing. See you later.”

Taking a deep breath, I entered the West wing for the first time with actual permission and headed straight for the store room to get supplies.

My eyes scanned his bedroom, staring at the chains that remained in the same position as I remembered and I bent down to touch one of the chains.

Was he in pain? Why did he need chains? What secrets did he have that I did not know about?

Moving to his table at the other end of the room, I froze when I saw a frame resting on the table.

It was the drawing that I had made of him and dropped the night I had run away. I had no idea that he still had it. That he had even seen it.

Smiling, I hummed to myself as I started to clean the room which was not even dirty but looked more like a hotel room, devoid of human touch. It was no news that Roma spent more time in his study than here.

Closing my eyes, I moved my waist to the song that I hummed and turned around.

My smile dropped and my eyes widened in surprise because I had not heard him enter. But Roma was standing in the room, his shirt in his hand as he looked at me.
