Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 53

Gabriel doesn't really want to dwell on the problem of Maggie too long. He has got bigger problems than some disloyal b*tch that only serves her own self-interests. Not saying that she won't suffer, but that will come later. "I have been having these weird pains in my heart constantly, as has Maggie"

The doctor sits at the desk getting out his notebook and looking inquiringly at Gabriel, urging him to continue. The doctor doesn't want to appear impatient, so he doesn't dare glance at the clock again while he is under the watchful eye of his alpha. "It started a bit over a week ago. It started off small, a tiny bit of discomfort in the morning that then went away, but then I had an episode where the pain emanated so much that I nearly blacked out, that has happened a couple of times. The only thing I can relate it to is what Maggie is experiencing. The problem with the whole idea is that Maggie gets the same thing but hers is all stemmed from what her fated mate is doing"

The doctor nods in understanding it is not like it's a secret that Maggie and Gabriel are not fated, as Gabriel had to wait until the age of twenty-five to actually make Maggie his luna. If they were fated, it could have been done as soon as she got her wolf. "So let me get this straight, your pain comes the same way hers does? But hers is from her fated mate and yours is not?"

Gabriel slams his fist down on the bench, causing Maggie and the doctor to flinch back.

"How could mine be to do with my fated mate? Have I met her yet?"

The doctor is shocked by Gabriel's aggressive reply but can only say calmly.

"Could it be possible that you have and just don't know?"

Gabriel realizes that he has overreacted a fair bit, drawing unnecessary attention with his impatience, causing him nearly to slip up. Of course, there is a perfectly reasonable excuse and not one that involves any evidence of what he did.

He still has no idea what is going on on that front, but all he can do is agree with the doctor. Since the doctor is giving him an out, he will take it.

"Maybe that could be possible"

Maggie grips her still unhealed feet, pain radiating through her body, but she welcomes it as it is the only thing that keeps her from lashing out. If that is correct, if Gabriel does have a mate out there, would it be possible for her to even occupy the position of luna anyway? Won't someone else just breeze in and take the prize at the eleventh hour? All her schemes and all her evil deeds ending up fruitless? She ends up with no position, no man, no title and the life she had set out for herself ends in nothing.

Maggie tries to breathe through it and keep herself composed. She can't afford to lose her mind at this moment. She really holds herself back, but right now, the rest of her life depends on the fact.

Somehow, she needs to be able to replace Gabriel's mate before he does. If it really is the case, and why hasn't she come forward and how could Maggie even start trying to replace her? Will she be as easy to rid of as the other girls that Maggie deemed as threats before? If she is actually fated to Gabriel, won't she be strong?

Without Gabriel's nose, she has no way of knowing unless she is able to intercept the girl as she is coming for him.

But since this fated mate hasn't come for Gabriel yet, doesn't that mean that she hasn't realized it? And if she hasn't realized it doesn't it make it so she needs to be with him every second of every day to intercept any chance encounter? But by the time she has scented Gabriel, wouldn't Gabriel have also scented her and then maybe Maggie would be out of luck anyway. Maggie's hand around her foot tightens so much that searing pain rips through her body. Her legs are shaking, her entire being is anxious. Her mind working overtime trying to come up with any type of scheme that could get her out of this. Gabriel and the doctor only concentrate on each other, so none of Maggie's twisted expressions are seen.

The doctor moves faster than ever before, usually for the alpha he would put in his best effort and take his time, but he cannot afford the time. Doing as many basic checks as he can on the two short of sending them in for scans that will waste a whole bunch of time and have no results. Gabriel has already said the answer himself.

Gabriel already knows what it is, he just doesn't want it to be that, hence why he is in the hospital. Gabriel would actually rather have a heart defect than for his assumption to be true, but unfortunately, the doctor is going to leave him disappointed. "It is the fated mate bond, you are in incredibly good health"

"But even if that is true, why is there the constant pain, why is there not just the pain from the s*x?"

The doctor rubs his chin thoughtfully. There is very little research on such things as, usually, when someone replaces their mate they will honor the bond.

"If I had to guess, I would say that she is in love"

"What good is your guess to me?"

"Unless you can replace her and replace out, all I can do is speculate"

"But both Maggie and I started feeling the pain in the heart at about the same time"

The doctor chuckles, trying to lighten the heavy mood.

"Maybe they are in love with each other?"

Gabriel just glares at the man, nothing about any of this is the slightest bit funny.

"That is ridiculous. We have been having the pain of intimate contact at different times"

The doctor puts his hands up in defeat.

"Sorry, it was just a joke"

"Well it is not very f*cking funny is it?"

The doctor can only offer a half smile, frightened by the murderous look in Gabriel's eyes.

"Sorry alpha, my mistake"

"Is there anything I can do to fix it?"

"Short of replaceing your mate? Hmm there is nothing I can do but I have heard that there is a serum that will stop you feeling the effects of the mate bond" "Where can I get it from?"

"I wouldn't recommend taking it all the time"

"Did I ask? Just tell me the source"

"I will have to make some phone calls"

Gabriel stands up and walks toward the door, not even bothering to grab Maggie.

"Do that. I want results as quickly as possible"

The doctor nods and Gabriel storms out of the room, walking out with the exact same question as he had walking in. Is it really Leilani?

Maggie trails behind cautiously, careful not to damage her feet in anyway. She is already facing an uphill battle. The last thing she needs is for Gabriel to discover her secret.

The doctor rushes out of the room before the alpha and luna have even left the building, rushing straight back into the delivery suite. The nurse is in tears, the mother is passed out and the mate is rocking back and forward staring into space and as white as a

ghost.

"F*ck"

The doctor rushes around using all the emergency equipment in a practiced manner, he knows that it hasn't been too long, he can still do it, he can still save the baby. He ignores the rest of the room and does what he does best.

What he does best is not cater to the hierarchy's unreasonable demands and selfishness. What he does best is save lives.

A loud baby cry resonates throughout the room, the happiest sound in the world. The doctor sighs a breath of relief but continues his work. Cursing Gabriel under his breath, it never had to come to this at all. If they had of taken a minute longer, the baby would have died, a pack member would have died needlessly.

Maggie catches Gabriel just before he slams the door of his study.

"Gabriel"

She whispers softly. Gabriel's icy pale blue eyes look up ready to tear her to shreds with one look, but he doesn't open his mouth.

"About us?"

Gabriel sneers.

"Go clean yourself up you wh*re, the only thing you have of value is your looks and that p*ssy. Today one is gone and one is nearly hanging out. If you want to apologize, don't try and do it in clothes you tried to seduce others in" Maggie starts to open her mouth.

"Do you even listen you b*tch, take that sh*t off before I rip it off and strangle you to death with it, you make me sick"

Gabriel slams the door in Maggie's face. Maggie's heart that was in the air settles slightly. He didn't kick her off pack so that is a bonus.
