SHAWNA’S POV: So, You Don’t Want to Take a Break?

“Hey. So. You. Don’t. Want. To. Take. A. Break.” I said, breathing hard as I dodged another shot and took another swing with my knife. I feel like I’m close to death, not from this b***h but from the fact that my a*s is literally hyperventilating. The babies are getting tired and more than likely hungry. But with Ji’lahni gone, I don’t know what to do. My family is gone, and those babies need me. I thought with renewed energy which I know comes from anger, knowing that this b***h is the reason for me no longer having any family besides those babies. “You killed the only family I had left, and you will not be taking my cousin’s babies away from me you will have to kill me today.” I said between each swing of my knife. “I know damn well you didn’t think you could get rid of us that easy, we should feel insulted.” I heard from behind me just as an arrow whizzed past my face and nicked that b***h in the shoulder. She stumbled back in shock as I took that opportunity to run a short distance to them as they continued firing arrows and throwing stars at the crazy b***h.

I hugged Ji’lahni first and then Mina. After we hugged, Mina ran up to the b***h with her knives out. She was better at close knife fighting than I was. “OMG! You’re alive.” I yelled, crying, hugging Ji’lahni again as she shoots her crossbow at the b***h to give Mina an opportunity to strike. She got a few slices in on that b***h, and she was getting mad and bleeding. “Yea we’re alive and pissed.” Ji’lahni said. “The babies are by the tree, but this b***h is like some type of f*****g ninja cyborg. I can’t really fight her full on because.” I paused. “I took a pregnancy right before this s**t popped off and it was positive, I was coming to tell yall when all of this happened. I said quickly. “You’re What!” Ji’lahni yelled, as she fired another shot, but she barely missed Mina’s head, because my words shocked her. “Hey that’s my damn head.” Mina yelled as she took a swing. “My Bad!” Ji’lahni yelled and hugged me again. “Hey, I’m all for this f*****g family reunion and hugging s**t but we can do that after we kill this b***h. She is f*****g fast as hell, where the f**k is Lynn.” Mina yelled, dodging as best she could. “You go get my babies while we distract this wacko.” Ji’lahni said in a whisper, my eyes then looked in the direction of the babies and nodded.

I saw rogues coming out of the trees just as I got to the babies. “s**t, s**t, s**t!” I said as I used the babies’ blanket to wrap and tied them securely so I could carry them like a purse. All of a sudden I heard a loud grunt and then a thud I turned around and saw the crazy b***h has land a kick and punch both Ji’lahni and Mina, they hit the ground super hard. “Damn it, I told yall that b***h was a ninja.” I said to myself as I ran up on her a*s right when she was about to attack Ji’lahni again. I knocked her a*s on the back of the head with the handle of my knife. Which made the b***h tumble to the f*****g ground like a sack of potatoes. It didn’t knock her a*s out, but it did make her see birds flying around her head. I hit her one more time so I could check on Ji’lahni. They were sitting up groaning. “That b***h hits hard as hell,” Mina said, getting up. “Well, well, well, I have to thank you for wrapping the pups up all nice and neat for me it will be a lot easier to get them out of here.”

We all froze at the sound of the vilest bat s**t crazy wolf. “Zane!” we said at the same time. I grabbed that crazy b***h by the hair and punched her again, hoping like hell that she was important to Zane. My cousins went to surround him, trying to get close enough to attack. “You take one more step with our babies, and I will cut this bitches throat. Give my cousin her babies now!” I yelled at him. He glanced at his partner in crime and just shrugged his shoulders. “Do what you must, I have what I came here for, well, not everything.” He said and glanced at Ji’lahni. “You don’t think I can get you to come with us, huh? We can leave this place and finally be together. We can rule the whole entire shifter world. You can be my Luna queen and have my heir. I must admit I have not been able to think of anything else but you. I’ve missed you my mate.” He said lovingly like a damn schoolgirl. “You are a real loony toon out here in these woods.” Ji’lahni said. Trying to get closer to him. He doesn’t seem to notice or care. The b***h in my hand was starting to struggle. I pressed the knife harder on her throat. “Go right ahead and keep moving. Cut your own throat. I don’t think that would count as me killing you, so I’m good with the whole thou shalt not kill thing I feel like I would get a past either way.” I said, yanking her head back. Just then we all heard loud growls and howls and what could only be paws thumping the ground fast coming towards us and we all knew who it was. The Alpha and his warriors were coming in fast. We all visibly relaxed, but the look on Zane’s face was priceless. He realized that he had spent too much time trying to woe Ji’lahni. Now he was looking around at the small number of rogues he had left and you could tell he was getting desperate. He took off running and we all screamed, as Ji’lahni and Mina took off behind him. Lynn came barreling by me on top of a wolf looking like a warrior princess. But I couldn’t follow, because I couldn’t leave this crazy b***h alive so she could try and kidnap or kill us later. So I had to take care of this b***h once and for all. I can’t risk her coming back trying to take the babies again. Taking a deep breath, I slammed her head into the nearest tree. I never thought I would be able to kill without remorse, but when someone threatens your family and our babies there ain’t no guilt in me. I lifted my arm to swing, but I heard a loud growl of “NOO!” right before I could swing my knife someone grabbed my arm. “What the hell…” I trailed off as I turned and looked at the person who stopped me from killing this b***h.

It was Shadow who stood there frozen in place, his eyes on the crazy b***h with a shocked and dazed expression on his face. That’s when I heard her whisper, “Mate.” My eyes snapped to her, then back to Shadow because this must be a f*****g mistake. “Shadow what the…” I said in shocked disbelief, which finally got Shadow’s attention. But in his eyes all I saw was guilt and sorrow. “Shadow?” I whispered again, but before I could say or ask him anything, I felt a pinch right below my boob which hurt like a b***h. I winced and I looked down to see that crazy ding bat had a knife buried in my ribs just below my boobs. That’s when the real pain registered and the weakness from the b***d leaving my body in a rush, caused my knife to drop from my hand, then my legs to give out next. When my legs gave, that forced Shadow to have to hold me up in order to keep me from hitting the ground. He frowned, looking at me in confusion before looking down at the knife his mate still had buried in my rib cage, his eyes grew wide right before everything started to go dark. All I thought about right then was my baby. Oh god, my baby! I kept saying over and over in my head hoping it was coming out of my mouth, but I wasn’t sure because everything felt far away like I was being pulled into darkness. But right before everything went black, I could hear a loud growling “NO, NO, NO, NO!” as the darkness finally pulled me in completely.

Shadow’s Pov:

Once we killed the last of the rogues, we raced in the direction of the pups and the girls. Rane was feeling anxious about coming up to the girls. I saw Mina and Ji’lahni were circling Zane. Right before he turned and ran after hearing the Alpha’s warrior cry signaling he was heading this way, his pup and his mate. Lynn, who was on Blaze’s Wolf Thorn, raced past me to help the girls. “Alpha Zane is here, and he has the pups the girls are trying to trap him.” I mind linked. I heard another loud growl followed by our warrior howling. You could hear their paws beating the ground heading this way. Suddenly, that familiar scent came back stronger, and it was unmistaken. I could no longer ignore it. I knew who that scent belonged to, but it had to be a mistake. I shifted to my human form, immediately searching for the scent that I never thought I would smell again. My eyes landed on Shawna who had just slammed a small figure into a tree, and I knew instantly who it was “mate!” Rane howled in my head. I saw Shawna lift her arm that was holding a knife, and I reacted with only one thought, which was to protect my mate. I reached her just as she was about to swing. I caught her arm, “NO!” I yelled my eyes on the woman who was my mate. She was crying and afraid, begging for her life.

“Shadow?” I vaguely heard Shawna say, but my whole focus was on my mate who was crying and afraid. “Shadow!” I finally heard Shawna yell. I looked at her and I immediately felt guilt wash over me like a tycoon. “What the hel..” She trailed off when my mate uttered the word. “Mate.” Shawna paused and looked at her and then at me. “Shadow?…” She said again with a frown and looked down, then back at me before her knife dropped from her hand, and her body became heavy in my hand. I held her up easily. I frowned, wondering what was wrong. I looked down and saw my mate with a knife in her hand sticking out of Shawna’s rib cage. That’s when her body went completely limp. “NO NO NO! Baby please NO!” I roared angrily, as she looked at me trying to say something but only coughed out b***d, her eyes closing. “No No NO baby open your eyes please baby don’t do this to me please please Shawna.” I said as my eyes filled with tears. She opened her eyes again and whispered, “My baby.” Before her eyes closed and her head fell back. “What the hell happened Shadow?” Hunter said, coming up next to me. “I have to get Shawna to the clinic, take her and follow me to the clinic.” I said, nodding in the direction of my mate as I quickly picked Shawna up, careful not to move the knife that’s sticking out of her ribs.

I could still hear a heartbeat, but it was slowing down, which made me panic. I broke out into a run as the words she said before she went unconscious raced through my mind. “Doc are you at the clinic?” I mind linked. “Yes commander, what happened?” He responds. “Shawna was stabbed in the ribs have everything prepped and ready.” I said running as fast as I can. Rane wanted to shift because he could run faster. We were both confused that our mate was alive, and she just stabbed Shawna. “Shadow what the hell happened?” The alpha mind linked me. “I don’t know the details yet, but alpha, Scarlett is alive, she’s the one Shawna was chasing. When I got there, Shawna was about to kill her. I stopped her but I didn’t see Scarlett had pulled a knife and stabbed Shawna in the ribs.” I said with the fear of losing Shawna at the forefront of my mind. I burst through the clinic doors. The Doc was fully covered from head to toe.

I finally remembered that their b***d burnt us.When I looked down, I could see smoke coming from where Shawna’s b***d was falling on me, but I barely felt the pain through the panic and my focus was completely on Shawna’s heartbeat, which was slowing down as I placed her on the gurney, I kneeled next to her, and grabbed her hand which were now cold to the touch. “Commander, we need to get her to surgery she’s losing too much b***d.” The doc said as the nurses were trying to exit the room, I let go of her hand but stayed kneeling in the same spot. I was numb looking at all the bloody rags that lay around the room. I don’t know how long I stayed in that spot. “Shadow?” Hunter said, as he entered the room, he gasped when he saw all the bloody rags on the floor. “I brought the she wolf in, she’s in the room next door a nurse is checking her out.” He said quietly. “My mate.” I said, suddenly remembering that mate wasn’t dead and I needed answers. Where has she been all this time? And why the hell is she working with Zane?

I got up abruptly and followed the scent of my mate. I paused at the door as the nurse checked her out. The nurse turned and looked at me strangely, probably because I was covered in Shawna’s b***d. “What can I do for you commander?” The nurse asked. “Leave us.” I said, not taking my eyes off my mate. The nurse nodded and left the room. I stood watching her. She looked the same as she did when I first met her. She had light brown curly hair, dark brown eyes, she was more toned than she was back then. She looked afraid as she stared at me. “Scarlett, where have you been?” I asked, keeping my distance so I wouldn’t scare her. “I. I don’t know.” She said crying softly. ” Why the hell were you helping Zane?” I asked, confused as to why she didn’t come back to the pack if she survived the war. I remember that day like it was yesterday.

FLASHBACK!

“We need all the women and children escorted to the safe houses NOW!” The Alpha yelled. We were under attack. “Shadow, I’ll help get the children to the safe house. We’re closer to the school.” Scarlett said as she came forward and kissed me. I nodded and shifted. We tried to keep the fighting outside of the borders, but there were just too many wolves, and our allies hadn’t made it yet. Once they reach the borders, they immediately start attacking the women, children, and elderly wolves. “Shadow we’re surrounded. I have to get the pups to the safe house. I will have to fight to distract them while the pups run to the safe house.” Scarlett said via mind-linked. ” NO NO I’m coming, don’t you move Scar, just hold on.” I said as I finished off the wolf who thought he had chance. “Alpha, I have to get to my mate she’s trying to get some pups to the safe house. But they’re surrounded.” “Alright go get your mate and those pups to the safe house.” The alpha said via mind link. I raced to the school as fast as I could, but I was slowed down by wolves who attacked me. By the time I reached the school, all I saw was my mate being held by the throat and the wolf’s hand in her belly.

I felt the moment she died. Rane went berserk, killing everything in sight. I couldn’t control him because the pain of the bond breaking is like having your heart ripped out. After there were no wolves left to kill, Rane ran into the forest.

I can’t remember how long we were out there, we killed every rogue we came across. I thought we would have gotten killed or died from pain after a while , but it never happened. Eventually, Rane gave me back control and retreated to the back of my mind. He wasn’t feral nor a rogue, but we became a shell of our former selves, emotionless and dead inside.

That is until we met…End of Flashback.

Still staring at my mate, she seemed broken and battered. I wanted to hold her in my arms, but I couldn’t. “I feel that you are my mate, what is your name and who is Scarlett? She asked, confused. That’s when it clicked that my mate didn’t remember us. It made sense that there had to be how Zane was able to take advantage of her and use her to help him. I feel the mates bond, but it was something off and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is. Maybe it was because she has no memory of me, or us. “My name is Shadow. We were, I mean we are mates.

Do you not remember anything from your past?” I asked, finally moving close to her, sitting next to her. Shaking her head. “All I remember is waking up in a pack clinic. My master took me in and took care of me.” she said softly. “What did they tell you? Did they tell you anything about your past, your name, the name of your pack?” I asked and noticed that she was relaxing a bit and moving closer to me. Shaking her head again, “No, they told me they didn’t know where I was from, they found me in a rogues camp. I was beaten and stabbed. They took me to a pack clinic and took care of me. “I didn’t know my name, so I chose one. My name is Shaid. They said I was mumbling that while I was in a coma. I could never guess why I was mumbling that, but now I guess it makes sense I was calling for you.” She said as she straddled my lap.

Rane was happy about having our mate back. Inhaling her scent was like finally being able to breathe again, but something was off. I guessed because I didn’t immediately respond to her, she frowned.

“Do you not want me? Are you going to reject me?” she asked, trying to get off my lap. “No No! I just… It’s just that…” My words were cut short by the banging of the door opening hitting the wall, with 3 angry humans with a look in their eyes ready to kill. “I KNOW YOU f*****g LYING!” They said at the same damn time.
