The Gamma's Heart -
The Gamma’s Heart – Chapter 8
Clara POV
Rolling onto my side, I winced as a sharp pain shot through my shoulder. I moved back onto my back, and opened my eyes.
I was alone, and for some reason that unsettled me. I looked for a clock to see what time it was, replaceing it, I seen that it was around 4. I looked out the window of the room I was in, it was dark outside, so that meant it was the middle of the night.
How long have I been here? I hate being in the hospital. Ever since I was kid I’ve always hated it, whenever I got sick or hurt I wouldn’t come in to be looked at, I’d stay home.
Closing my eyes I tried to not think about my surroundings and go back to sleep.
As I began to drift back off the door opened, opening my eyes I seen it was my brother, he smiled and rushed over when he seen I was awake. “You’re awake,” he said as he sat next to me on the bed.
“Do you have any idea how scared we all were? I thought I was going to loose you, Clara.” he said, looked up at him and noticed tears in his eyes.
I reached for his hand, as he grabbed it in his hand he tightened his grip as if I was going to evaporate if he let go.
“I’m not going anywhere big brother.” I whispered, my voice croaked slightly due to how dry my throat was.
As if reading my mind, he reached over and picked up a cup on the table next to the bed and poured water into it from the plastic container next to it.
“Can you sit up, or do you need help?” he asked.
I gripped the railing on the bed and tried to sit up, but failed miserably. “I don’t think I can do it by myself, can you help me please?”
Chase grabbed my left hand and placed a hand under me on my back and helped my sit up. I closed my eyes as the room started to spin, nausea settled in my stomach. “I don’t feel so good,” I mumbled.
“it’s probably the morphine they’ve been giving you for the pain. Without it you’d be in agony.” he said, when I opened my eyes to look at him I noticed his eyes were glazed over.
“Chase?” I called out to him, a few seonds later he smiled and looked at me. His deep blue eyes peering into my own. “I was letting the nurse know, you were awake and needed something for the nausea.”
He picked up the cup and handed it to me. It was then I noticed my right arm was in a sling, and my left leg was in a cast. I looked up at him again, “What happened? I remember the attack, but not much else.” I said as I took a sip of the cool water.
“Well the rouges that got a hold of you dislocated your shoulder, and fractured your collarbone. But your leg… they broke it in 2 different places. You would be healed by now if they hadn’t given you such a concentrated dose of wolfsbane.”
“Is that why my skin feels like it’s gonna burn off?” I asked him, and he nodded. I sighed just as the door opened, revealing a young man in his mid 20s, he smiled brightly, I was thinking it is too late in the noght to be this cheery.
“Well someone told me that you’re feeling nauseous,” he said a little louder that I liked. I nodded my head slowly. “How about pain? On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst?” he asked, “at the moment it feels about a 7 or 8” I breathed, I closed my eyes when a sharp pain ran through my body.
I clenched my teeth, and tightened my grip on my brothers hand. “Clara..” I heard him whisper.
He brushed my hair from my face and cupped my cheek, I felt cold, I shivered slightly. Leaning into Chase’s hand I opened my eyes partly. “Where does it hurt sister?”
I let out a breath “Everywhere!” I stated.
The nurse moved over to me, I let go of Chase’s hand and lifted it slightly for the nurse, letting him have better access to the IV in my hand.
He smiled, “My name is Rory, Miss Clara. I’m here at night but Amanda is your nurse durring the day.” I nodded at him and gave him a small smile.
“I’m giving you the pain medication first, it’ll make you a little dizzy so it’d be best if you laid back down.” Rory fluffed the pillow before helping me lay back. He then picked up the medicine and gave it to me, when he did my head felt fuzzy, and my stomach started to turn.
He looked at me and quickly grabbed a bucket, he and Chase quickly sat me up and once I was up he placed the bucket in front of me and I spewed out whatever contents that sat in my stomach.
Once I was finished, Chase handed me the cup with water in it, I took a sip and swirled it around in my mouth before spitting it into the bucket. Handing the cup back to my brother I noticed he worried look on his face, “I’m fine Chase.”
“It’s not that, it’s your eyes Clara,” he said, my brows bunched together “What about them?” I questioned. “Chase, I’m sure it’s because I feel like I’m as high as the clouds right now.”
Rory chuckled as he finished giving me the meds, he then placed his hand on my forehead. “You’re warm, I’ll let the Doctor know. We’ll have to change your bandages tomorrow, to check and see if they’re healing properly.” I nodded, and they helped me lay back again.
My eyes began to feel heavy, once I closed them I instantly succumbed to the sleep that over took me.
