The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa ) -
Chapter 92
based marriage, and she did not care because she had grown up with constantly-arguing parents.
She did not believe in love, and her marriage views were compatible with Leornard’s. However, Lisa had to base her stories on her being Josephine’s daughter. Unfortunately, she was a substitute bride for Leslie with a low status.
Lisa’s father was an alcoholic, her grandmother was from the countryside, and Isabella lived like a maid with Sebastian.
“I’m sorry.” After contemplating momentarily, Lisa lied, “Money is important to me, but I also long for genuine emotional connection. I planned to obtain a substantial amount when you passed away without offending your family. Then I’d seek true love as a widow. Since I’m still young, I want to experience being loved by someone.”
Leonard tightly pursed his cold, thin lips. Lisa had tr ampled on his reputation and dignity that night. “All right, I see how it
is.”
A few seconds later, he lowered his head and buttoned up his shirt. He said indifferently, “I thought you were smart and didn’t expect you to be so foolish.”
“To hope for true love is naive. What’s so good about it? Isn’t making money more enjoyable? Isn’t ambition more fulfilling?’
Leonard was too busy and did not have time for romance with someone. He found it troublesome. He felt greatly disappointed after hearing what Lisa said. He thought he and Lisa shared the same views.
However, Leonard did not force the issue. He would not force it since they were not on the same page.
Meanwhile, his last sentence angered Lisa. “So wanting to be loved is foolish? According to you, all men and women who seek true love are fools? So you’re saying love shouldn’t exist and couples only need to reproduce? Have you ever considered that you’re the odd one out?”
“I’m not odd, but unique. I march to the beat of my own drum.”
After buttoning his shirt, Leonard grabbed the door, turned back, and said, “Also, women in love become highly irrational and emotional. I don’t like that.”
Then he slammed the door behind him and left.
Lisa gnashed her teeth at the door before finally dropping her hands in frustration. However, she agreed with Leonard when he said women were irrational when in love. She did not like that either.
Lisa preferred money because it provided a sense of security. Unfortunately, she was not the real Ms. Jones who was supposed to marry Leonard.
Suddenly, Lisa felt like crying. It was as if someone had thrown billions of dollars at her, but she had missed and lost the chance to grab the money. She felt frustrated and called Celine.
When the call connected, Celine cautiously asked, “Lisa?”
“Yeah.”
It was a familiar voice, and Celine sighed in relief. “You two are…fast.”
‘Fast?’
Lisa’s cheeks turned red, “Celine, you’re horrible. I used to think you were pure and innocent. Are there dirty thoughts running in your mind right now?!”
Celine was speechless.
“It doesn’t take much to guess what you two were doing in the couple’s suite so late at night. I have a question. Don’t you think it’s too much for you to call me over to stay in the room with Leonard? It wasn’t easy for me to take the subway here.”
