Chapter 589 Who Is Guilty (Part One)
Resembling a puzzle with a missing piece, Darren's question baffled the law enforcer in goldenarmor as well.
After searching the back of his mind for answers, he replied, "I don't know either, because nobody inthe whole Sacred Palace knows where the Upper Spiritual World is."
"Well... It's so strange," Darren murmured.
"You used to live in the Bottom Spiritual World, and the setup there was too limited. Unlike your oldworld, there are many strange things and setups in this real Lothlann Continent. You can try to replaceabout the place and see for yourself later,” the law enforcer suggested.
After that, the law enforcer shifted his gaze from Darren towards the far horizon. As his eyesnarrowed to a point across the vast land that stretched before them, he instructed Darren to speedup.
After flying for what seemed like an eternity, they finally arrived at a palace which was a hundredthousand feet tall—unbelievably strange yet surreal.
In front of the palace, while he followed with his eyes the pinnacle of the towering palace, Darrenfelt himself just much smaller than a tiny ant. It even reached to the point that he felt tiny as a grainof dust—almost negligible and close to nothing.
Aside from the unique feature of the palace, the ancient glorious aura that was exuding from it filledDarren with great respect and reverence towards the place.
"Hoo, no wonder it is called the Sacred Palace. It is way more magnificent than any other palacesI've ever seen," Darren praised, with his mouth gaped open.
"Let's get inside now. We can talk about this after we meet Lord Donald,” the law enforcer urgedDarren, breaking him out of his wondering and amazement.
Inside the palace, every piece of furniture seemed to be glimmering and glittering in grandeur.Runes seemed to have maintained the tranquility of the place that even Darren's erratic breathingcould be heard.
"My Lord, Darren is coming," an old man said to a middle-aged man in a golden robe seated on thepedestal throne at the center of the hall.
"I'm afraid I have to apologize to him later personally,” said the middle-aged man. He was noneother than the famous Lord Donald.
"My Lord, I don't think it's appropriate for you to apologize to such a young man," reckoned the oldman. He was the same old man who had projected a rule power shadow in front of Darren before."I did misunderstand him. Why can't I apologize?" asked Donald in a casual tone. He was notblaming the elder, but waited for him to give him a fair reason for not apologizing to Darren.
"You have such a high reputation as the top leader of the human race. What you need is authority.I'm afraid it's not appropriate for you to apologize to a young man for such a small andinconsiderable matter.
Besides, he is so arrogant that he hasn't seen much of the world. He will be much more arrogant ifyou bow your head and apologize to him,”
the old man articulated soberly. It could be seen by the look on his face and the tone of his voicethat he was no fan of Darren's.
Actually, the hidden reason why the old man hated Darren that much was because he got scoldedby the middle-aged man the last time he worked as the Sacred Envoy. During that time, he felt sohumiliated and ridiculed that he had turned a lousy eye towards Darren.
"You are right. But last time, I ordered him to fight against our enemies at the risk of his life. It wassuch a reckless action that I have made because I was too anxious. This was indeed my fault. Howshould I explain it to him?" Donald agreed and asked the old man's opinion at once.
"My Lord, nobody should question your order. Even if there was a small flaw, any young man likehim shouldn't have to complain against you, right? Besides, the fundamental cause of the wholeincident was him! If he hadn't provoked Eddy, we wouldn't have undergone such a big crisis withthe border mutants.
If we go back to square one about the incident carefully, the young man's contribution is notenough to remedy the wrong he did. I don't think we need to apologize to him. What's more, weshould punish him. Only with proper punishment can he avoid such misbehavior in the future,” theold man said firmly with a pile of seemingly good reasons.
"Oh, you did remind me that Darren made a big mistake. I almost forgot it,” Donald said as his eyeslit up.
"But we don't have to punish him. After all, he helped us get through this crisis,” Donald added atonce.
"My Lord, I don't think so. If we analyze the whole thing carefully, we humans wasted a vital methodthat Hiram the Great left to us just because of him. And I know that you know, the witchers cansuppress the fiend's body parts for another five hundred years at most. By then, how can our humanrace fight against the fiend before a holy emperor is born? In my opinion, we were forced to use theweapon and skill that Hiram the Great had left for us. It was a great crime that Darren hadcommitted!"
the old man said sternly, stressing out that Darren needed to be punished. Anyway, that was whathe wanted from the start.
Hearing the old man's stern tone, Donald slowly nodded his head and said, "You are right. I willscold him for a while when he comes.”
"What?"
The old man wanted to say something more, but Donald stopped him. His raised hand was enoughfor the old man to understand that he was already fed up about the issue. Thus, he kept his silenceand didn't delve in deeper lest the punishment meant for Darren might end up as a punishment forhim.
Just scold him for a while?" the old man thought silently. It was apparent that he was not satisfiedwith the lord's discretion, but he didn't dare to say anything more.
