Aria’s POV

I had never actually driven a car since I finished from driving school because I could never actually afford one.

But now as I broke into one of the cars in the garage of the abandoned warehouse basement where Daniel had left me, I shook with horror as I drove back to the pack.

I didn’t even know if I would remember the road because according to Daniel, the reason why no one had found the pack was because it was hidden with strong magic.

And I had been so naive to trust him and his innocent smile, unknowingly playing a part in what I feared would be the destruction of my home.

Because that was what the pack was, I realized.

I might deny it from today till tomorrow, but that house where I lived with my father had stopped being a home for me since he started drinking and gambling.

My home was with Scian. With Sophia. With Scott. With Raphael.

My home was with Roma.

I didn’t know if it was just the fact that Daniel had underestimated me but he had not tied my hands too tight and it took his leaving and my desperation to save my loved ones to realise that and release myself from the binds.

The door was locked so I had to break a window and pass through it and even though my knees and arms were bleeding from the bruises of jumping down, the adrenaline was probably what was keeping me going.

I knew that I needed to get there and warn them.

My phone had been taken from me and I worried that stopping to call would only delay me and lead to the inevitable.

But as I drove into the woods, I could smell the smoke and I realized that whatever magic had hidden the pack from the outside world had been destroyed.

I had done that. It was my fault.

I needed to rectify it. I needed to tell Roma that I didn’t know anything about it. I needed him to know that I had no hand in what Daniel was planning.

That he had stolen that precious gift from me.

I needed to tell Roma even if it was once that I loved him. And that I forgave him for what he did to save me.

I needed to tell him everything.

But as I saw the fire burning the mansion when I parked, my eyes watered and tears streamed down my cheeks.

Maybe I was too late.

Kneeling in front of the house, I sobbed so hard, I was sure that my voice would crack at the end of the day and that was when I heard a roar.

My eyes widened and I started to run in the direction of that sound, hoping it meant what I believed it to be.

That some of them had survived. That everyone was still alive.

I stifled a scream when I reached the clearing and saw Roma and Daniel engaged in a fight. There was an arrow stuck in Roma’s shoulder and black marks surrounded the arrow on his skin.

Raphael ran over to me and tried to hold me back when I would have run into their middle.

“Why is he fighting like that?” I cried when he staggered.

“Wolfsbane. The poison is spreading fast and we need to get the arrow out for him to start healing. Or else…” Raphael could not finish his statement.

“Why are you all standing then?” I asked him and he shook his head.

“It’s a fight to the death. A duel where the winner would determine what was going to happen to the loser.”

And Roma was losing.

I saw him struggle to remain sane. To not give in to the Beast but coupled with the poisoning, it would be difficult to remain standing.

I had to do something.

Pushing Raphael away, I slipped from his grasp and ran towards where they were fighting.

“Stop what you’re doing.” I screamed and the minute Roma looked in my direction, Daniel poured dust in his eyes, raising a silver dagger.

He was fast. But in that moment, I was faster.

And as I pushed Roma out of the way, I felt the blade sink deep into my back.

Roma’s POV

Nothing in my entire life could have prepared me to watch history repeat itself again.

It was like seeing a movie.

Selene taking a poisoned arrow to her chest.

Aria taking a blade in her back to save me.

My roar shook the entire forest and I didn’t wait for Daniel who fell to the ground in horror at what he had done.

I tore out his throat in one move and severed his head from his shoulders.

Raphael changed into his wolf and growled at the remaining hunters who ran for their lives.

Me?

I knelt beside my dying mate, holding her to me as she coughed up b***d.

And the innocent small woman still had the nerve to smile at me.

Tears rolled down my eyes in horror.

“Don’t cry” she whispered and I shook my head even though I knew that I was one step away from sobbing.

“Why did you do that?” I stuttered, shaking even as I cradled her in my arms and she smiled, her teeth covered in b***d.

“Because I love you, Roma. Because it has always been you. I’m just sorry that I didn’t say it sooner.”

“It’s okay. Please stop talking. You’re going to worsen your condition.”

“I’m dying, Roma. I know that I am. But its worth it. All of this. It’s worth it.”

And then her eyes closed and I felt her heart stop beating.

“No” I sobbed, resting my head against hers as I shook in sorrow.

I didn’t realize that there was a woman standing in front of us until she crouched down.

I had seen her before in my dreams.

“Who are you and what do you want?” I growled, my eyes swollen in grief and she smiled.

“I’m that woman that you hate so much.” She said with a smirk and I realized who she was.

The moon goddess.

I noticed that the full moon was no longer out and when I looked back at her, she nodded.

“Indeed.”

“What do you want? To gloat? To show me just how much suffering I can take?”

She shook her head and then she touched Aria’s forehead.

“To show you that you can be redeemed. And she is your redemption, my child. She is who I sent to give you a second chance. Your curse is lifted. Take care of her and the little one blooming inside of her. Her life is tied to yours now. So she will live forever.”

Before I could ask what she meant, she was gone. And the full moon was back in the sky.

And then I felt it. The mating bond snapped into place and I could see all of Aria’s memories from her childhood up till the very last moment when she took that knife for me.

That other presence that I could always feel also left me at the same time. The Demon. The Beast. It was gone.

Was I dreaming?

Was what the goddess said true?

And just then, I heard it.

The sound of her heart beating again and when Aria opened her eyes, she stared at me in confusion.

“I had a dream. You were a baby. A very chubby one.” She whispered and I laughed, my eyes streaming with tears of joy as I hugged her tightly.

“What’s going on?” She asked and when I looked around at the battlefield, I knew that despite everything, we were going to be okay.

Because my mate was with me.

“We are going to have a baby, sweetheart. That’s what is going on.”
