The Sweet Pursuit by Golden Autumn -
Chapter 220
The next morning, Hilde and George signed a collaborative agreement. Hilde only agreed to cooperate with a single party, which was the Laines. Hilde reached his hand out, "I hope our collaboration goes smoothly." George raised his hand and shook Hilde's. “Yes, indeed!" Hilde smiled and said, "Your girlfriend is truly cute, Mr. Laine. Thank you for replaceing the bracelet that my wife's grandmother lost long ago. We're truly grateful. Please convey my sincere thanks to her on my behalf, Mr. Laine!" "Thank you for your compliment. I will!" George smiled gracefully. Hilde replied, "We'll be flying back today. Let's keep in touch via phone calls." "Sure thing!" Hilde and his wife's plane was leaving in the afternoon, so Suzy and George sent them out of the manor. When they got back, they saw Winona waiting outside their villa. When Bennett learned that Hilde had signed an agreement with George alone, he hurriedly left in a huff. They did not expect Winona to still be here. Winona wore a long dress and had only put on a little makeup. She looked younger and fresher than before. She stepped forward with a warm smile and looked at George, saying, "May I talk with Suzy alone for a while, Mr. Laine?" George looked at Suzy, and she nodded at him. "Tve packed my things, so we can leave immediately later."
Since the matters in Cloud City were done, they thought of heading back to River City in the afternoon as well. Truthfully, there was nothing much to pack up. Suzy did not bring a single suitcase over. Her things were nothing more than some gifts that Mrs. Merck gave her before she left as well as some of Cloud City's novelties that George had prepared for her. George caressed her head and said, "I'll be waiting for you!" "Mm!" Suzy responded to George before saying to Winona, "Let's go!" The two slowly paced along the cobblestone path in the garden beside the villa. Winona started the conversation with a smile, "Mr. Laine's so kind to you!" Suzy raised her eyebrows, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with it. Winona smiled lightly and said, "When I got together with Bennett, I was about the same age as you. I had just graduated from college and had a lot of ambitions, but I couldn't resist his gentle approach. I plunged myself into love and stayed by his side for seven years! For the past seven years, I've followed him around to talk about business, watched him use all kinds of means to inherit the family business, and watched as he married another woman and had children with her." Suzy looked at Winona in astonishment. "Will you look down on me? I've always despised mistresses, but I thought that our love was genuine." Winona laughed self-deprecatingly, and her eyes were filled with sorrow. "I've been with him for so many years. Other than the fact that he couldn't marry me, he had always spoiled me. He took me wherever he went and was never stingy when spending money on me. I always thought he liked me and only married another woman for his family business. Up until..."
She choked slightly before continuing, "It wasn't until he asked me to keep Hilde company for this collaboration that I found out that I was not that important after all. But at the time, I was still obstinately persistent in going about things the wrong way and was willing to be exploited by him!"
