The Legacy of the Alpha King: Hiding his Secret Twins -
Chapter 24 by Ebony Woods
Evelyn POV
“Daddy!” Elspeth’s arms fling out for Noah who looked dirty and flustered.
“Hello princess, I need to have a quick word with Mummy and Donnie, can you play upstairs?”
“No, she stays nearby. Miss Smith?” I call out for Miss Smith, who comes running out to me.
“Alpha?”
“Can you take Elspeth for a few minutes please, I won’t be long. You need…”
“The warriors are still here, they decided to raid the kitchen!” She tuts as she pulls Elspeth out of Noah’s arms and walks her into the kitchen just as Donnie and the other Head Warriors walk through the front door.
“I’ll make some more refreshments!” I hear Miss Smith call out to me as we re–enter my office.
“Did you replace anything Noah?” I desperately ask as I sit down at my chair, no longer caring how upset my voice might sound.
“I found two dead police officers tucked away in the nearby woods. I’m guessing whoever has done this killed the police for their vehicle. They most likely tried to pull the SUV over but our men refused.”
“Have you reported replaceing the bodies?” Donnie asks, as he and his comrades take some notes.
“I’ve done it anonymously so that it couldn’t be traced back to us. But there’s something else…the police were stripped of their uniform.”
“Okay, so they used the car and uniform to impersonate police to try and pull the car over!” I ‘respond. Why? What a fiasco to go through.
“I found evidence of their clothing. I would say judging by the unkept condition, rogues!”
“Why would rogues take a future alpha? They have no quarry with us?” I debate. It was true I was always open to rogues joining our pack as long as they obeyed by my rules.
We had a few resettled rogues already that had actually found chosen mates and had submerged themselves completely into our society.
“Alpha, if they were hired soldiers…crimes for money, then we need to replace out who has hired them?” Donnie suggests.
“Contact all our ally packs. Don’t raise the alarm on Rex just yet. I don’t want any have a go heroes getting involved. Say two of our men were attacked on human land and evidence shows rogues were involved.” I command, my body already aching to hold Elspeth, to hold Rex.
“You have an hour, then let’s meet back here. All of us are to work through the night so now is your chance to freshen up. I’ll make sure food and drinks are on constant supply.“/
“I’ll ask Breatice over to help Miss Smith…” Donnie offers.
“Are
you sure?” I look to him. I didn’t want a pregnant she–wolf putting herself through stress.
“She’ll want to be here, Harry can keep Elspeth entertained.”
“Right, yes, good idea.”
The Head Warriors leave and Noah closes the door after Donnie is the last one out.
“Do you think it is him?” I growl at Noah, as soon as the door is closed.
“There is no evidence that he is involved. This could be another pack…”
“But what other pack would care if I competed against his alliance. It has to be him Noah, it just
has to be. He would be that ruthless.” I was starting to break down, my wolf was constantly
badgering at me to go replace our son, My tone was becoming hoarse from lack of fluids.
“I need to go replace him, I’ll shift and spend the night…”
“No Evelyn, it’s not safe.”
“Rex is out there Noah…alone and scared!” I scream at him my hands fisting themselves.
He grabs my wrists and holds them tightly.
“They won’t hurt him, they need him alive. We will replace him, we will get him back!” He pulls me into him, my screams being muffled by his chest as I bang my fists against him.
He just holds me, let’s me scream it out, always my biggest supporter and biggest protector.
“I promise, we will replace him!”
It was well into the night now and we had spilled out of the office and were now in the kitchen/ Maps now adorned the kitchen walls and laptops were placed on any spare flat surface.
It was a job in itself not to trip over laptop cables that covered the kitchen floor.
The maps pinpointed where the SUV was found and also where Noah located the also murdered police officers.
We had contacted all neighbouring packs, even ones not part of my alliance, but they all denied any involvement or intelligence. They all offered warriors to help but I held off for now, I didn’t want to draw too much attention or for news to leak across the packs that we were on high alert.
It would result in my alliance packs contacting me and my main focus was only on Rex right now.
Elspeth had finally fallen asleep at around midnight. She refused to sleep in the bedroom without Rex. Again, she hasn’t been away from him one night since they were born.
I let her and Harry watch a movie on the sofa and they had both fallen asleep under the blanket. Beatrice, Donnie’s mate, was keeping an eye on them along with Miss Smith, who was keeping the drinks and food regularly topped up to keep us fuelled to push through the night.
“Alpha, why don’t you try and get some rest!” Miss Smith tries to show me some compassion but I couldn’t accept it, not right now. I needed to remain cold.
“No, not why my boy is out there alone and in danger.” I snap back at her, which I don’t mean to. She was right, any other time I would rest but we needed to work through the night to try and regain some sort of advantage.
I walk into the front room again to check on Elspeth. I’ve been checking on her every hour. Rex’s. kidnap was making me paranoid also for her safety.
She was fast asleep wrapped under Harry’s protective arm, as her head rested on his chest. Her white blonde locks spread out as she also cuddled her bunny teddy tightly.
Harry had been very patient with her and even for a six year old, I had a feeling he understood what had happened to Rex.
“Anything?” I drearily ask at 4am as the last cup of coffee fails to hit the spot. All of my men were already tired from the extra border shifts of late and were now showing the signs.
“Nothing Alpha! No pack has heard of any unusual activity, any rogues near them. We are at a loss!” Donnie groans out before he smashes a laptop onto the floor from a mixture of anger at his future alpha being stolen and from over exhaustion
“Then it’s time I reveal my identity.” I state, it now seemed the only way. I would do anything for my boy.
“Evelyn you understand what that will mean?” Noah quietly says as he rubs his eyes and replaces his glasses back on.
“I do. I will need to forfeit my anonymity as the Silver Moon pack Alpha. It may not be warmly received that a female is heading a group alliance, so we will need our borders well defended.”
“Of course Alpha, what do you want to do?” Donnie asks, standing straight waiting for orders.
♦
“I can’t believe the Red Stone pack is innocent in this. A week after the alpha trespasses and now
face.‘ this. We will leave after breakfast to test out my theory in person. I want to see him lie to my I spit out from rage as I grip on to the back of a dining table chair..
“I’ll prepare the warriors. A number will come with us and a number will remain Alpha!” Donnie confirms as he walks out of the kitchen along with the other head warriors to report to their men
“Evelyn…” Noah softly calls my name.
“I know Noah, but this is about Rex now, not about me and my revenge. I need Rex back, whatever the cost. If that is to waive my hidden identity then so be it!”
“He’ll deny it!” He quirks an eyebrow at me, as he slams shut his laptop and stands up, walking over to me. “I expect nothing less!”
