The Alpha King's Hybrid Mate -
Chapter 61
The moon priestess walked in gracefully, crossing her hands on her belly. She turned to Jared and bowed before him.
Everyone in the room was shocked, the moon priestess ought to bow to Killian only, but now she just bowed to Jared. They all began to wonder if the moon priestess was already regarding Jared as the new Alpha.
"Greetings, future Alpha Jared." The moon priestess greeted, while everyone gasped in shock. Jared smiled and patted the moon priestess on her hands.
"Good job, moon priestess. Now, we need you to relay all that transpired between you and Killian for everyone to hear." Jared mumbled, he grabbed a chair and sat with his legs crossed, confident that he was going to win against Killian.
"I won't let you die in vain, Lydia," Jared muttered.
The moon priestess walked to the center of the hall and cleared her throat.
"I bear witness that Killian is indeed the murderer of Lydia." The moon priestess uttered.
"Moon priestess! Why would you say such a thing? I have nothing against you. Why would you frame me for a sin I didn't commit?" Killian roared, but the moon priestess didn't yield to his threatening voice. Rather, she gave him a smirk and continued. "Everyone here knows that I say nothing but the truth. What? Are you such in a hurry to silence me?" The moon priestess teased, making Killian boil more in anger.
"A few days ago, Killian came to meet me in the forest close to my house. He told me that he needed my help to bring down Jared. He said he felt that it was Jared and Lydia that framed Sara for the murder, so he wanted to avenge her." The moon priestess paused and stared at Killian.
"Am I still lying?" The moon priestess asked but gave him no chance to respond as she continued with her words.
"I disagreed with him, but he resolved to fight me. He was afraid that I would spill his secret so he wanted to silence me for good. A fight ensued between us and I was injured by him since he was stronger. If you don't believe me, you can go to check the forests and see the fight marks for yourself." She said to the elders. She also pulled up her sleeve and showed a scratch on her arm.
"This was done by Killian." She continued.
"Lies! You are lying!" Killian roared. He had obviously visited the moon priestess to ask her about Sara's whereabouts, and it was even her that saved him from the rogue wolf's attack.
"Moon priestess, do you have any evidence claiming that it was indeed Killian that scratched you?" Cerebrus asked the moon priestess. He was also against Killian and would do anything to side with Jared.
"Of course." The moon priestess said to him.
"All moon priestesses have a special attribute, if someone touches you, a red pigment would stay on the person's hand and won't clean off for a whole year. Alpha Jared just patted my hand; you can check his hand; you will see the pigment there." All the elders flung their eyes at Jared, who lifted his palm for everyone to see, and just as the moon priestess had said, his hand was painted with a red pigment.
"Now, let Killian show us his claws if it has the red pigment or not. Besides, this scratch is the only scar I have on me." She said with a mischievous smile.
Killian shrunk back in his chair, aware that he had fallen deeply into the trap laid by his enemies.
He remembered touching the moon priestess that very day when he was full of emotions, now, it was being used against him.
The elders urged Killian to show his hands and to everyone's shock, the red pigment was there. Everyone gasped in shock, slowly realizing that Killian was truly the murderer.
Jared sat down and smiled silently, happy at how the scenario was turning out in his favor.
"What a despicable action, Killian. You should be stripped of your Alpha's title and banished from this land." Cerebrus screamed. Some of the elders slowly moved away from Killian's side and stood beside Jared. It was only a few elders that stood by Killian. "The moon priestess has approved of Jared as the new Alpha, we have no choice but to follow her decisions." One of the elders standing beside Jared muttered.
"I don't believe it, Alpha Killian absolutely can't be the murderer. How about you think it through, moon priestess? You might be missing out on something." An elder from Killian's side said to the moon priestess.
"Are you saying the moon priestess is drunk and doesn't know what she is saying?" Jared roared, but the elder was not afraid of him. He was about to get involved in a fight against Jared when some guards walked in, carrying Lydia on their shoulders.
Jared instantly stood up as Lydia was carried into the throne room. His eyeballs became reddened and tears clouded his vision.
He slowly moved to Lydia and bent beside her. He stroked her hair and patted her cheeks.
"I am sorry, Lydia. I failed to protect you. You've loved him all your life, but he took your love for granted and ended up killing you. Was it worth it, my silly daughter?" He cried, raising Lydia and pressing her head against his chest. His teardrops fell on Lydia's cold face.
Suddenly, Lydia opened her eyes, making Jared stunned. Before he could react, she took out a sharp knife and stabbed him deep in his belly.
"Arghhhh!" Jared screamed in pain as blood gushed out of his belly.
"You are... not... dead?" He stuttered.
"How about you guess?" Lydia replied to him with a smirk.
