The Rebel -
Chapter 8
A few days later
Vera held the Alpha by the neck, which was pierced by her blade, kicking it to the ground.
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, she pulled out a handkerchief to clean the b***d from the edges of her blade.
Looking at the corpses in the silent forest, she sighed and headed back to her territory.
There are always Alphas claiming her turf.
But, that’s not possible while she’s alive.
They could never set foot on her territory. Let alone harm her people.
She was willing to do anything to protect them.
Logan’s point of view:
Ben nodded and walked into my office as I sipped my coffee.
“Hello Alpha, I’ve confirmed that our information is from a good source. The rebel gave a helping hand to the Silvermoon pack.”
“Vera knows the rebel! He protected them from all attacks. No other logical reason can explain the defeat of the greatest Alpha.”
I clenched my fist. The association of my companion with another man, set off a spark in me, making me burn with jealousy.
I hope it’s just a business relationship, otherwise I’d have to remind her who she belonged to.
At the council, I didn’t mention the Rebel’s association with them.
Otherwise, Vera, my companion, would be in big trouble.
But if it went on like this, I’d have to react.
“Thank you, Ben. You can go.”
But he hesitated. I raised an eyebrow at him and he gasped.
“I have something important to tell you, Alpha.”
I nodded, asking him to continue.
“I’ve found my mate.”
… … … … … … … … … … … … … … …..
Vera’s point of view:
Rosie looked at me fearfully, rubbing her hands anxiously as I stared at her.
“What is it this time, Rosie?”, I asked, grabbing some compresses and antiseptic.
I’d beaten so many alphas, but there were still plenty of enemies.
“How long is it going to go on like this, Vera?” she said, looking at the b***d dripping from my shoulder wound.
“I know I asked you to protect us, but… until when? Vera, I think we should accept Alpha Logan’s proposal… He’s your companion, after all.”
I stopped to look at her. Did she want to surrender? Why should she? I thought she was stronger than that.
“Now you’re on his side?”, I asked disappointedly as she approached in exasperation.
“No, Vera. That’s not why. He announced in front of the whole council that you’re his mate. He didn’t tell them about the Rebel and he even changed the council members’ minds to make you an Alpha woman for a month. He supports you, Vera… Maybe we can trust him.”
I poured antiseptic on the cotton, pressed it to my wound.
“I don’t trust him, Rosie. You can go.”
She sighed, looking at me sadly.
Something wasn’t right with her, I could feel it.
“I want to talk to you about something.”
She started again, taking a deep breath.
“It’s not about the attacks…. It’s about me, Vera.”
I paused, giving her my full attention. Putting the cotton down, I looked at her.
“About you?”
She shifted her weight from one leg to the other, placed her hands behind her back before continuing.
“It’s just that… I’ve… I’ve found my mate.”
“So?”, I asked, not understanding why she was telling me this. She was a big girl, she was supposed to replace him sooner or later anyway.
“What do you mean, Rosie. Say it clearly.”
She swallowed before continuing.
“The Beta Ben. He’s my companion.”
Her words shocked me-I hadn’t expected that. Now I understood why she was taking Logan’s side.
Damn it! It was because of this companion bond, she wasn’t at fault.
“I’ve met him in the last few days and he seems like a good person. He asked me to stay with him in his pack… He also said he’d talk to Alpha Logan… But first, I wanted to talk to you about it… “
You see, this is why I hated the concept of companions.
It blinds you and plays with your mind.
“I know Vera… I asked you to be the Alpha to protect us. But, we don’t know when the wars end. So, I think we can trust Alpha Logan, Vera. Ben told me about him… He’s not so bad. You’re hurting yourself fighting the Alpha day and night… Please…”
“You can go, Rosie,” I said, as my anger rose. Trust? Whatever happened, I wouldn’t trust this arrogant, pretentious man.
Even if he were my companion, I didn’t need him to save these people.
Rosie may have been weak, unable to resist the matebond.
But I was stronger than that.
“Vera, please…”
Slamming my fist on the wall, I almost yelled at her.
“I said leave, Rosie! Don’t make me say it again.”
Her decision was clear-she wanted to renege on her promise.
It wasn’t worth blaming her.
She wanted to live in Logan’s pack, she could go.
I didn’t need her anyway.
Tears streamed from her eyes, my words hurt her.
But, I ignored it.
“Rosie.”
A heavy voice rang out and I could already feel Beta and Alpha.
Ben was encouraging her to come to him and she reluctantly moved toward him.
Hoping I’d accept his apology.
He took her in his arms and soothed her while I turned my back on them.
They left and I continued to nurse myself, closing my eyes.
I was in too much pain from the antiseptic liquid and clenched my fist.
It felt good.
“You’re torturing yourself, Vera,” Logan gasped as he moved closer to me, and I held my breath.
I turned to leave when he grabbed my forearm to stop me.
“Let go of me,” I said, looking into his eyes. He was calm, but I was very angry that I was struggling to get out of his grip.
“Calm down,” he ordered as he placed his palm over my wound, hurting me.
I controlled myself not to scream, but he squeezed my arm even harder.
“Hush, a little patience.”
And just then, a yellow light appeared around his palms and my wound began to burn.
I looked up at him in surprise as he concentrated on my wound.
How could he do that?
Unless he… he was a Lycan.
He lifted his palms and my wound was healed. I looked up at him in disbelief.
He pulled me against his chest and looked down at me.
“How long are you going to turn your back on me, Vera?” he said and I clenched my fist.
I wanted to say, “Never,” but I bit my l*p. I held back.
“Stop touching me,” I said and he simply nodded, rubbing his palms on my arms.
His lips came close to my ears.
“I hate the smell of other males on you, my companion. Now, you’re going to tell me where he is, I need to get him out of your world.”
What the hell was that?
What the hell was he talking about?
Other males? Was he referring to the scent of the Alpha I’d just killed?
“Wha… What do you mean?”, I asked and he pulled away from me. He lifted my chin so I could look at him.
“Where’s the Rebel?”
