Chapter 247:

Caden appreciated talent, and Yolanda certainly had plenty of it.

I really admired his skills.

Alicia couldn't help but smile, feeling happy for him.

"That's wonderful.

I've heard so much about the Moss family's achievements.

They're really impressive," she said.

Caden nodded thoughtfully.

“Dorian is getting older, and Yolanda hasn’t been well.

I have to put my other projects on hold for the moment.

Alicia resisted the urge to ask about Yolanda's condition.

She had learned to avoid prying too much into Caden's personal affairs, fearing that showing too much interest might drag her back into emotional complications she had only recently managed to escape.

But to say that he didn't care at all would have been a lie.

“Hello, Caden,” Alice said suddenly, a thought popping into her head.

She nudged him.

“Could you please remind the housekeeper to feed Cade tomorrow morning?”

“Sure,” he replied, reaching out to shake her hand.

Her hand was slender and soft, though he noticed the slight roughness of calluses on her fingertips.

"What's the reason for these rough spots?" he asked, gently running his thumb over her fingers.

Alice looked at her hand.

“Too much paperwork lately.

“Are you left-handed?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Alice nodded.

“My father didn’t like me being left-handed.

He tried to correct me when I was young, but I always found it more natural to use my left hand.

She paused, her thoughts drifting back.

Before her divorce, she had always felt limited, constantly striving to meet the expectations of others.

But opening her gallery had changed everything.

For the first time, she felt like she was truly living for herself.

She turned to Caden, her gaze soft with genuine warmth.

“Thank you, Caden.

Caden's response was a light chuckle.

Leaning down, he pressed his lips to hers in a tender, lingering kiss.

When they parted, her eyes sparkled with mischief.

“Don’t forget about Cade, okay?”

Caden let out a thoughtful sigh, leaning back and staring at the ceiling.

“Maybe I should change my name,” he muttered, half-joking.

Alice laughed softly, wrapping herself in the blanket as she turned onto her other side, falling asleep.

The next morning, upon entering her office, Alice saw an anonymous package on her desk.

Assuming it was something he had ordered online, he unwrapped it nonchalantly.

To his surprise, inside was a sleek, compact smart device measuring half a metre in height.

Recognizing it as one of the latest releases from Caden's company, he smiled, assuming it had been sent to him to test.

With a small smile of curiosity, he turned it on.

His smile disappeared in an instant.

Suddenly, the device projected a video on the wall: a disturbing scene in which the female protagonist found herself in a degrading position, being abused by a group of men.

Alice blushed with astonishment and her heart beat fast.

She turned it off quickly, her hands shaking.

She was relieved to realize she was alone.

The thought of someone else coming in and seeing the video made her stomach turn with mortification.

Anger washed over her as she picked up the phone and dialed Caden's number.

Caden was in the middle of a meeting, but as soon as he saw Alicia's call, he answered without hesitation.

"Caden, you sick bastard!" she snapped, her voice high and furious.

There was a moment of silence at his end.

Alice's voice, although not on the speaker, seemed to echo in the solemn atmosphere of the room.

Caden's employees froze, bowed their heads and pretended to be absorbed in their notes, avoiding eye contact with their boss.

Caden quickly ended the call, his expression tense as he headed into the living room.

“Now, where were we? Keep going.

Meanwhile, as her initial fury calmed down, Alicia glanced at her phone and noticed a message from Caden:

"I'm in a meeting.

I'll deal with you when I'm done.

"

The direct tone of the message made her pause.

His anger began to wane as realization dawned on him.

Something didn't fit.

She knew Caden too well to believe he would send something so twisted, even if his tastes sometimes leaned toward the unconventional.

Puzzled, Alice examined the package again and noticed that the sender's details had been meticulously erased.

She quickly called the receptionist to ask about its origin and learned that it had arrived via courier.

Just as the call ends, the phone rings again.

The caller ID showed an unknown number.

Curious but cautious, she answers.

A soft, mocking voice comes through the receiver.

"Did you like the gift, Mrs.

Bennett?"

Alicia's heart sank when she recognized the voice: it was Yolanda.

Yolanda continued, in an almost apologetic tone: “I couldn’t attend your celebration party yesterday for health reasons.

I’m very sorry.

Alicia’s jaw tightened, but she kept her voice calm and unwavering.

“You don’t need to apologize, Yolanda.

I didn’t invite you in the first place.

Yolanda laughed softly, her voice dripping with feigned innocence.

“Did you like the gift?”

Alice's stomach turned as she recalled the video.

Forcing herself to keep her composure, she replied, "What are you getting at?"

“Oh, isn’t it your role to please Caden?” Yolanda’s words dripped with insinuation.

“You haven’t been with him long and you’re quite young.

I thought some… resources might help you learn.

Caden would be delighted as well.

Alice's lips curved into a cold smile.

"Are you speaking from personal experience, Miss Moss?"

Unfazed, Yolanda replied softly, “No, not at all.

But you reminded me of the girl in the video.

I was struck by the resemblance, although your potential seems greater.

I’m sure you’ll eventually surpass her.

His tone was still soft, almost pleasant, but his words were laced with venom: a subtle jab delivered without a single harsh word.

Alicia's voice remained firm.

"If you have something to say, Yolanda, say it.

There's no need to pretend.

"

I knew the video was just the beginning of Yolanda's plan.

Yolanda let out a mocking laugh.

“You are a clever woman; do I really need to explain it to you? Women like you cling to virtue as if it were all they have.

It is admirable, really.

His voice softened, but his words struck a chord.

“After all, what else do you have to offer?”

Alicia picked up on the ominous tone in Yolanda's words.

"So, are you saying that if I don't comply, I'll end up like the woman in that video?"

“Miss Bennett,” Yolanda purred, her tone feigned sweetness.

“You are very clever.

Now it was Alice’s turn to laugh, her voice carrying a note of defiance.

“Miss Moss, I suggest you enjoy what you’ve earned so far.

You’ve been a great help to Caden, and you’ve clearly succeeded in many ways.

Congratulations.

His tone hardened, sharp and unwavering.

“But let me be clear: if you intend to break the law, I am not a coward.

I will defend myself at all times.
