The Alphas’ P**n Star Mate -
Chapter 74 – The Alphas’ Porn Star Mate
She's pissed. Damn it, I should have held my frustration in. She looked ready to punch one or all of us right now, and I still had this sick feeling in my gut from her words. As she started to head back towards the packhouse, her body vibrating like she was getting ready to shift, I called out, "Take a couple of guards back with you to be safe." "I can keep myself safe," she snapped. "I don't want to inconvenience anyone else."
"Chloe, it's non-negotiable," I said firmly.
"Whatever you say, Alpha," she muttered, then shifted back to her wolf. Her wolf looked back at me, her beautiful brown eyes tense as steam rolled out of her glossy black nose. She huffed, then took off towards home. Oscar and Pete, two of my warrior guards, took off after her, knowing to keep her safe with just a look from me.
"Damn it," I mumbled under my breath. I could have handled that better.
Lenny sighed, running his hands over his head over and over again, staring after my angry little mate. "I can't believe she tried to take a bullet for me."
"Me neither, but to be fair, she was just trying to get you out of the way. I don't think she planned on taking it."
"No, but I still would have been fine."
"I could see that," I stared warily at him. He wasn't just some ordinary rogue or some run of the mill stripper like the others. He was far too skilled to be an ordinary werewolf either. "Where did you learn to react like that?"
Lenny scoffed, staring at the blood droplets left by Chloe on the ground. "Do not worry, Alpha. I am loyal to Rodger. I am of no threat to you."
"I didn't think you were," I said. "I'm just curious. You're more skilled than any warrior in my pack, and you're a rogue. I'm wondering how you got those abilities in the first place."
He smirked. "Not all packs or countries are as peaceful as yours, Alpha. I survived. That is nothing to marvel at." He bent down and touched the blood on the forest floor, then stood back up to look back at the four-wheelers and my men, along with Boyd, and two other wolves from their club, who were assessing the damage and the humans who broke onto my territory. "Rodger is not going to be happy about this. He's already on edge with his sisters heading this way."
"Sisters?"
Lenny slid a hand down his face and nodded. "Sorry. I thought he had talked to you about that already. His sisters should be here tomorrow or the next day. They're taking a long route to throw off anyone who might follow them."
Why would his sisters be coming to my pack too? What else is he not telling me? I thought about it for a few seconds, then decided to just ask Lenny to see what information I could get out of him. "Lenny, is it?" I asked.
He gave me a stoic look and nodded once.
"Lenny, is there something more to the relationship between Rodger and Chloe?"
Lenny frowned. "He is not interested in your mate, Alpha. He isn't like Boyd where you would-"
"I know that," I cut him off. "I mean, there seems to be some paternal feelings there on his part. Would you know anything about that?"
Lenny stared at me with a tense expression, then looked around, seeing who was all listening. No one was close to us. They were busy with the human bodies and four-wheelers. A team was already forming with Dez to track the tire prints of the vehicles to see where they came from. Everyone was too busy to give two shits to Lenny and I right now.
"Alpha," he said quietly. "That would be a question for Rodger. Not me."
I nodded, knowing his loyalty to the witch would far outweigh his obligation to answer me. His reaction was all the answer I needed though.
"I'll have to bring it up with him later."
Lenny stared at me, his face unreadable. "Just know that my loyalty to Rodger extends to Chloe. That is all I will say." With that, he jogged back over to the crash site, barking out orders on what to do with the crushed body while my men were still trying to figure out how to search the body without making a mess.
What a fucked up start to a day. A group of humans somehow got into my pack, shot at my mate, and now only one is left alive. If they somehow found out Chloe was here, that means others know as well. We will have to heighten security more than ever, and Chloe will have to have guards with her at all times, whether she likes it or not. My mate is pissed at me, and since we do not yet have a bond, I can't sense her to see if she is okay. I can't tell if she was serious about her horrifying statement earlier, or if she is just writing me off for good now, putting me in the same grouping as her abusive ex, because I couldn't hide my frustration. I have more witches coming to my pack. I now know a secret about my mate's paternity that I don't think she is even aware of. My brother gave me a green light to get closer to Chloe, but I think I just made her want to push away.
As Alpha, I'm pushing past my breaking point. I need to figure out this shit with Mick's mate soon so I don't have to keep on taking this all on my own. I need my brother's help. I need my mate to accept me. And I need all these fuckers coming after her to drop dead, and take Boyd with them.
Chloe POV
"He was just worried," Cortina tried to calm me down as we got closer and closer to the packhouse.
"He didn't have to yell at me like that in front of everyone," I muttered, feeling a burning behind my eyes.
"We got shot, Chloe. He wasn't mad at you. He was concerned."
Remembering the sweet way his wolf nursed Cortina where she bled made my eyes burn more. Rome used to be that sweet to Cortina, but then Cameron was an asshole to me. Putting me down and belittling me in front of others, making me feel like a lesser being. He had guards on my ass too when I was outside of the packhouse, if I was let out of the packhouse at all.
"That's not what he was trying to do, Chloe. I know it's not. He was just worried. Lenny was being more of a jerk than him."
"Lenny's not my mate," I huffed. It just annoyed me when he started to be like an overprotective jerk. Miles was the one who automatically started yelling at me. Right after his wolf was so sweet, it was a shock.
Stupid jerk.
Fuck, I'm going to cry. Everything had been getting back to some form of normal the past few days, and I was feeling less and less guilty as time passed by. I haven't been able to face Rodger and apologize yet after learning about the club being gone, but I was working up to it. Now, I'm feeling like shit again, and the temptation to run away and take my problems with me is too great. If Miles didn't have two warriors on my tail, I might have done just that.
"Chloe? Are you okay?" Mick suddenly asked, probably feeling me getting closer in the bond.
Another wave of shame washed over me. Shit, I couldn't even leave without Mick, and Mick is getting more and more at home here every day.
I feel so fucking worthless and pathetic. I'm ruining everything for everyone. I know those humans were here for me. I thought they were hunters at first, but they wouldn't have been dressed in all black with an expensive looking gun if they were. Hunters wear orange and have those wooden Bambi killers. Not sleek, heavy, all black rifles with silencers and lasers. They looked right out of a spy movie or something.
They were here for me. I knew they were, and that's why I tried to keep everyone else from getting hurt. I didn't expect to be yelled at for my efforts.
"Chloe?!"
"I'm fine," I said back to Mick, sounding more aggravated than I meant to. I felt his worry heighten right away. I added in a much softer tone. "I'm heading back to the packhouse now. There were human gunmen, but Lenny took them out." "You're really fine?" He sounded just as worried as before. "I....I felt something."
Shit. He probably felt the gunshot. "Just a small scratch. It's already gone," I said, not wanting to tell him the extent yet. I'm sure he will hear about it later. I broke through the trees and saw Mick waiting near the warrior center with a large group of men in gators and quads. They were probably ordered to go out to get the bodies and clean the mess.
Cortina, seeing Mick, made a beeline for him. He looked relieved to see us, and though I knew he would want me in my human form, I asked Cortina to stay in hers. I didn't want to break down in front of Mick or the others right now.
"Thank the goddess you're fine," Mick said, running his hands through Cortina's fur. His hands graved over the tender spot where we were grazed by the bullet, but Cortina managed to fight off the urge to cringe or show any sort of discomfort.
"I'm feeling really gross though," I told him. Cortina turned and huffed at the two guards. They didn't show any sign of leaving our side, which annoyed me further. I sighed and said to Mick, "I'm going to go back and shower." "Want me to come?" he asked, already ready to walk back with me. He started to turn in the direction to follow me back.
"I, uh, think your brother could use some help. One of the humans is still alive." Cortina nuzzled her face against his, softening my refusal.
"Are you sure?" he asked, rubbing her under her chin.
"Yeah," I feigned a more happy tone. "I'll see you when you get back."
