The Alphas’ P**n Star Mate
Chapter 73 – The Alphas’ Porn Star Mate

Miles POV

"Where?!" Ivar demanded the guards the moment he took control.

"Southeast border, by the highway," Oscar, one of my head guards replied. "The guest that beat the luna detected him. He's on the hunt now."

"Who was shot?" I asked, my heart racing thinking the worst.

There was a long pause before another guard answered, "No one, sir. Um, your mate pushed Lewis out of the way."

My stomach dropped. "Was she....?"

"She's not hit. She sped off with her friend. We're trying to keep up with them now." After a brief silence, he added, "Luna is fast."

She may be fucking fast, but she shouldn't be taking off running towards danger. Ivar was snarling, his angry growls tearing through the early morning air. He knew where to go. He was being pulled in the direction that Oscar said, even before he got the confirmation that it was where they would be.

Damn it. If I could fucking mind link her, I would know she was alright. I could order her to stand down and let my men handle it. I could command her back to the pack house where I know it is safe. She needs those fucking guards.

The damp dirt raced beneath as we pushed further and further. It was minutes later when we caught up with my men who were vehemently following the trail of my mate. Ivar pushed harder, moving past them, following Chloe's sage scent. It was seconds later when I saw the fluffy tail of her wolf, right on the heels of a large sandy male. His build was massive, on par with mine. I knew it was their friend right away by his skill. His wolf was much like him, taking everything in and assessing as he sped through the forest.

There were two quads about fifty yards ahead. One had two men on the back of it, and the other just one. The one with two men must be carrying the shooter, because the man in the back has a long range rifle on his back with a suppressor at the end. That's why we didn't hear the shot. He was unstrapping something from inside his pant leg, and I realized seconds too late that he was pulling out a handgun.

The man turned it on Chloe's friend, who let out a low warning growl. Right as he pulled the trigger, Chloe shoved sideways and pushed him out of the way. The bullet flew past both of them, but not before grazing Chloe's shoulder. "NOOOO!" I screamed, and Ivar snarled viciously.

Chloe stumbled, but quickly got back up, her wolf shaking off the impact and pushing through the pain to continue after the men. Her friend, now pissed, gained traction on a felled log and leaped for the quad with the two men. They yelled, then let out a blood-curdling scream when he shifted in midair and landed on top of the four-wheeler. He quickly snapped the neck of the man with the gun, tossing him back to the ground, taking the gun from his stiff hands as he fell. He put the driver in a chokehold as he aimed at the other driver, shooting and hitting him in the center of the head.

"Holy hellfire," Ivar was stunned. The race for the men before they reached the highway ended when the guy, Lenny or Leonard I think his name was, choked the driver unconscious and he took control of the quad. The other, with the now dead human sporting a gunshot in the head, crashed into a large oak, coating the tree with his blood when his body went flying forward and was crushed by the machine.

"Mate," Ivar growled, heading for Chloe instead of the humans who almost killed her. I would deal with them soon, but not until I knew she was okay.

She was crouched down, sniffing the human with the broken neck. Her wolf seemed satisfied that he was dead. She lifted her snout, her chocolatey eyes meeting Ivar's as we got closer.

Then, a light gray wolf with white markings on his face and belly came up beside her, a wolf not from my pack. When he started licking the blood off her shoulder, I realized it was that bastard, Boyd. Her wolf snapped at his snout, walking away from him and kicking her back legs in annoyance. The light gray wolf tried to follow her, but I cut him off, Ivar ripping out a low, menacing growl. The light gray wolf tucked his tail, his hair rising down his spine. He snuffed his nose, then turned to one of the other wolves, not a part of my pack, who were gathering around Lenny, some of them shifting to help search the humans' clothing for other weapons and identification.

"He needs to go or I might kill him," Ivar said to me.

I agree. I'll talk to Rodger about him later, because I'm growing more and more uncomfortable with him around Chloe and my brother. Boyd is either lusting after Chloe, or looking at Mick like he wants to kill him. It's got to stop.

Ivar nudged Chloe's wolf's hind leg until she stopped, then he rubbed up beside her, checking her body for more injury. When he didn't replace any more, he worked to clean the wound on her shoulder, lapping his tongue through the sticky, coppery-tasting fur, getting rid of all the blood he could as he also removed all traces of the bastard who tried to do this before us.

Chloe didn't stop us like she did him. She was tense, but that might just be from the situation. I wish more and more that we could mind link so I could talk to her right now. I want to ask her so many things, like what she was thinking, chasing after them instead of heading straight back for the packhouse. It was clear what the humans were here for. Somehow, despite our efforts, I know that stupid bounty that the Mr. Smith guy placed on her is the reason for the sudden visit from our gun-wielding human friends. She should have come back home. When Ivar got to the skin, he licked the healing wound a few times to be sure it was no longer bleeding, then started nudging her face in frustration for scaring him the way she did. Why did she push her friend out of the way? He saw the bullet coming. I'm sure the man, with his level of fucking skill, could have dodged it himself if he wanted to.

I grew so frustrated, I ended up shifting back to human form, Ivar wanting these questions answered.

"What the hell were you thinking?!" were the first words out of my mouth. "Fuck, Chloe! Were you not fucking thinking?! You could have been killed!"

Her wolf blew steamy puffs of exasperated breath at me, then her whole body quivered and shed as she shifted back.

"Don't yell at me, jackass," she said, looking ready to fight. "I wasn't going to let Lenny get shot."

"I wasn't going to get shot, dura," Lenny said, walking over to Chloe to examine her shoulder. He frowned at the red and puckered skin, then glared at Chloe. "He was aiming right for you!" Chloe glared back.

"I was going to dodge it, but you moved before I could. Are you insane, Chloe? Do you know what Rodger would have done if you had gotten seriously hurt?"

I snorted, "What about me?" I added angrily. "What about my brother?"

She looked at both of us with a deep scowl, irritated by our anger. "I'm fine, jerks. Sorry I tried to help with the problem that I fucking created. I'll just take the shot to the head instead next time and save you all the trouble."

My stomach dropped. Was she serious? Even as a joke, or saying that out of anger, it was not a line she should speak of crossing.

Lenny's face fell too, and the tension in his eyes said it all. "Don't say that, lapachka," Lenny said with a worried tone. He tried to reach for her, but she knocked away his hand with a growl.

"I'm gonna la-punch-cha in a fucking minute."
