Chapter 226 Good Boy
Chapter 226 Good Boy
"I wasn't refusing to take my medicine. I said I would wait for Daddy to come before taking it," Aiden argued with a pout, holding Elias' neck tightly.
Elias was deeply touched. He finally realized what it felt like for his son to cling to him. It was an indescribable feeling of happiness.
"I'll feed you the medicine, then, alright?" said Elias as he sat on the couch with Aiden in his arms. He reached a hand out to Amanda, gesturing for her to bring the medicine.
She handed over the pills reluctantly, and Selina quickly poured a glass of water and placed it on the coffee table.
At that moment, Elias transformed into a gentle father, coaxing the little bundle of joy in his arms. "Be a good boy and take your medicine, or you'll continue to feel uncomfortable."
Sure enough, the little one obediently opened his mouth and swallowed the medicine, then picked up the cup and took several sips of water.
Amanda and Selena were stupefied.
No matter how they tried to coax him earlier, it was of no use. That was why they had to forcefully administer the medicine. Now, with just a few words from Elias, he obediently took it. It was ironic for her as a single mother.
"Why did you insist on only taking the medicine after I come back?" Elias asked.
After all, the little guy usually never clung to him so badly. Something must've happened for him to be so clingy all of a sudden.
Aiden pouted aggrievedly, hesitating to speak.
"What's wrong? Is it a secret? Can't you tell me? How about you tell Mommy, then?"
Elias looked at Amanda as he spoke, intending to figure out what was up with Aiden if he had been bullied in school or something.
At that, Aiden leaned close and cupped Elias' ear, whispering, "That's because I told Waylen you would take me to kindergarten tomorrow."
A child's logic could be so random that their words wouldn't match up. Still, Elias understood him.
He chuckled and played with Aiden's little hand. "So, you want me to agree to take you to school before you'd finally take your medicine, right?"
"Yes!" The little guy gazed innocently at him.
"You've already taken your medicine, though!" Elias teased the little guy, who stared blankly at his father in turn and said, "I only took one pill. I still need to take another one."
This little rascal is quite clever. Elias was both stumped and impressed.
"Alright, I promise you, so take your medicine now, and I will take you to kindergarten tomorrow."
"Yay! Okay!" Aiden opened his hand, revealing a pill that he had hidden earlier, and put it in his mouth. He then picked up the cup and took a few sips of water.
"Why do you want me to take you to kindergarten?" Elias asked while stroking Aiden's hair.
"Waylen's daddy sends him to school every day, and Waylen says his daddy is more handsome than mine, but that's not true! My dad is the most handsome of all, hmph!" The little guy snorted proudly, eagerly wanting to show off his father at school the next day.
Suddenly, Elias felt guilty...
He had been so busy lately that he hadn't spent much time with Aiden, let alone taken him to school.
"Good boy. I'll take you to school every day from tomorrow onward. How does that sound?" Elias decided that no matter how busy he got, he would make sure to take Aiden to school on time.
"Really? Mommy said you're very busy, though. Do you really have time? You're not lying to me, are you? Adults cannot lie too." Aiden seemed skeptical.
Elias' heart suddenly ached at the sight of Aiden's reaction.
It was apparent that the little one had been brushed off by adults too many times, so he no longer trusted anything an adult said entirely.
"I won't lie to you. Now that you've taken your medicine, go to sleep. I'll take you to kindergarten tomorrow if your fever has broken."
"Okay! You can't lie to me, okay? Pinky promise!" said Aiden as he reached his pinky out. Elias chuckled helplessly and hooked his pinky with Aiden's. "Alright, go on. Follow Miss Selina to bed." Elias patted Aiden's head.
Selina tactfully approached and reached her hand toward Aiden, suggesting, "Come, Aiden, let's go to sleep. That way, your fever will break sooner." Doing so would also give space for Amanda and Elias.
Since the little guy's needs were met, he obediently followed Selina back to the room to sleep.
The sound of the door closing filled the living room before returning to silence. The atmosphere was extremely tense, with only Amanda and Elias remaining. Neither of them spoke.
"Your job is done here. You can leave now," Amanda said icily, not even bothering to spare him a glance. "By the way, this house is yours. Aiden and I will replace time to move out. We won't cause your new wife any trouble or let her misunderstand you."
Elias parted his lips in response but hesitated to speak.
Just then, his phone vibrated. It was Stephanie again. He was certain it was to urge him to replace Crispin quickly.
Without thinking twice, he declined the call, but within a second, the phone vibrated again.
"Go ahead and answer it. It's not like you haven't answered her call in front of me before. Besides, couples during the honeymoon phase are always lovey-dovey like this. I get it," Amanda said, her words dripping with sarcasm, but as she said them, her heart was bleeding.
She couldn't understand why people changed so easily; why could others easily move on from a relationship while she was still stuck in it even after four years?
Elias, with his hand ready to decline the call, paused for a moment, then unlocked the screen and answered the call, placing it against his ear.
As expected, Stephanie urged him at once, "What's the situation? Did you replace him? Can't you be faster, for God's sake? Crisp will get scared since he's quite timid."
Timid? Elias couldn't help wanting to laugh. What's with this couple and their never-ending problems?!
"What use do you have for him if he's such a chicken?"
"Please, help me replace Crisp. You promised me. How can you back out?!"
"I've already found him," Elias said impatiently. "I'll send him over to you later."
"Really? That's great! I" Not wanting to listen to Stephanie's blabber, he hung up the phone directly.
"She's a rich girl who has practically lived a princess-like life since she was a child. Is this how you should treat her? Do you think she can take it?" Amanda couldn't bear to watch anymore. She thought Elias had found true love and would be gentler to his soon-to-be wife. At the very least, he had been gentle toward Aiden just now.
"That's her problem," Elias retorted icily. "I'm off. I still have matters to attend to."
With that, he stood up and got ready to leave, but he had taken only a couple of steps before stopping and turning back to look at Amanda. "This house is yours. Consider it compensation for the divorce. You didn't take anything I gave you back then. Now that my son's around, he'll need it even if you don't."
With that, he left without looking back.
Only the sound of the door closing remained, and Amanda couldn't help but laugh. It was laughable.
He was as domineering as ever, unchanged. He always liked to command others, not giving them any chance to refuse.
