"Did you have something to do with the Luna's poisoning?" Jared asked her, while she scratched her head with her fingers.

He sighed and placed his hand on her shoulders.

"I know you love the Alpha, but you shouldn't take such a grave risk. What if you were caught, I might not be able to save you." He added.

There were some sounds around the house, and Jared peeped through the window to take a look.

"They are searching every house, hurry and freshen up," Jared ordered, and Lydia ran to her room. Jared dipped the pass in a bowl of water and wiped it neat of the blood. He sighed, he never knew his daughter could be so bold to take a life.

There was a knock on the door, and one of the maids went to receive the person knocking.

"Where is General Jared?" The assistant chief guard asked the maid.

"He is inside. Please wait while I tell him of your visit." The maid replied and turned to walk away, but was stopped by Jared's voice.

"Who is disturbing me by this hour?" Jared yelled as he walked towards the man.

The assistant chief guard bowed and greeted Jared.

"On the Alpha's orders, we were told to inspect all houses in the pack." The assistant chief guard said while Jared frowned at him.

So as not to waste time or complicate matters further, Jared ordered everyone to come outside, and a general head count was done.

"Does the number tally with the number of people I registered for my house?" Jared asked, and the assistant chief guard bowed.

"Sorry for disturbing your night, sir." He said while Jared hissed before walking back inside.

"Thanks for covering up for me, Father," Lydia said while Jared sighed.

"Be careful next time." He warned her, while Lydia nodded her head.

The assistant general walked out of the house dejectedly, he was sure she had seen a lady whom they had all pursued. But it was now concerning that all the females were in their respective houses and none of them was stained with blood.

Whoever did it was a perfect assassin; she left no traces at all, and no evidence whatsoever was left behind. Even the fingerprint sensor couldn't sense the culprit's fingerprints. She must have used gloves throughout the whole operation.

"Sir, I think there is a girl that we haven't checked." One of the guards said to the assistant chief guard, who instantly turned to take a look at him.

"Who is she?" He asked the guard.

"Clara." The guard replied and the assistant chief guard's face lit open.

"How did I forget about her? That girl seems suspicious." He said and ordered the guards to march to her house.

Meanwhile, Clara had sneaked into the pack and had sighted the guards checking each room. She knew she had to be in her room before the guards, and she ran as fast as she could.

She locked the door behind her, panted heavily, and began to undress. She pushed her dress under the bed and immediately changed into a nightgown before crawling on the bed.

She had barely rested her back on the bed when a knock landed on her door.

"Who is it?" She faked her voice as if she was already in a deep sleep.

"Sorry to trouble you, Miss Clara. Can we have some minutes with you?" The assistant chief guard said, and Clara sighed.

"You can come in." She replied and two of the guards accompanied the assistant chief guard.

The assistant chief guard, who went by the name Patrick was shocked to see Clara fully composed on her bed. He looked around the room but couldn't replace anything.

"Sorry for disturbing you." He said and was about to leave the room when he noticed a cloth under the bed.

"Why are those clothes stained with blood?" The question made Clara's heart skip a beat. She had tried her best not to soil her clothes with the blood, but she was shocked to hear that the cloth was still stained with blood.

"Oh...that...it's a girl's thing. It happened all of a sudden and I had to use the cloth to wipe the blood. You understand, right?" She lied and wore a calm expression that Patrick couldn't tell that it was a lie.

Patrick nodded his head and turned to walk out of the room when his eyes caught a hold of another thing.

"If I may ask, since when have you been to bed?" He asked Clara who stared into the atmosphere for a while.

"Around 10 pm, what's wrong?" She replied.

"How then are your shoes stained with mud, and they are still wet," Patrick said, and Clara's mind raced.

"Oh! I went out to ease myself some minutes ago, I must have stepped on the mud by then. You can ask the girl next to me, she can testify to it." She replied, and Patrick nodded.

"Alright then." He replied and walked out of the room.

Clara placed her hand on her chest and sighed.

"That was close."
