The Alpha’s Mute Mate -
Episode 40
HUDSON
I walk through my door.
I pull out the letter from my pocket.
I throw it on my bed; I go straight in the shower to wash all the dry b***d off. It is starting to go hard on my skin.
After an hour of washing myself, the towel dries me off and I slip my sweat pants on heading to the bedroom only to be greeted by Amy.
She is sitting on my bed with the letter in her hand, she looks up at me but before I can say anything, she slaps my face. Hard.
I look at her, she glares back at me “You’re an a*****e” she says through gritted teeth.
I don’t say a word.
“Why me?” she says “what did I do to help you see that humans are not weak?”
She stares at me.
I’m rooted to the spot.
I sigh and make my way over to the chair by the window and sit.
I glance up at her “You taught me not all humans are weak but I thought at the time it was because you came from werewolves and you had trained with them.”
“You knew I never trained, I looked after the children there. What makes me different from Brooke?” she says flatly.
“I got to know you; I started to realize that you were different from the other humans I knew. I thought Brooke was weak and fragile due to the way she looked, her scent wasn’t strong at the time” I said “you showed me that loving someone without a bond, I didn’t want to lose that but when I left, I thought I would help get Brooke back, I was going to reject her and come back to you for you to be my mate but when I got there, her scent was very strong, and Asher was all over it. He knew she was definitely our mate, I still had the same intention when I went to the hospital till I saw her, laying in that bed all scared and everything.”
I look at her “I was amazed at her; she was not the same girl I remembered. She was a lot like a woman not a child. Over the month when she slept, I started to like and feel more for her. I thought that fate had given me a second chance with her” I said.
“And what did you think about me afterwards,” she says in the same flat tone she gave me before.
I looked at her with a small smile “I never thought about you again. I knew that I wanted my mate.”
She stares at me for a moment and then looks back at the letter in her hand.
“I met Shane the day you left to help your father, he came to the pack house for a treaty with his alpha. I fell for him hard. We went on dates and then I told him about Rex and the baby, also about you too” she says, not looking at me.
“He was angry at first but once I explained everything about what we agreed and what I did to survive everything, we had to learn to heal. He helped me to heal Hudson” she says.
“I did have feelings for you too but I knew my mate was out there and it wasn’t you. I kept myself grounded” she says and looked up at me “Hudson, Brooke is going to need you.”
I look back at her and smile “I know but I don’t think she will want to see me” I said with sadness forming “I hurt her by falling for you and rejecting her all those years ago.”
She looks at me and doesn’t say anything.
I can feel Asher come closer “She is right we need mate,” he says suddenly.
“We will figure it out Asher,” I said but he goes quiet but suddenly “I’m sorry Hudson, I should not have been a horny dog, I should have been more focused on our mate,” he says in a sorrowful voice.
“Asher, you have nothing to apologize for,” I say “I was a mess with the whole stupid believes I had.”
After a moment “There is something else though” he says “That first time we saw our mate, when we were with that slut. Mate scent was not like it was the second time, it smelled like vanilla but it was very faint”
I frown.
While I have been talking to Asher, Amy was staring at me but the frown on my face made her question “What’s wrong? What did Asher say?” she says, looking at me.
I glance at her with an arched eyebrow but soon realize something has been up with this whole thing “Asher mentioned the first time when we met Brooke, her scent was faint not as powerful like it was the second time around, it smelled off like something was keeping it at bay.”
“Do you think Willow hid her scent?” she asks.
“I don’t think so; Willow said the first time around that her magic was resting as she couldn’t use it probably after healing Brooke from that rogue attack when she was young.”
She goes quiet but looks up at me “They must use some sort of drug on her, something like they use on wolves when they can’t change like wolfs bane”
That could be right, something to weaken her senses.
But something came back to me, I remembered what Aubrey said.
I let another frown slide on my face, which she notices.
“What else?” she asks “I know when something is troubling you, you make this funny face when you trying to work it out on your own.”
I chuckle but there is a knock at the door, Rex and Shane walk in.
Shane walks over to Amy and slides his arm around her waist. He truly loves her.
“What are the two talking about?” he asks, looking between the both of us.
Before I can say anything, Amy tells him everything that we talked about, everything that we just talked about and I mean everything.
Rex looks at me “What else is wrong?” he says, Shane looks at me. But he stays quiet.
“Aubrey mentioned something about a traitor in the pack, someone who has been feeding them information about us, I mean everything about us,” I say.
“Do you believe what she said?” asks Shane suddenly.
“Why would she lie? She was not pleading for her life though” I say but something was off about the attack “But something was off, the attack. There were three wolves and her; she was not even a wolf, just a human. Why send a human in?” I ask them.
“Maybe she was meeting whoever it was in the pack?” says a voice by the door.
I look up to see Daisy leaning against the door, Rex looks at her.
“I think you were never meant to go in that direction, where you come from and where the guards patrol, that part was free for at least four hours before they checked it” she says walking in and sitting on the bed.
I look at her but she doesn’t look back, she turns to Amy “I think we all need to get some rest and also talk to our parents about things” she says as she gets back up and walks out but turns her attention to Amy again “I think we need to talk, don’t you?”
