The Alpha King's Rebellious Queen -
The Alpha King’s Rebellious Queen Chapter 54
Cassius’s POV
Jemma and I walked into the grand ballroom arm in arm. Our families followed us. My beautiful queen and I walked a circle around the room. I saw my cousin Felix in the crowd smirking at me. It took everything I had not to grab him by the throat and strangle him for entering Jemma’s dreams. I still had to replace out how but I suspected the raven-haired woman on his side had something to do with it.
Jemma squeezed my hand, and I glanced down at her violet-colored eyes. ‘I can feel your anger boiling, Cass.’ She mind linked me.
‘That rat bastard cousin of mine is smirking like he knows I know it was him. He probably also knows I have little chance of proving it was him.’ I replied to her and led her towards the leaders of the other supernaturals. ‘I have Maria keeping an eye on him. For now, we have to act like nothing is amiss.’ I stopped before King Romulus.
The vampire was dressed in his finest suit and had on a silver sash. His pale skin was made to look even paler by his nearly white hair and white eyes. On his arm was his queen Guinevere. The woman has the reddest hair I have ever seen on anyone. She reminds me of a siren or a mermaid. They both smiled as I approached with Jemma.
“Ah, Queen Jemma,” The vampire’s voice purred out with a slight Italian accent. “I am King Romulus DiAngelo, and this is my wife and queen, Guinevere.”
Jemma smiled and took his hand and lightly shook it. She then shook the queen’s hand. “It is nice to meet you,” She eyes Guinevere and tilts her head. “Forgive me, Queen Guinevere, but I was under the understanding that you were no longer a wolf.”
The red-haired woman offered a warm smile. “You are direct, Queen Jemma. But yes, I am still a wolf while also being a vampire. It was a necessary change to allow me to live a long life besides my king.” She smiled at her husband.
“Sorry to intrude,” Jemma said to her.
“No, it is quite alright.” The two of them exchanged a smile. “You know I knew your grandmother.”
Jemma’s eyes lit up. “My grandmother? Victoria?” She tilted her head and looked over the queen.
She laughed. “Yes, I am much older than I look. Your grandmother was an intriguing woman and a brilliant fighter. It was because of her that we were able to sign the treaty between species.”
“Oh wow,” Jemma listened with fascination. It was clear she wanted to speak some more to the other queen, but we had to meet others.
“Jemma, love. You can come back to Queen Guinevere later. There are others you have to meet with,” I said to her. She sighed.
“Forgive us, Queen Guinevere.”
“Call me Guin.”
Jemma smiled at her. “You can call me Jemma.” The two queens nodded to each other as I lead her towards Tuatha. The leader of the spellcasters.
A thin man with a long white beard stood wearing a black cloak. He looked ancient, like he had lived for thousands of years. He has startling grey eyes. “Your majesties,” He purred out in an English accented voice.
“Jemma, this is Grand Wizard Tuatha,” I introduced them as Jemma shook his hand. The man’s eyes widened.
“You are with child, no?”
She nodded.
“Twins, powerful twins I can sense. White wolves like yourself,” He closed his eyes for a moment, “Your children will be instrumental in keeping this world from falling into darkness.”
Her mouth fell open, and she looked at me. “How?”
Tuatha smiled, “You will see in time, your majesty.”
Her hand clasped mine. I squeezed it to comfort her as I could sense her nervousness. “So they are both white wolves?” Jemma asked him.
“You can’t sense it.”
She sighed. “I uh, wasn’t sure.”
He placed a grizzled hand on her arm, “Or you were afraid to admit it.”
She nodded to him. “You may be right.”
“Come along, love,” I said to her quietly. I lead her to a tall bald man with dark tan skin and a black beard. He has brown eyes and scars covering his face. He practically sneered as we approached. Definitely underdressed for this function, wearing camouflage pants and a black shirt. “Jemma, this is Gideon Kreel, the leader of the Hunters.”
Jemma gave him an uneasy nod. “Mr. Kreel.”
He looked her up and down. “Queen Jemma.” His cold voice spoke out.
She trembled slightly under the intimidating glare of the hunter. No werewolf was comfortable around the hunters. Their very existence was meant to destroy the supernaturals. But my father had forged a treaty with them and the other supernatural to keep the regular humans safe. The hunters would only kill the supernaturals that stepped out of line.
“Well, I won’t keep you from your fancy party,” The hunter’s cold voice slithered out. “Mind if I eat some food?”
“No, Gideon, go right ahead,” I replied to him as he walked away.
Jemma shuddered. “Are all the hunters that creepy?” She asked.
I laughed. “Yes.” I kissed her hand. “Are you hungry?”
She nodded. “Your pups are making themselves known by increasing my hunger.”
I clasped her hand and led her to the table on a raised platform. My parents and her parents were seated on either side. There were two thrones in the center of the table. I helped her sit and then sat beside her. Food was brought out to us, and I watched as she dug right into the huge slab of prime rib with potatoes and asparagus. “You are hungry, love.”
She nodded, “I swear since yesterday I feel like I can’t get enough to eat.”
“I told you, dear. Twin alpha pups of the royal line will take a lot out of you,” Her mother Melinda said to her.”
“I know, Mom. I remember.”
‘Cass,’ I heard my beta’s voice through the mind link.
I looked up to see him standing on the other side of the room with MAria and my head warrior Ward, ‘What is it, Deke?’
‘We have the information you will want to hear,’ He replied, and I sighed.
I looked over at Jemma. She was talking to her mother about pregnancy stuff. “Jemma,” I nudged her gently. She turned her attention to me. “I have to go talk to Deke and Maria real quick.”
Her eyes narrowed with a look of concern. “Is everything alright?”
“I’m going to replace out. You stay here and finish your meal. I’ll be back.” I stood up and walked away without another word. I saw my father staring at me. ‘Everything is alright, Dad.’
‘Is it about Felix?’
I reached where Deke and Maria were standing. I ushered them into the hall. “Talk to me.”
Deke looked at Maria. “We found Felix’s mate or whatever you want to call her chanting in the garden. She ran off before we could get to her. I only hope she didn’t finish whatever spell she was trying.”
I growled lowly. “I’ll ask Tuatha if he suspects anything. Anything else?”
“All of his people appear to check out,” Maria responded, “But that doesn’t mean I am going to stop keeping an eye on them.”
“Good, I am going back in. You guys keep on it. Sorry, you have to miss the ball.”
Maria snorted, “Like I am into this sort of thing.”
I patted her arm. “Keep up the good work, Maria.” I headed back into the ballroom. I spied Tuatha at a table with King Romulus and his queen. “Tuatha, if I may have a word with you?”
The wizard looked up and trained his golden eyes on me. “You may,” He stood up, and we walked to a more secluded part of the ballroom.
“Have you detected any magic being used around us? My people spied the witch mate of my cousin Felix doing something in the garden.”
He shook his head. “Not from in here. I can go out there and see if I sense anything.”
“Please, I would appreciate it. Also, is it possible for a spellcaster to project dreams into someone else?”
He nodded, “Its possible. Quite easy actually.”
I sighed heavily.
“You seem distressed about something, King Cassius.”
“Someone has been projecting dreams to my queen. She has become quite disturbed by them.”
He looked towards my cousin. Felix was sitting at a table with the raven-haired woman at his side. Tuatha made a low, almost growl sound. “The woman, your cousin, is sitting with is named Felicia Hex. She is a low-level witch. I have had trouble with her family for years. I will go to the garden.”
“I’ll have my beta meet you out there. He’ll describe what he saw.” I explained to the wizard. He nodded and then disappeared. I sighed. ‘Deke, can you meet Tuatha in the garden and tell him what you saw.’
‘Yes, Cass.’ My beta replied.
I walked back to the table and sat down, and drank some wine. My father leaned towards me. “And?”
“I’ll tell you later,” I replied to him. I ate some food though I had lost my appetite. I found my cousin staring at me from across the room. A smug smile plastered on his rat-like face. ‘Can we kill the bastard?’ Enoch growled in my head.
‘Oh Enoch, I would love nothing more than ripping his worthless head off his body.’
When we were finished eating, I looked at Jemma as my father walked onto the stage set up with a small orchestra. He picked up the microphone. “It is my great privilege as your former king to welcome our newest queen. My beautiful new daughter-in-law Jemma.” He smiled towards us. “Let us all watch my son, and his queen share the first dance of the night.”
I clasped her hand, and we rose from our seats. I guided her to the dancefloor as the orchestra began to play. I guided her around the floor as the lights lowered and we were in the spotlight. I momentarily forgot the troubles with Felix as I looked into her violet eyes. “You are glowing, my love,” I whispered to her.
“That’s just the pregnancy,” She replied.
“No, love. You are truly glowing. You are the brightest light in this room.”
She laughed. “My king is so sappy.”
“Guilty,” I chuckled as others joined us on the dance floor. Someone tapped her shoulder, and she turned to her father. I allowed them to have the next dance. I danced with my mother as my father danced with my sister. For a few minutes, at least, it was a happy scene as two families came together. I danced with my sister, Jemma’s sister, and then Jemma’s mother.
“Cassius, I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see how happy you have made my daughter,” Melinda said to me.
“Her happiness is the most important thing to me, Melinda,” I smiled at my mother-in-law.
“I can see that.” She squeezed my hand, “I have never seen a male wolf look at his mate with more love than the way you look at Jemma.”
“She is my everything, Melinda.”
She hugged me. “I can’t wait to meet your pups.”
I leaned down and kissed her cheek.
We sat at the table again after dancing. Jemma was fanning herself with her hands. “Are you hot, love?”
She nodded. “This gown is like a sauna.”
“Want to step outside for a bit?”
“Can we?”
I grabbed her hand and pulled her to her feet. I gently pulled her to the balcony. We walked out and looked over the garden. Tuatha and Deke hadn’t reported back to me yet. I sighed as I leaned my hands on the railing. Jemma’s hand covered mine. We stood silently as the sun faded into the horizon and the stars came out.
I heard laughing behind us and turned to see my cousin standing at the doorway. “Oh cousin, were you not going to introduce me to your queen?” His snake-like voice slithered out.
“Haven’t you already introduced yourself, Felix?” I sneered at him.
He stepped towards us. The snake, unfortunately, resembled me: light brown hair though and duller blue eyes. But one could see we were related. I hated it. “I have no idea what you are talking about.” Of course, he would deny it. He held out a hand to Jemma. “Felix Wellington, Cassius’s cousin and rightful king of Lycanis.”
Jemma narrowed her eyes at him, “Rightful king, how so?”
“Well, Cassius needs to have an heir by the time he turns twenty-five-“
“Jokes on you, Felix,” I snarled at him, “Jemma is pregnant with my pups.”
Felix laughed. “Oh yes, I have heard, but I had also heard how promiscuous she was before she became your mate. Are you entirely sure that they are yours?”
My fists clenched as I growled, “Yes, they are mine.”
“They are Cassius’s pups,” Jemma growled at him.
Felix looked at his hand, “Haven’t you two only been together? What is it, two weeks or so? And you Queen Jemma had no s*x in recently with anyone besides Cassius?”
I looked over as she bit her l*p and looked at the ground. “I had s*x the night before the mating ball.”
“Hmm,” Felix lifted an eyebrow at me. “Sounds like a paternity test may be needed.”
“No,” I growled, “Those are my pups. No one else’s. I would know if they weren’t mine.”
“I still think I may request a test.”
‘Let’s kill him.’ Enoch was trying to push himself forward. “That’s not happening, Felix. We will have to wait at least two months for the test, and it’s risky to Jemma and the pups.”
He shrugged. “I was just helping. It would be too bad if they come out, and it’s discovered they aren’t yours.”
“Give it up, cousin, “I hissed the last part. “You are not getting the crown.”
“We’ll see about that. I must go replace my companion.” He started to walk away from us before he turned back. “Sweet dreams, Jemma.” He winked at her.
With that, I launched myself at him and pinned him to the wall by the neck. “You son of a b***h!” I roared at him. “What are you doing to my mate?”
He laughed. “Nothing,” He struggled under my hold. “I was just having some fun with her. Or at least Felicia was.”
I tightened my grip on him. Enoch was still trying to push himself forward. “I should rip you to pieces right here, “I hissed.
Felix smirked. “Do it, Cassius.”
I felt someone trying to pull my arm off of Felix, “Let him go, Cassius,” My father said to me. “This piece of s**t isn’t worth it.”
“Oh, very nice, Uncle Terrance,” Felix looked at my father while turning red.
I let go of my cousin, and he fell to the ground. He got up and dusted off his suit. He smirked again. “Goodnight Cassius, Terrance. I will be seeking that paternity test.”
I growled loudly as he walked away. My father had to restrain me. “Dad, he can’t do that, can he?”
“I don’t think he can, Cassius. He would have to convince all of the elders.”
“I know those are my pups,” I looked at Jemma and held her hands. “Enoch would know if they weren’t his.”
My wolf growled in my head, ‘Those are my pups, Cassius.’
We were joined on the balcony by Tuatha and Deke. I looked at the wizard and my beta. “So?”
Tuatha stepped towards me. “I detected some magic had been used in the garden. But unfortunately, not even I was able to figure out what spells and to what use it was for.”
I sighed at him, “Deke, do you have anything to add?” My beta shook his head.
“Your majesty, I am, and some of my coven members are willing to stick around here after the ball and for a few days to keep an eye out for any magic.” The wizard offered.
“I would greatly appreciate that, Tuatha,” I replied to him. “I will make sure you have full access to the palace to work.”
He nodded. “Your father has helped me greatly in the past, and I would like to return the favor. Your queen and pups are far too important to our collective future.”
Jemma smiled at him.
“You have an older pup, your majesty?” Tuatha asked her.
“Yes, I have a three-year-old son.”
The wizard smiled. “Ah yes, he too shall play a role in securing our future.” He bowed before us. “I must go to my room and prepare some things. I bid you both good night.” He said before disappearing.
Jemma and I stood looking at each other for a moment. I could sense how tired she was. “Love, are you ready to leave the ball?”
“I thought we had to stay all night?”
I shrugged, “You are pregnant. They will understand. You and the pups matter more than a ball.”
She sighed.
“Your mother and I will take care of things down here, son.” My father patted my back.
“Thanks, Dad.” I held out my hand to my queen, “Come, darling.”
“I want to say goodnight to my family first.”
“Okay.”
After Jemma said goodnight to her family and mine, we headed upstairs to our room. She collapsed on the bed in a heap. I helped her undress, and then I got undressed, and we went into the bathroom for a shower. We just washed each other. Both too exhausted for s*x. She put on a robe and went to check on her son in the room next door. A nanny had been watching him during the ball, but Jemma still had to say goodnight to her pup.
I sat on one of the couches and leaned my head back. My eyes fluttered closed as my brain went over tonight’s events. I knew my cousin was going to do whatever he could to win the crown. I had to convince the elders that the pups Jemma was carrying were mine. I knew in my soul that they were mine. There was no doubt about it. A male wolf knows his offspring from the beginning. Enoch wouldn’t lie to me about their paternity. The door opened, and Jemma stepped in.
“I had read his favorite story to him three times before he would go to sleep,” She sat beside me on the couch and grabbed my hand. “I’m worried about this paternity test.”
“That test is not going to happen, Jemma,” I growled lowly. “Those are my pups.”
“But, if Felix-“
“Felix is a f*****g moron. He will not win!” I shouted.
She shrank away from me. I hated making her afraid. “I’m sorry that my previous life provides doubt.”
“There are no doubts, Jemma,” I argued.
She sighed and got up from the couch. She walked into the bathroom. I followed her in, and she was sitting on the edge of the tub, rubbing her eyes as tears fell from them. “I am sorry I was such a slut. I was just having fun.”
I picked her up and held her against my chest, “Jemma, you were not a slut.” I soothed her. “Please, don’t cry,” She sobbed into my chest as I ran my hand up and down her back. “We both stupid things in our pasts. I am no chaste virgin myself. I know you had s*x the night before the mating ball. But I don’t hold it against you.”
She took a deep breath and stopped sobbing. “Cassius,” Her voice was low as it was clear she was falling asleep in my arms. I picked her up bridal style.
“Let’s not talk about this anymore tonight, love. You need sleep.” I placed her on the bed and covered her with the blankets. I kissed her on the lips as I sat beside her. My hand rested on her belly. I lowered my face to her soft skin and took a deep breath. “Hello, pups.” I smiled up at her as she ran her hand through my hair. “Definitely mine.” Her eyes grew heavy as I traced my hand in circles on her stomach. Soon her breathing evened out, and she was softly snoring. I kissed her belly. “Goodnight, pups.” I kissed her soft lips and rose from the bed. I made myself a drink from the small bar next to the tv. I sipped on whiskey as I sat on the couch and propped up my feet. I just stared into the room as I listened to Jemma snoring on the bed. I was thinking of all of the ways I wanted to murder my cousin. I was also thinking of how we could avoid that paternity test. I also needed to know his plans so I could keep my family safe.
