True Love
(Book 2) – Chapter 76

What could I do, face that issue once and for all. She knew she wouldn’t budge from there, as stubborn as she was. He steeled himself and prepared to stand up, turned around where he found his towel and completely ignored him. She didn’t care what she thought even if she was scared to death. He looked at her, very surprised, at her very slightly bulging belly. In fact, her wet blouse had stuck to her body, revealing her secret. She covered herself with the towel and waited for the verdict. from Jack.

The silence became eternal between them, and in Jack’s eyes there was great sadness as if he had lost something very valuable. She wondered if she would be able to suspect that the baby was his.

− I have to go now!

− Why hadn’t you told me?

− Jack, this is not the time.

− When I went to see you you were already pregnant, and you still made love to me. When you got here were you pregnant?

He thought that she was already pregnant long before, for God’s sake she couldn’t believe it, she looked at him with wide eyes. Did he believe that his baby was someone else’s? What kind of woman did he think she was? If she had been pregnant by someone else, she would have been more than six months old. According to the doctor and her accounts, she had gotten pregnant the first time she had been with Jack. She remembered that neither of them had taken any precautions. In fact, none of the times they were together used a condom. What was I thinking?

− Do you think that, Jack?

− I think you don’t care what I think!

− Then think whatever you want. He put on his dress and prepared to walk.

− When you were sleeping with me, did you have another relationship in Atlanta?

− Because you have to be so rude and such an idiot Jack. Leave me alone!

She picked up the rest of her things as best she could and continued walking, Jack’s horse was tied to a tree grazing.

− Wait… Aren’t you going to tell me anything else?

− What do you want me to tell you? That I’m pregnant, that I’m going to have a baby. Is that what you want me to tell you? What are you a brute?

− I want you to tell me if you made love to me while you had someone else in Atlanta?

− I don’t have to tell you anything! You and I do not have any type of relationship, you clearly left it to me. Then I don’t want you to demand anything from me, besides you don’t have a date tonight, what right do you have to come and demand anything from me?

− A date! He exclaimed in surprise, could it be that she was referring to the meeting with the cattle buyers that she had that night in her office? How did she know that? –Listen Megan…

− No! Listen, I don’t want you to tell me anything else. I want you to understand that I am pregnant and this is none of your business. She continued walking but he was fast and caught up with her.

− Why didn’t you tell me?

− Let it go, Jack!

− I won’t do it, I need to know.

− Since when with a demon? She yelled at him. –You haven’t bothered to see me these days that I’ve been here and when you went to see me in Atlanta you just wanted to sleep with me, don’t tell me that you care why I didn’t tell you, I’m not going to believe that story. It’s over Jack, I’m pregnant and nothing else can be done.

− Will you marry the baby’s father? He asked, frowning, waiting for her response.

It took Megan several minutes to answer such an easy question, while she had him in endless agony.

− No!

No matter how crazy and selfish she seemed, she was relieved to know that she was not going to marry the father of her child, but then what was happening there, had that unfortunate man gotten her pregnant and abandoned her?

− Why? Where is the baby’s father?

− He doesn’t want to marry me, simply because he doesn’t love me.

− That means, do you love him?

That was worse than knowing that her guy didn’t want to marry her, but that she was in love with him.

− Yes. He is the father of my son. Jack, please don’t continue, I’m tired and I want to go home, well your home.

He was stunned by the response he just heard, as he watched her leave. She loved another man and her love was not reciprocated. Would she have gotten involved with someone who was married? No! That was impossible, Megan was not that type of woman. But she was pregnant and that baby was not hers.

It had been a crazy day for poor Megan, confronting Jack and then confronting her grandmother and continuing to lie about her real father. In the end, her grandmother, after so much sermonizing, was happy for her news and assured her that she would pamper her for the few days that she stayed at the ranch. She also told her that she would travel for the birth of the baby.

When she was already lying in her room, she couldn’t stop thinking about everything Jack had told her, she really was such a beast not to realize that he was the father. Although he did not ask her the gestation period, he himself decided to draw his own conclusions from her, “what an idiot,” while her head was bursting, surely he would already be ready for her date. She decided that the best thing was to sleep and not continue thinking about it.

Megan was fast asleep when soft knocks knocked on her door, waking her up with a start, she felt somewhat disoriented but then she understood that the noise was coming from the door. She got out of bed half asleep and went to open the door.

− Jack? What are you doing here. She stifled a yawn with the torso of her hand.

− Were you sleeping? I ask innocently.

− It’s obvious! For God’s sake, what time is it, because you wake me up at this hour.

− I don’t know, a little after one.

− Great! What do you want? Don’t tell me that your date stood you up at the last minute and now you’re coming here to look for me, because I’m telling you, looking like this I doubt she looks at all attractive. And second, I have no intention of alleviating your frustrated date.

He entered the room without even waiting for Megan to give him permission, she had no choice but to close the door and crossed her arms.

− First, my date was not frustrated, on the contrary it went perfectly. And second, to me you seem like a beautiful, very attractive woman.

− Yes already! Well, if it turned out well, what the hell are you doing here? Because he dared to talk about her fabulous date in front of her, her jealousy had already taken away the little sleep he had left.

− I wanted to see you and talk to you.

− Oh sure! Am I your confidant or something?

− Hmm… he shrugged his shoulders. –The time seems fine to me, no one will bother us.

She hadn’t noticed how he was dressed, he was wearing jeans that fit like a glove, a white shirt and a gray jacket, and of course his Texan boots couldn’t be missing. She was really handsome that night, she had no doubt that her date would go perfect because that man smelled wonderful.

− Anyway, do you want something? Because that’s not what you came for. It was better not to look at him too much, she stood by the door with her arms crossed.

− I didn’t come because I want something specific, I just wanted to see you, I know you’re leaving tomorrow.

− That’s right, tomorrow afternoon.

− When will you return?

− I won’t be back Jack, I won’t be able to make these trips anymore, my grandmother and Melisa will travel for the birth of my baby and will stay with me for a few weeks.

He looked at her in silence, and that was beginning to make Megan uncomfortable. Because she didn’t tell him at once what she had stuck in her throat.
