Chapter 35: First Patrol

Isabella POV

I woke up the next morning feeling smug that I had beaten Alpha Drake In the fight. He’s a strong Alpha and most people fear him, the fact that I was able to knock him out is crazy. I guess that Royal b***d can really come in handy, I thought to myself.

I’m super excited that I get to join patrol, I hate sitting around doing nothing. I need to feel useful and I’m a strong warrior, patrol is exactly what I was born to do. I know Alpha Drake hates the idea, but he needs to realize I’m stronger than he gives me credit for.

I got out of bed and headed for the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and washed my face before I got dressed in a pair of leggings and a blue tank top.

Once I was dressed I headed to the training field. I was looking forward to training today, knowing that my skills would finally be put to use with me joining patrol.

Once I got there I met up with Clair and Jared who were showing way to much PDA, as usual.

“Can you guys get a room?” I asked while rolling my eyes.

“Umm, sorry but when you replace your mate you’ll understands.” Clair replied with a smile.

“Nope, you guys make me nauseous.” I replied and they both chuckled.

“Can we just start training?” I asked annoyed.

“You really need to get laid, you know that? Your turning into a real grump.” Clair said while shaking her head and I just rolled my eyes at her.

“Alright warriors, pair up.” I heard Alpha Drake’s voice announce.

“Isabella, your with me.” He said, pointing to mat where we would train together. I was frozen with surprise, Is this him trying to get back at me for kicking his a*s yesterday?

I hesitantly made my way over to the mat where Alpha Drake was waiting. Everyone else started to train.

“Your joining patrol tonight at 7:00pm meet your patrol team by the gates at 6:45pm.” Alpha Drake said with a serious tone.

I was nervous for some reason, not because I would be joining patrol, but because of how serious Alpha Drake sounded, so I just nodded my head in acknowledgement.

“Isabella, I know you don’t understand me, but please know that I just want you safe.” He said and I could see the concern and desperation in his eyes.

“I know you keep saying that, but I don’t understand, why?” I asked him with a confused look.

He closed his eyes, clearly having an internal battle with himself before he opened them again.

“I promised your father Isabella, I keep my promises.” He replied and I rolled my eyes.

“Well Alpha, I don’t need your protection, I think I proved that yesterday.” I said with a smirk and he looked irritated.

“You’ll be teamed up with Erik and Jared for your patrol shift.” He said while watching my face for a reaction, knowing I wouldn’t like what he said.

“Seriously? Why the hell would I be assigned your Beta and Gamma to do patrol?“ I asked, irritation clear in my voice while crossing my arms over my chest.

“Well if you don’t like it, I can take you off the patrol schedule.” He shot back at me.

“Nope, it’s fine. I’m still going on patrol” I said firmly while glaring at him.

“I really don’t understand why your so stubborn, Isabella.” He said while shaking his head in frustration.

“Listen Alpha, I’m a strong warrior, I can’t sit around and waste my skills just because some Rogue Alpha wants to kidnap me. Let him try, I’ll make sure he meets the same fate as Derek did.” I replied with anger lacing my words.

“I’m just worried Isabella.” He said softly and I could see the concern and sincerity in his eyes

“Don’t, damn it! I’m strong and I hate how everyone keeps underestimated my abilities.” I spat back, irritated that he doesn’t think I can protect myself.

“I know your strong Isabella, I just don’t know what I would do if something happened to you.” He said softly with his eyes closed.

“I don’t understand why your so invested in me?” I asked confused with his words. He didn’t answer me for a few minutes, he looked conflicted, like he wanted to say more.

“I want you safe, that’s all. Don’t read into it.” He said firmly, his voice changing from soft to irritated. I rolled my eyes, sick of this back and forth conversation.

“You know your infuriating, right? All I want is for you to show me the same respect you show the rest of your warriors, I think I earned that when I won the fight.” I spat angrily my arms were still crossed over my chest.

“Ok.” Is all he said, I could see how defeated he looked.

“Thank you.” I practically whispered, shocked that he gave in and wasn’t going to argue with me anymore.

Once we were done arguing we started training, we both remained silent for the rest of the session. I could see how conflicted he was. He wasn’t fighting like he normally would, he was making simple mistakes that I know he would normally never make.

Once training was over I met up with Clair and we walked back to the pack house. We went to the dinner hall and grabbed some breakfast before sitting down at a table.

“So, I heard you start patrol tonight.” Clair said excitedly.

“Ya, Alpha Drake really doesn’t want me to, but since I won the fight he can’t stop me.” I replied.

“I figured as much, I think the Alpha might have a little crush on you.” Clair teased while wiggling her eyebrows up and down.

“Shut up! He said it’s because he promised my father he would protect me and he always keeps his promises.” I replied rolling my eyes as I repeat his lame excuse for being protective.

“Whatever, I still think he has a thing for you.” She replied with a smirk. I just shook my head at her assumption.

We finished eating and got up to leave the dinner hall.

“Im going to head back to my room and rest, my shift starts at 7:00pm so I’ll be on patrol all night.” I told Clair.

“Oh I know, thanks to your protective boyfriend, I’ll be sleeping alone tonight while Jared is out there patrolling with you.” Clair said with an eye roll and I chuckled.

“Sorry about that, maybe after a few shifts Alpha Drake will calm down a little and realize I don’t need his Gamma and Beta to protect me.” I replied while shaking my head.

“Doubt it. See ya later.” Clair said while walking off towards her room. I smiled at her and headed for my own room.

Once in my room I climbed into bed and set my alarm. There was no way I was going to be late for my first patrol shift.

I laid in bed and couldn’t help but think about my conversation with Clair. Does Alpha Drake have a crush on me? It’s not like I’m his mate, he’s old enough to recognize his mate so he would of know if I was. Maybe he’s just attracted to stubborn she-wolves. It’s probably the challenge of making me submit that has him interested in me.

‘I’m ok with Alpha Drake having a crush on us, he’s hot as hell and you remember what he did to our body the other night’ Bri said practically purring at the thought.

‘Ya that was pretty good, he definitely beats Bob’ I replied with a chuckle.

‘I would be ok with Alpha Drake as our mate.’ Bri said with a dreamy voice.

‘He’s not, he would already know. Remember?’ I replied busting her little bubble. Bri huffed and retreated to the back of my mind.

I dozed off at some point because the next think I knew my alarm clock woke me up. I looked over seeing that it was 6:30pm. I got out of bed and went to the washroom to freshen up.

Once I was dressed and ready to go I headed out of the pack house and towards the gates to meet Erik and Jared.

“Hey trouble.” Erik greeted me with his classic smirk.

“Sorry I dragged you guys into my battle with Alpha Drake.” I said with a huff, glancing between Erik and Jared who were both leaning against the gates.

“It’s all good, I don’t mind patrol.” Jared replied shrugging his shoulders.

“Getting to watch you kick the Alpha’s a*s makes it all worth it.” Erik said with a chuckle and I smiled back at him.

“Alright lets shift to our wolves, but Isabella, you won’t be able to mind-link with us since your not officially part of the pack. Make sure you stay by our side.” Jared said while looking at me with a serious expression before continuing. “We all know the Alpha will have our heads if something happens to you.” He finished.

“I got it.” I said while walking off behind a tree. I took off my clothes and piled the neatly against the tree before shifting into my wolf.

Bri was excited to join patrol, gives her extra time to be in control.

Once I was shifted I joined Erik and Jared who were waiting in wolf form. Jared was a dark brown wolf and Erik was a dark grey colour.

They took off into the forest towards the border and I followed.

It felt so good to be out on patrol.

We spend the night walking the border. It was quiet and peaceful, the only light around was the moon shining above us.

The night went by without a hitch and as the sun started to rise we headed back towards the main gates.

Once we reached the gates, I went behind the same tree where my clothes were waiting and shifted back to my human form. I got dressed quickly and came out to meet Jared and Erik.

“Thanks for joining me guys, sorry it was such a boring night.” I said to Jared and Erik.

“Our pleasure Isabella, boring is how I like my patrol shifts.” Erik said jokingly and I chuckled.

“Good night, I’m going to grab a couple hours of sleep.” I told them before walking off towards the pack house.

Once I reached my room, I stripped my pants off and climbed into bed wearing only my tank top and underwear.

I felt satisfied with my first patrol shift complete. It was a boring one, but maybe now Alpha Drake will realize that nothings is going to happen to me. Maybe he’ll even stop being so over protective.

I was exhausted, It didn’t take long before I fell asleep.
