The Alphas’ P**n Star Mate -
Chapter 72 – The Alphas’ Porn Star Mate
"Damn," Miles whistled low under his breath. "You were right."
I grinned proudly. "I've been watching her for the past few days. She should be in the elite class with you."
Miles was quiet for a moment, then asked, "Why isn't she?"
"Because you're a jackass," the annoying voice muttered.
I rolled my eyes, but he was right. "Me. I think she's being considerate of me."
Miles grew quiet again, staring at Chloe in that way that made guilt swell inside of me. He wanted her so badly, but was holding back too because of me. They both were.
"I won't bother me if she goes to your class," I said. "It won't bother me if she wants to spend time with you, or if you want to get closer to her."
"You sure about that?" Miles lifted a brow trustingly.
I shrugged. "She's your mate too."
"But you didn't want to share."
"Yeah, well," I looked down nervously, fiddling with a blade of grass. Stupid Rome. The parasitic worm got to me. "I have this little voice in my head telling me that she's supposed to be with both of us. I'm starting to think it's right."
"You have a voice in your head?" He looked at me like I was crazy.
"Figure of speech," I lied.
Miles sighed, picking at the grass too. He twirled a couple of pieces in his fingers and said, "She doesn't want to be a Luna though."
I scoffed. "She's already a Luna. Look at her," I said, nodding to her down on the field, talking to two girls that looked barely legal as they stared at her with warm expressions. It made me curious what they were talking about. Everyone in this pack was smitten with her, just like it was back at Broom StiXXX. She is thriving. I don't want to take her from this. Ever. "She belongs here."
Miles was watching her fondly, his eyes crinkling as she laughed at something one of the trainers said. "You really don't mind sharing?"
I shrugged. My feelings on the matter are still confusing, but I'm not against it. Not like before. "It's her you have to convince now. Not me."
Miles pressed his lips together, staring at her as he thought about everything. "Speaking of convincing her of things, did you talk to her about the security measures? The guards are waiting for their orders."
I laughed softly. "Yeah. I talked to her and she said a flat no. She wouldn't consider it for a second."
"She needs security, Mick. She needs to be protected."
"I agree, but she doesn't want it. I told you that you would have to be the one to convince her of that too."
"Why me?! You're already her mate."
"I'm already her mate, so I have no power over her, stupid. She is a handful when she doesn't agree with you about something. I was on the bad end of her temper for a year. It's your turn to be there for a bit." "She can't be that stubborn," Miles muttered.
"Oh, she is." Stubborn and a grudge holder. It's probably not fair of me to be putting this off on Miles completely, but I really can't stomach the possibility of making her mad for any reason. He's going to have to lay down the Alpha law with her, because as her mate, I can't. Training ended, and the warriors always do a brief run through the woods in wolf form before heading out. I considered joining the training with Chloe, but this part of it used to always make me feel like shit, so I've chosen to watch instead.
Chloe walked off to the nearest patch of forest with the rest of the women to strip before shifting. The men usually just wait until the women are done then shift right on the field. A minute later, they all take off into the forest together, howling and panting, letting their animal sides loose for a bit of exercise before they start the rest of their day.
I long for the ability to do that too. To give control to a deeper part of yourself that you can trust, letting them take the reins as you feel the wind in your hair and the power of your beast. The way my friends used to all talk about it when they first shifted, I always thought it would be a magical experience. Letting your inner animal free to become one with nature.
"How romantic," the voice in my head chose that moment to mutter.
"Shut up, you," I groaned.
"Hey, so our parents mentioned wanting you and Chloe to come over soon for dinner. I told them I would talk to you about it," Miles said, breaking me from my inner monologue with the parasite.
"No thanks," I groaned. Breakfasts are still awkward and tense. I don't want to suffer an entire dinner course alone with them, without the other pack members to help make the tension a little more tolerable.
"Nonna said not to take no for an answer," Miles smirked.
"Of course she did," I smiled too. "Nonna will be there?"
"She is going to be the one cooking."
"Mmh," I moaned, missing my Nonna's homemade pasta and her meatballs. Or her veal scallopini. Fuck, my mouth is watering already.
"Maybe," I murmured.
"No maybes. You know she won't let you miss out. She's probably already peeling potatoes and tenderizing chicken. Cooking for Chloe is a big deal for her."
"Okay, fine," I huffed. "I'll go. Let me talk to Chloe about it. When were they thinking?"
"Tomorrow evening. Dad's taking care of something else today," Miles frowned.
"What?" I asked. Miles had a concerned look on his face, and not his usual grumpy one. He looked worried.
"Just stuff," he shrugged. He then sighed. "Dad isn't doing well, Mick. His health took a nosedive after you left."
That wasn't the first I heard of this. Remorse weighed heavy on me each time. I didn't want my dad to get sick when I left. I thought he would replace the pack was better off without me. I didn't expect to be missed, especially by him of all people. "I'll be there," I told Miles after a long period of silence.
"Good," he smiled. His smile started to falter as the beast in his eyes started to stir. My head started to hurt all of a sudden, like a hammer was beating on it from the inside. Rome, my parasite, was snarling, and then Chloe's voice broke through. "Shots fired! Mick! Send help!"
Shots fired? I turned to Miles as panic set in, but he had already ripped out of his clothes, turning into his gray wolf, sprinting for the treeline.
I stood on my feet, feeling helpless to do anything. All I could do was stare at the treeline, praying that my brother would make it to my mate soon.
