Chapter 183 Living in That Photograph

Elias sat on the couch, holding the baby for two hours without moving a muscle. Amanda even felt uncomfortable watching him. "It's been two hours. He should be in a deep sleep by now. Let's put him on the bed," she suggested again.

The man lowered his head and looked at his son in his arms, gently holding onto his tiny hand, trying to take his tie out from the chubby little hand. However, the little guy's hand remained gripping, even tightening a bit.

Elias smiled helplessly and looked up at her. "If you're tired, you can turn in first. I'll be fine."

"Do you plan on holding him like this all night? Your arm will get sore."

Besides, Elias' foot was injured, and he needed rest too. Holding Aiden all night was no joke. Now that this little guy was getting heavy, holding him all night would strain his arm.

The man looked down at his son and said, "It's okay. This fatherly love is four years late already. Holding him for one night is nothing. I am his father. It's my duty."

Amanda had nothing to say. It was rare for him to take on the responsibilities of a father so wholeheartedly, so she could not stop him. Still, how could she sleep with the two of them like this?

"I... I can't sleep either. I'll keep you company. Are you hungry? Should I make you something?"

After all, he hardly ate a few bites when they were in Winters Manor, probably losing an appetite.

A hint of helplessness was on his handsome face as he glanced at the precious kid in his arms. "Do you think I can eat a late-night food like this?"

She chuckled and said, "I can feed you." Just like how I usually feed Baby. However, she regretted saying that as soon as the words left her mouth.

The man smiled and said, "That's a good idea. Please cook me a plate of spaghetti."

She was speechless and wanted to slap and scold herself for being meddlesome.

Selina sat on the living room couch, glancing toward Amanda's bedroom occasionally. She did not know what was happening inside but was worried when she saw Aiden in a bad state. Suddenly, the bedroom door opened, and Amanda walked out.

Selina immediately stood up. "Amanda, what happened? Is Aiden okay?"

"He's fine. He's still in his father's arms, but Elias can't let go of him. He seems to have been frightened. Just need more cooing." Amanda finished speaking and walked toward the kitchen. Selina followed along. "What are you doing? Are you hungry? Let me make you something."

"No, I'm cooking a plate of spaghetti for Elias. He didn't eat much at night, and he's injured too. Holding the child for so long is physically exhausting."

"Oh... I see. In that case, you should cook it yourself. After all, it's a plate of love-filled spaghetti." Selina smiled and turned around, preparing to return to her room and sleep.

Amanda wanted to explain but then thought it was not worth it. She could not be bothered to explain.

After a while, she returned to the bedroom with a plate of spaghetti, only to replace that Elias had put the baby on the bed. She looked surprised. "Did he let go of your tie?" "Yeah, I think he fell into a deep sleep. Maybe he found a sense of security in his own home."

"In that case, I'll put this plate of spaghetti on the dining table for you." She turned around, ready to take it out.

However, he blocked her way, lowered his head, and looked at her. "Aren't you going to feed me? Now that Aiden is asleep, am I not entitled to such treatment?" "Yeah? Now that your hands are free, you can eat on your own. Why should I feed you?" She walked out while holding the plate of spaghetti.

A tinge of regret appeared on his handsome face as he murmured, "I should've held on to you all along."

She suddenly turned around and looked at him. "What did you say?"

"Nothing. Let's eat. I'm hungry," he said, walking out of the bedroom.

She watched his tall, handsome figure from behind and could not help but chuckle softly.

The next day, Aiden woke up early but obediently hid under the covers without making a fuss. If it were any other day, he would have started clamoring for milk by now. Elias had another sleepless night, leaning on a single couch all night, accompanying the child, afraid that he would be scared if he woke up in the middle of the night. Now, drowsiness overcame him. He dozed off on the couch for a while.

Amanda went to freshen up. In the meantime, Aiden woke up, his big and round eyes looking somewhat empty. The bedroom door was pushed open gently as she did not want to wake the child. However, to her surprise, she found her baby had already awakened.

She walked to the bed, looked at Aiden's innocent eyes, and smiled. "Baby, you're awake? Why didn't you call for Mommy? Are you hungry? Do you want breakfast or some milk?"

He nodded. "Yes."

"Then, I'll go get some milk for you." After saying that, she turned around and walked out of the bedroom. She thought something was strange with Aiden, who had become much quieter.

At that moment, Elias seemed to have heard Amanda's voice. He slowly opened his eyes, and his dark gaze shifted to the bed, noticing that the child had awakened. He stood up, walked to the bed, and sat down. His large hand gently caressed the child's head. "Awake?"

Aiden did not react at all. He merely stared at him with his eyes wide open, and there seemed to be fear in his gaze. He noticed that the child's reaction was off and frowned. "What did your great-grandpa tell you yesterday? Or what did he show you? Are you scared?"

It was as if Elias understood the baby's concerns. Aiden's gaze flickered, and he nodded, finally speaking up, "Great-Grandpa took me to see Grandpa. There was only one photo, and Great-Grandpa said Grandpa was living in that photograph and that he could never come out. Uncle Elias, why does Grandpa live in the photo? It's so scary."

The man's face turned grim as he suppressed his anger. If he were not facing the child right now, he wanted to call Howard and give him a piece of his mind.

Howard became more absurd as he got older, telling such nonsensical things to such a young child. Living inside a photograph? A young child's understanding could easily interpret it as something supernatural! It could cause psychological trauma for the child!

At that moment, Amanda entered with a milk bottle and saw the father and son seemingly engaged in conversation. She smiled and asked, "What are you guys talking about?"

Elias gently stroked the child's fluffy head and said in a deep voice, "No need to be afraid. Great-Grandpa was just joking with you. Grandpa is away on a business trip." "But why did Great-Grandpa scare me? It's so scary." The baby seemed genuinely frightened, his eyes showing a hint of timidity.

On the other hand, Amanda was utterly confused, unable to understand what they were discussing.

Elias fell silent for a few seconds and said, "Because he's bored." He got up and walked toward the terrace. "You stay with the child. I'll go make a phone call outside." She looked at Aiden on the bed and could not help but ask, "Baby, what's so scary? Did you have a nightmare?"
