The Gamma’s Heart – Chapter 29

I was shaking, my whole body was freezing, Hank tried his best to keep me warm but it was pointless because all I wore was a shirt.

I could tell he was cold too. His movements told me that. We’ve been running for hours now, with no end in sight.

“You n-need to rest.” I said my teeth chattering together. “We’re almost there. Just hold on.” Hank said not slowing down his movements.

“If you just d-drop me off here and-” I tried to say but he cut me off.

“I’m not doing that. I’ve done enough damage, you’ll die out here if I leave you in this cold” Hank couldn’t believe what she just said. I shook my bead at her and continued running.

“But I’m so tired.” I said, I’d just sleep while he went for help.

He suddenly stopped moving, his heavy breathing fanning my face, causing me to shiver in the cold. “Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep…okay? Promise me you won’t fall asleep.” he urged and I looked up at him, my eyes wanted to close but the determined look on his face was telling me to keep them open as long as I could.

“I p-promise.” his cold hands held me tighter as he started running again. “Half an hour Clara and you’ll be home.” I heard him say.

Noah and Wyatt growled as they entered the shabby looking building. It was the farthest thing from Black Moon that could be traced in the Beta’s name.

They both could smell her sweet vanilla scent but it was faint. Which meant she hasn’t been here for a while, and that angered them both.

They walked into the living area and seen the man they’ve been looking for. “Stand up.” Timothy growled at his father.

“Where’s Clara? And where’s Hank dad? What did you do to them?” he questioned him as he watched the man stand.

Alex put his hands in the air. “Last I seen, Hank was running off into the woods with her. She must’ve whispered the sweetest things to him while he f****d her.” he snickered with a smirk forming.

Wyatt walked over and punched him as hard as he could in the mourh.

Holding onto his jaw he smirked again, “so you’re the mate she wouldn’t tell me about.”

Noah held him back as he went to lunge at him again. “He’s one of them” it was Noah’s turn to smirk, as the man looked between the two of them.

“But that is not-” Alex couldn’t even form the sentence. “Hank said he marked her, and it took her previous mate’s bond away.”

“He must have lied to you.” Noah growled.

Holding Kane back was alot harder than he thought, it wasn’t until Wyatt gripped his shoulders tightly that he realized he was loosing the reins on his wolf.

Timothy stepped up, “whatever you told him to get him to do that… did you really not think of the consequences? All you’ve done now is sign your own death certificate.”

Richard came up from the back his phone in his hands “Hank must have seen through your lies too, because I just got a call from border patrol. They just seen him running over into Jewel Pack with a girl in his arms.”

Samuel came in the room soon after, his eyes flickering from his green eyes to white. “You boys might want to head home. I’ll handle him.” he growled.

“Give my daughter my best. I’ll be there by morning.” He told them as he grabbed Alex by his throat.

Hank slowed down the moment he saw lights, “we are here” he smiled looking down. “hey, you promised to stay awake.” he said shaking her slightly.

“You aren’t breaking your promise are you?” he asked her softly. A small smile played on Clara’s chapped lips. “I’m trying not to.” Hank readjusted her then stood back up. “We’re so close.”

“If you…” she was tired but she wanted to let him know in case she did fall asleep. “if you replace 16th avenue my parents.. they’re …they are..” Clara tried to tell him but she couldn’t replace the energy to finish what she needed to tell him.

He looked down feeling her head roll back and he panicked. Hank took off running, he searched street signs 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th he doubled back when he saw that. 16th avenue.

He didn’t want to wake up just some random person, he knew nobody here. He seen all the houses were dark, all but one, so he ran up to it and pounded on the door.

“Help, is anybody awake? Please help” He continued banging while struggling to keep her upright in his arms until the door swung open.

Josie stood there just starting at him, she went to say something snarky until she seen that he was carrying someone.

Josie took a step forward and reached out then moved the mess of black curls that covered the girls face, she gasped tears filling her eyes.

She couldn’t speak. Was she still dreaming? “Josie who is it honey?” her mother asked tying a robe around herself.

Gloria placed her hand on her daughter’s shoulder and gasped when she seen the 2 on her doorstep. “Oh my gosh, Clara? Come inside get out of this cold air please?” Gloria ushered the young man into her home.

“THOMAS GET THE CAR!!” she yelled for her husband as she moved her daughter who was still in a state of shock, and closed the door.

“Thank you ma’am. She managed 16th avenue and her parents before she passed out but this isn’t my pack. I have no clue where I’m going.” Hank rushed as he shook slightly still clinging to Clara’s frozen form.

She was like an icicle and her lips were blue. But he couldn’t let her go no matter how cold he was.

Josie finally snapped out of it. “She needs a doctor mom,” she said as she went and picked up the phone. “No, Josie you go over to her parents and tell them, while your dad and I run them to the hospital, they both need a doctor.” Gloria said as she wrapped another blanket around Hank.

Josie nodded her head. “Just link me if something happens please?” she asked her mkther while glancing over at her best friend once more. Her dad walked into the room with his car keys in his hand.

The older Omega helped Hank stand but his knees bucked and he fell. “son let my husband take her..” Gloria told him but he shook his head. “I’ve got her ma’am” Hank said forcing himself back up into a standing position.

“Go start the car honey,” Gloria told Thomas as they walked back to the door and outside into the harsh cold air. Josie slipped on her shoes and a jacket over her body as she took off down the street.

She kocked on the front door and yelled “Mrs. Baker it’s Josie open up!” she seen a few interior lights turn on, then the porch light.

A tired looking Abigail opened the door. “Josie sweetheart what’s going on, everything okay?”

A huge grin spread on Josie’s face “Someone brought Clara home. She gave them directions to the street but not the house… my parents are taking her to the hospital right now.”

Abigail nearly fainted, if Josie hadn’t been there to steady her. “She’s home Mrs. Baker!” she whispered to the older woman.

Hank kneeled down and gently tapped her cheek, her eyes fluttered open and he sighed.

Victor rounded the corner, as he seen his wife being held up he rushed over. “What happened dear?” he asked her, she suddenly engulfed him a hug and began crying.

He looked over at the young woman standing in the doorway with questioning eyes. “She’s on her way to the hosptal as we speak.” is all she said, and Victor felt his eyes water.

Timothy held his older brothers hand. “It’s okay, just tell them what dad told you. They promised to be lenient considering your brain chemistry.” Hank was nervous.

If they wanted to kill him, he would let them no questions asked.

“Just tell me.. how is she doing?” Timothy smiled at him “She’s still warming up. They’re giving her warm fluids and everything. She’s going to be okay.” Hank ran a hand down his face then slowly nodded. “And dad didn’t do anything to her?”

Timothy wasn’t surprised at how worried his older brother was. He even cared for the Omega’s their father routinely beat. “We won’t know anything until her test results come back, but so far she’s okay. Are you ready?” he asked him for the 4th time since he woke up.

“I’m ready.” Hank nodded his head.

Timothy got up and walked to the door. He knocked on it twice and then went and sat back down beside his brother. Moments later in walked Alpha Dan and Samuel.

Hank shifted uncomfortably on the hospital bed under the gaze of the to men. “Brandon?” he honestly thought that he was doing the interview since he was the Alpha and not his dad.

“He’s sitting with his sister.” he nodded watching as he set up the camera.

“Just let us know exactly what happened.” Dan told him when Samuel was finished.

He began playing with his fingers. “A few days ago my dad.. Alex, told me that he found a witch who lost her wolf and wanted to see if she could take on a second mate, while still being bound to her first mate.” he started.

It sounded silly he knew that but his brain was telling him that it was the truth when his dad told him.

“He wanted me to mark her afterwards, but I didn’t have the heart to. After dad came in and asked if it worked I lied to him and told him that it did and that it broke the bond to her first mate.” Hank mustered up the courage to look up at the two Alpha’s then continued.

“I instantly felt bad, becuase when dad left, she started blaming herself, and calling herself horrible names.”

He took a deep breath “And when she told me that Wyatt and Noah would think of her as ‘a dirty w***e’ I asked her who they were. She said they were her mates and that’s when I knew who she was. I knew I’d be killed the moment I brought her home, and I accepted it.”

Alpha Dan smiled at the young man then looked at Samuel and nodded. “You won’t be charged son. Clara trusted you to bring her home.. that says alot. I know you are a good man. I’ve watched you grow up.” But I think you should live here under Dan’s reign. They have better doctors here. They can help you more than we ever could.” Samuel spoke sternly as he looked at the boy.

“And when her mates take over? They’ll just execute me on the first day.” Hank cried, his emotions were all over the place from what his Alpha said to him.

Timothy squeezed his hand. “It was their idea big brother.” his wide eyes showed his surprise more than his words ever could.
