Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love -
Chapter 298 Negligence
Charles glanced at him and smiled. "Mr. Wang, go back and comfort Anna. With your financial resources, you can even run a private hospital just for her. But you must always remind her that as a doctor, she should always be aware of medical ethics!"
"Yes, Mr. Fu. You're right!" David didn't dare say anything else and politely bade him goodbye.
Charles took one last puff of his cigarette then slowly pressed it into the ashtray. He raised his wrist to check his watch. It was now five o'clock in the afternoon. Nancy should be off work by now.
Nancy must be very happy now that he had finally fired Anna.
Shouldn't she be calling him right now? This should be good news to her.
Charles waited for a while but he didn't receive a call from Nancy. Eventually, he decided that he would call her instead.
However, Nancy hung up just after a few rings.
Charles frowned. He perfectly knew that she was a stubborn woman. But she was not completely unreasonable. No matter how foul her mood was, she must have absorbed everything that happened by now. Why wouldn't she answer her phone?
He tried calling her again, but her phone was off.
"Dammit! What the hell is this woman doing?" Charles cursed angrily. He ran his fingers through his hair as he tried to regain his composure.
He was so annoyed that he called Hobart. Through him, he found out that Nancy had filed for a sick leave and hadn't been to the hospital the entire day.
There were a lot of patients in the pediatric department today. All of the doctors in the hospital had their hands full! How could she leave work?
Hobart was so anxious he was like an ant on a hot pan. "Mr. Fu, what do you think we should do? It's taking everything we have to keep up with the work load. Jessie is still in the ward, Anna has left, and now Nancy is missing. The pediatric department won't be able to run smoothly anymore!"
"Don't worry, President Hobart! I'm going to look for Nancy!" As soon as he ended the call, Charles immediately dialed Hiram's number. When he answered, he asked immediately asked about Nancy's whereabouts.
"Hiram, do you have any idea where Nancy went? She's not answering my calls." Where could she have gone to after she left Jay's house?
Hiram quickly informed him of what he knew. "She went to the sanatorium, sir."
The moment he heard this, Charles ended the phone call. He hastily grabbed his coat and walked out of the office.
Of course! He should have known that she would visit her mother in the sanatorium. He couldn't believe he forgot about it. He had been neglecting Nancy's feelings lately.
Meanwhile, Nancy had just finished giving Jade a sponge bath. Now, she was just drying her with a towel.
As she watched the setting sun, she felt her bitterness rising.
Jade couldn't speak as articulately as before. Nevertheless, Nancy knew very well that her mother's only wish now was for her to be happy.
She held her daughter's hand tightly and said, "Nancy, you should go home. Nadia is waiting for you!" There was a hint of anxiety in her tone.
Nancy smiled and patted her hand gently. "It's okay, Mom. Don't worry. I'll stay with you a little while longer," she said as she sat on the chair across her mother's bed.
No matter how much a child tried to hide her true feelings, a mother would always figure it out. Jade could feel the bitterness behind her daughter's smile. She was well-aware that Nancy had something troubling her. However, she didn't ask what it was just in case she didn't want to tell her.
Even though Nancy said she wanted to accompany Jade, she merely stared off into the distance with blurry eyes and remained silent.
Seeing that her daughter was distressed, Jade sighed. "Nancy, don't be too caught up in love. It's pretty simple. If you don't love him, you have every right to leave. Okay?"
"No, Mom. It's not about love. It's about my work. I'm just a little upset. I'm sorry if I made you worry." Nancy stood at once and gave her mother a hug.
"Can't you just ask Charles for help?" Jade suggested.
"No, I can't." Nancy withdrew her arms slowly and sighed. "It's just that I talking to her mother about this.
I hate him." She said it with her voice full of bitterness. As soon as those words came out, Nancy bit her lips. She hadn't planned on
"But why?" Jade stared at Nancy inquisitively. She had no idea this was how her daughter felt.
"I don't know. I just do!" She strode across the room then abruptly stopped.
For as soon as she said this, someone gently opened the door. It was Charles. He came in with a smile on his face. Naturally, Nancy was surprised.
"How did you know I was here?" Nancy asked him curiously.
Soon after she asked this, she immediately felt stupid. Charles invested a lot of money in this sanatorium. Technically speaking, he was the boss here. Of course, he'd know that she was here.
Thus, Nancy thought that Charles would say, "I'm the boss of this sanatorium. How can I not know you are here?"
But he didn't. He responded in a completely different manner. He walked towards Jade. "I didn't know you were here. I haven't visited your mother in a while. I happened to pass by today, so I came to see her. didn't think you'd be here too."
Charles looked sincere with that smile. He was hiding his anxiety really well.
On the other hand, Nancy was at a loss for words. She couldn't believe how Charles was able to act nonchalant.
"Oh. Thanks, I guess," she mumbled.
"When did you learn to be so polite to me? Come on. It's like we don't know each other. I don't want us to be so distant from each other. I'm sure the children wouldn't want that too. Don't you think so, Auntie?" Nancy had never heard Charles speak so gently before.
The tone of his voice was as soft and kind as a child's.
"Why, yes! Charles is absolutely right! I just have to ask, when are you and Nancy going to get married?" Jade was worried that Charles might be mistreating Nancy. But judging from the way he spoke, it didn't seem likely.
"Auntie, I'm only waiting for Nancy's decision. If she says yes, I'll marry her right away," Charles responded sweetly.
It was clearly up to Nancy whether they would push through with their marriage or not.
"You're not getting any younger, Nancy. Why don't you just get married to Charles as soon as possible?" Jade complained. She only wanted to see her daughter in good hands.
"I also want to know the reason. What are you waiting for? You know that you're the only one I love! You're the only woman for me!"
'Is Charles forcing me to get married today?' Nancy thought. Her temper was rising once again.
Charles was acting so amiable in front of Nancy's mother. It was unnerving. Right now, he was looking affectionately at Nancy.
However, she had to restrain herself. She didn't want her mother to see her angry.
"I'm not stalling. I just don't have the time for that kind of thing."
"A woman must put her family first. When will you understand that?" Jade raised her voice. She felt as though Nancy hadn't figured it out yet.
"I think Auntie is right! It's for the kids' sake!" Charles agreed. Great! He got Nancy's mother on his side.
She felt backed into a corner. Nevertheless, she couldn't afford to lose her temper. "Mom, I'm going home. I'll visit you again another day," she muttered hastily. "Okay, dear. See you soon!" Nancy hugged her, and then hastily walked towards the door. Jade winked at Charles and said, "Please, treat Nancy well." "Yes, Auntie. I'm leaving, too." Charles had already achieved his purpose of coming here. Seeing that Nancy was about to leave, he followed her quickly. "Please, drive safely!" Jade reminded the two.
"Of course, Auntie. Bye!" Charles strode towards the door as well. As soon as he got out of the room, he broke into a run.
Nancy walked quickly down the stairs. When she got out of the sanatorium, the moon had already risen.
She was seething with anger as she walked towards her car.
Suddenly, Charles grabbed her arm. "I haven't seen you the whole day, Nancy. Don't you think you owe me an explanation?" Charles demanded. "Why? Who are you to demand an explanation from me? I don't owe you anything!" Nancy replied angrily. Her eyes were brimming with tears.
