The Alpha’s Mute Mate -
Episode 14
BROOKE
I moved my hand slowly towards the giant wolf; I wanted to pet him. He did, after all, look after me through the night.
But a sudden thought came to mind. What did Sophia mean Hudson would kill Aubrey? He doesn’t even know me.
I had loads of questions running around in my head.
I slowly move towards Asher, as he places his head on the bed. I put my hand on top of his head, he’s massive, and my small hand looks weird against his fur. I smoothed his coat, which was soft to the touch; I could tell he liked it as his tail was wagging; actually, it wagged a lot.
I keep doing this for a while till I see out of the corner of my eye the door open again to replace Sophia and another girl who looks like her staring back at me.
She looked at me, then at the wolf. “I think Asher needs to run now,” she says, with a blank expression on his face as he turns to look at her.
Asher looks at me and then stands up.
I forgot how big he was, and he moved towards the door and left.
The girl shuts the door and looks at me. “Hi Brooke,” she says, “I’m Daisy.”
I looked back at her but didn’t do anything. I move my eyes to Sophia, who just placed a tray full of food. “I didn’t know what you liked, so I grabbed everything,” she says as she moves the tray into the middle of the table.
I stared at the food, but I could still feel Daisy’s eyes on me.
I stared at her, then back at Sophia.
“Brooke, do you remember me?” blurts Daisy.
I stared blankly at her but shook my head. I can honestly say I can’t remember her or anyone from this pack.
Her face looks hurt, but she recovers quickly when she realizes that I was looking at her, “it’s ok, I have some photos to show you; maybe they will help you remember,” she says and smiles at me.
I give a small smile back, trying not to be scared of everyone.
I looked at the food, removed the covers, and slid over to the bed’s side. I slowly got up and walked over to the table where the tray was. There is a whole load of food, my stomach growls, but I know I can’t eat all that.
“It’s ok Brooke, only eat what you can,” says Sophia. I glanced at her, but she was giving me a knowing smile.
I smile, move from the bed, and walk over to the table. I sat down, grabbed a few items, and ate some food.
I couldn’t help but watch what Sophia and Daisy were doing. Sophia goes to the wardrobe and gets out some clothes, and she looks at me. “I think you should wear a dress, what do you think?”
I stare back at her. I haven’t worn a dress in so long. Well, not since I was a little girl. My mother would always put me in dresses when I was a child.
I could feel Sophia’s eyes on me as she stared at me, looking confused. “You don’t have to; I just thought you would like to wear something more comfortable. Your stitches might be OK with coming out too, the ones on your leg, I mean.”
I looked down at my leg, and I could feel the stitches through my leggings. I can’t believe I did it, just from cutting myself on the glass when I jumped out of the window.
“It’s ok; we will sort it out later, mum. I think Brooke just wants to have some food,” says Daisy, sensing my discomfort.
I couldn’t help but look at her.
She was sitting on the bed with her leg over her other one. I couldn’t help but smile back at her.
“Ok, I will leave you both to it. Daisy will stay with you and show you around. The grand tour, if you will, but if you want to come downstairs, we will all be there waiting for you,” says Sophia with a hopeful smile on her face.
She looks toward Daisy for a moment but turns and leaves.
After a few moments, I heard movements from the bed and glanced over to see Daisy get up and walk toward a chair. She takes the chair next to me and grabs some food to eat. We ate in silence, with Daisy looking at me every so often.
I wanted to talk to her, but having no voice, it would be so hard and I didn’t want to write in the notebook, well not when I was having food.
After a few minutes, I could only manage a few bites. “Have you finished?” Daisy asked, looking at my plate.
I turned to stare at her and nodded.
“Ok, I will put the shower on, and you can get freshened up,” she says as she moves from the chair.
She walks into the bathroom.
I got up from where I was sitting to grab the notebook and pen.
I could hear the water run and hear Daisy’s movements. She steps back into the room, and she smiles at me.
I write in the notebook…
“Thank you Daisy, and I’m sorry for being confused. I can’t remember much from before my mother’s death, only since my dad left me with Aubrey, and due to what happened to me there, I can’t remember much of anything due to the beatings.”
I had to stop, and I could hear a growl slip through her lips, and I knew what part she had just read, but she didn’t look back; she carried on. “You will have to give me time, but I would love to see your photos, ” I wrote.
Daisy looks up from the notebook, her eyes shining with happiness. “No worries Brooke, we will help you get them back,” she says and sits back on the bed.
“You go in the shower; I will wait here for you,” she says. I moved away from the table and walked toward the bathroom. I headed to the shower. “Oh, Brooke, take all the time you need; the shower is amazing.”
I looked over my shoulder as I got to the door and smiled at her.
This was going to be the first shower I ever took.
