UNKNOWN

They all stared at me.

They have been trying to protect my human.

I’m here now.

I will protect her.

Brooke hasn’t got a voice, but I will be her voice.

“Who are you?” asks Hudson.

I looked back at him. He is our mate.

“Shocked to hear me mate,” I said.

“No, but you’re not Brooke. Who are you?” he says, looking confused but turning his head to Jackson. “Did you know?” But he’s white as a sheet and looks more confused than our mate does, which is amusing to me.

Everyone is silent but looking at me, stunned looks on their faces as they are trying to figure out who or what I am, some sniffing the air to pick up a scent, but we won’t have one.

I can feel Brooke, and I know she is watching. She didn’t know I was here only moments ago; I had been in hiding and holding on. That fatal night that took her mother, I saved her with the little power I had, which made her not have a voice anymore. I was so young and stupid, but I’m her protector, her counterpart. Her mother should have told her what we were, but she was too young to understand, and I know she certainly didn’t tell that i***t of a mate what we were.

“I am something that saved Brooke back when that rogue attacked her. I’m her counterpart, shifter part,” I said.

Hudson scrunches his eyebrows together. “What shifter are you? You have no scent; the only scent I smell is Brooke,” he says with some frustration in his voice.

I sighed. “The thing is…..I can’t tell you what I am just yet. I wasn’t supposed to be here, but I could feel Brooke, scared to death in fear of that stupid she-wolf earlier. But I have been around more times when she needed me. You have no idea what that woman did to her, what both of them did to her,” I said with a hiss.

“Why can’t you tell us what you are?” says the girl Brooke was standing next to. I like her. She is lovely and feisty too; they were really good friends in the past.

“I can’t just yet, but I have a name; my name is Willow,” I said. “Oh, and don’t bother asking Brooke; she doesn’t even know what I am either.”

“Can she talk to you or sense you?” asked Hudson, he still trying to figure out, poor mate. I could feel his wolf trying to connect with me, but I blocked him. I think they will be shocked at what I am. Well, what Brooke and I are. As much as I want my mate, I have to wait.

“She can sense me a few times, but she put it down to her mind playing tricks with her. She can speak to me too,” I say, which startles them.

“How can she talk to you? Why can’t she talk to us?” he asks with a whisper. It must kill him that he couldn’t hear her voice.

I sighed, sensing Brooke being there. She isn’t afraid of me. She knows I am her savior and protector, but she needs to hear this too.

“You see, I was not supposed to be there when that rogue killed her mother, but I could feel her slipping away. I had to help her. I helped, but her voice box was too badly damaged to save. I couldn’t help her gain that back,” I said.

I looked at everyone. “I used my own voice box to talk, I had enough power to help her, but I kept her alive till you came. She was more alive when you touched her,” I said, now looking at our mate. “I knew you were our mate back then, and I knew you would protect her. You loved her.”

But my attention turned to the stupid father. “And you,” I glared at him, making him quiver in shame, “You didn’t protect her; you left her in their hands. Why?” I shouted. “You do realize your daughter feels rejected by you.”

He looks at me with sadness in his eyes. “I was in a bad place, and I didn’t want to leave…..Aubrey made it hard for me……I…….” he says, stumbling over his words.

I hissed at him, “So many lies, so many to choose from.” I closed my eyes and pulled Brooke back to the front.

BROOKE

I opened my eyes to see everyone staring at me.

“Brooke,” whispered Hudson.

I look at him, he takes a step closer to me, but I step back, making him stop.

“He is our mate Brooke,” says Willow in my head.

“So you were there all this time,” I asked. I can feel her smile. “I have, not all the time. All the times they hurt you, I was present. I tried to take some pain away, but they were torturing you many times. I had to watch you suffer.”

I can feel her guilt. “You couldn’t help me all the time, but I am glad you are here with me now. Even though I don’t know much or anything about you,” I said.

She seems happy with that; she looks at everyone through my eyes. “They all care about you, Brooke, even the two alpha’s that have come for that stupid she-wolf.”

“Do you know why I can’t remember much from that night or being here?” I suddenly remember Sophia asking me how Hudson and Daisy looked at me, as if they knew me.

She looks at them both. “I don’t know; you did lose a lot of b***d that night, Brooke. I think there might be some trauma you had from that night. You have been abused for years, you need time to heal, and I will help,” she says with a smile. “By the way, our mate is looking pretty hot.”

I blush at her words, taking in everyone around me. Some have been watching me. “You were talking to Willow,” says Daisy.

I looked at her and smiled, nodding.

“Your one eye goes black when she comes closer while the other stays blue,” she says. “It’s a little scary but so cool.” She lets a little laugh slip through.

I look at Hudson, who is smiling back at me. “I agree with Daisy; it looks cool,” he says with a grin.

I smile. He comes closer to me, only a few feet away. “I’m Hudson,” he says to me.

I nodded. “I know,” I mouthed to him.

He chuckles. “I know you don’t remember me, but I hope I can work on that,” he says.

I smiled and nodded. I wish I had my notebook to write in.

Sophia looks at me and smirks. “I think you were looking for this,” she says as she approaches me, handing me my notebook. The page shown was a sketch of Asher.

I look at it. He seems so familiar, I mean, when I look at Hudson.

“Asher is Hudson Wolf; he is a werewolf, Brooke,” says Willow.

I looked at him in shock, fear coming through, but she continued, “Don’t panic; his wolf loves you. He won’t hurt you. He will protect us, Brooke.”

Sensing something within me, Hudson looked at me with a little worry coming through his eyes. I looked at the sketch once again but turned it around. “Asher,” I mouthed, showing him the drawing. “He……you……..I mean werewolf,” I said, mouthing the words to him.

He looked at the sketch, and he smiled. “You drew this.” I looked at him but smiled. “It’s amazing, Brooke.”

“Asher is my wolf, and I am a werewolf. All of us here are werewolves,” he says, looking around at everyone standing around.

I look back at everyone standing around us, and I look at everyone in awe.

Willow giggles in my head. “They won’t hurt you; they like you. You are Hudson’s mate. He will be Alpha, and you will be his Luna,” she says.

“Luna, what’s a Luna?” I asked, looking back at her.

“Luna is the soulmate of an Alpha and his equal,” she says. “Sophia is a Luna, and Marcus is an Alpha. He is the Alpha of this pack,” she says.

I looked back at Hudson, who was watching me with awe. But I turned to Sophia. I move to a different page of my notebook and start writing.

I ripped the paper out and handed it to Sophia; It read, “You are a Luna, why didn’t you say. I would have called you Luna Sophia. Willow just explained to me.”

She looks back at me and smiles. “I would never ask you to call me Luna, Brooke,” she says. “You don’t need to, and I’m here for you.”

I smiled and mouthed, “Thank you, Luna.”

She laughs.

Hudson is looking between us with a weird look on his face I look at him, but I look back at the wolf sketch I drew. I pulled the paper back and turned it over. I write on the back. He looks at me, wondering what the hell I’m doing.

Willow comes closer and sees what I’m writing. “That’s sweet, Brooke,” she says, and I smile.

I handed him the sketch and walked over to my father.

I need to talk to him.

“Willow, I need to replace out stuff. Can you be close by if I need you to say things to them?” she looks at me and smiles. “It would be my honor, Brooke.”

I handed Hudson the piece of paper and smiled.

I know he has read what I wrote. Daisy laughs, but I don’t turn around.

I walked over to my dad, standing with the woman he left me for.

“She is his second chance mate,” says Willow, sounding weird, looking at both of them.

My father looks at me, stunned but recovers. “Brooke,” he says.

I looked at him. “Can we talk?” I mouthed to him. He looks at me in shock, but it’s the woman who says, “I will leave you both to talk.”

I looked at her and shook my head. I grabbed my notebook and pen and began to write.

I handed them the book, and they both read the message. “No, I want to talk to both of you. We need to clear the air.”

My father smiles and nods at me. So does the woman.

She holds her hand out to me. “I’m Alanna,” she says. I shake her hand and smile.

We walked to the forest clearing; there were no other people around. Everyone has left to do whatever, even though I can sense someone’s eyes on me.
