The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 117
Chapter 117:
? ? ? ? ?
Lilliana pushed Joshua away. “Joshua, I’m serious!”
Joshua touched her belly, tenderness in his eyes. “I too. In just a month, we'll feel the baby move. This is my first time as a father and I cherish our life together. Lilliana, you have to trust me. I've never cheated on you. You're the only person I've ever loved. Do you understand?”
Lilliana's tears had exhausted her, leaving her eyes empty. His mention of the baby moving out soon hit her deeply. As a mother, she wanted to provide her baby with a happy, complete family.
Because of this, his heart began to soften.
“Joshua…” She felt touched, and her doubts began to fade away. With tears still in her eyes, she said, “Joshua, promise me that you won't let me down.”
Joshua was relieved to hear her answer. He gently ran his hand down her back. “I promise. I won't be going to the office for the next few days. I'll be here with you at all times. Is that okay?”
Lilliana agreed.
Once Joshua got Lilliana to sleep, her gentle expression faded.
Meanwhile, Alice opened the bag Caden had given her. Inside, she found several types of underwear. Some were disposable and others were made of soft cotton. The designs were simple, nothing extravagant, but well made.
Alice put on her cotton ones, and a strange feeling came over her. She touched her cheek and noticed that it was flushed. She looked out of the window, and the sight of the autumn landscape drew her thoughts elsewhere.
Before she knew it, sleep had taken hold of her again.
When Alice woke up, she felt someone hugging her. Whoever it was, their scent was familiar to her.
Still half asleep, she instinctively pushed the person away. “We're in a hospital. Don’t be so reckless… Wait.”
Suddenly, she felt something unusually soft in her hand. She opened her eyes with a start and realized she was holding a soft breast, probably a C cup. Startled, she opened her eyes fully and looked up. “Monica?”
Alice turned around, trying to recover from her embarrassment. “When did you get here?”
Monica narrowed her eyes and leaned in. “Who exactly did you think it was?”
Alice was speechless.
She had felt comforted by the smell, thinking it belonged to Caden.
“I…” Alice turned her head, avoiding Monica’s gaze. “No one. “I was just having a wet dream.”
Monica didn't seem convinced.
“Yeah, because I’ve had wet dreams too,” he said sarcastically. “You looked too guilty for it to be just a wet dream.”
Monica's expression hardened. "Who is this mysterious man you're hiding?"
Alicia replied softly, “It's definitely not Joshua. “You can be sure of that.”
"Did you sleep with that man?" Monica insisted.
Alice groaned and closed her eyes. “Suddenly, my head is killing me.”
Monica stared at her, exasperated.
Frustrated, Monica lightly slapped Alicia's bottom.
Monica then looked at her seriously. “Are you really happy with him?”
Alice paused for a moment to think.
In a way, yes. Especially when it came to sex.
Caden had a touch that was hard to forget.
“Yeah, I guess,” I muttered.
He had come to her rescue more than once.
And even if his intentions weren't entirely selfless, it didn't change the fact that he had helped her a lot.
Seeing that Alicia seemed happy, Monica decided to let it go.
"So how long are you going to keep pretending with Joshua?"
Alicia sighed. “At first, I was planning to gather more solid evidence through the Gray family, but it turned out to be much more difficult than I expected. “I had barely started, and now I’m stuck here in the hospital,” she said solemnly.
Monica looked at her worriedly. “For now, avoid anything too dangerous. Try to replace other evidence.”
"I've already hired someone to look for evidence of Joshua's affair with Lilliana during our marriage. Maybe that will be enough," Alicia replied.
“Joshua is a shrewd man,” Monica warned. “And even if he gets all the evidence he needs, what happens next? Have you thought about how you will deal with retaliation from the Yates and Green families?”
Alice had once been fearless, feeling invincible because nothing had happened to her before. But now, with her injuries, she realized how dangerous these people were.
Monica knew they had to plan it carefully.
Alicia clenched her fists, determination etched in her eyes.
Caden's image appeared in his thoughts.
Facing the two powerful families alone would be impossible, but with a strong ally, she had a chance to change the outcome.
Once Monica made sure Alicia was okay, she slipped out of the hospital, avoiding any trouble with the nurses.
Shortly after Monica left, Hank entered the room, carrying a basket of fruit and flowers.
“Mrs. Bennett, are you okay?” I have asked.
Alice accepted the gifts with a polite smile. “They are just a few minor injuries. “Thank you.”
“I'm terrible at picking out presents and I wasn't sure what he'd like. Mr. Ward picked out the fruit basket and the flowers,” Hank said, glancing around the room. He relaxed when he saw that there was only one nurse in the one-person room. “It's getting late. I'll be going now. Get some rest.”
Alice agreed. “Okay. Take care of yourself on the way back.”
Once Hank left, she looked at the luxurious fruit basket, feeling confused.
Since when had she gotten so close to Hank?
As soon as Hank left the hospital, he texted Caden. “Mr. “Yates didn’t spend the night at the hospital.”
