Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 157
"Can't trust you, who knows what might happen if Finnian takes you away."
"What do you mean him taking me away? I took him to the hospital," Amara retorted, rolling her eyes.
She plopped down on the couch, pulling down her mask to take a sip of water. Keith watched as she drank, her lips a rosy pink, and her face as stunning as ever. He found himself staring.
"Has Finnian ever seen your face?" Keith blurted out of nowhere.
"No," Amara replied, surprised. "Why do you ask?"
"No reason," Keith said, turning his head quickly as he noticed Amara gazing over. His heart was pounding like a drum.
Once he calmed down a bit, he suggested, "Why don't you file for divorce?"
"No way, I'd lose the case," Amara said, sounding defeated.
"I'll help you," Keith offered eagerly. "If we just keep pushing with money, we can win this."
"But the Everly family has deep pockets too, and they're powerful. If we go head- to-head, we might lose everything."
Keith nodded, knowing she was right. The Everly family was wealthier and more influential than the West family; he fell silent.
Keith watched as Amara started tidying up the table. Suddenly, he leaned over and pinched Amara's cheek.
"Ouch!" Amara exclaimed. "What was that for?"
"Nothing, just felt like it," Keith replied with a cheeky grin. He laughed to mask the unease bubbling within him.
He couldn't take his eyes off Amara; the more time his contemplation took, the harder he could look away. What happened to him? Why was he always thinking about Amara? His feelings for her were definitely changing.
...
After leaving Amara's apartment, Keith didn't feel like going home. He wandered around and decided to call Elysia.
"Hey," she answered.
"Are you busy right now?" Keith asked.
"Nope, what's up?"
"Want to meet up?"
Elysia
and taken aback. Though she
were mutual friends of
Amara, they were not that tight or never hung out just the two of them. This was a first.
"Sure, send me the address," she said finally.
Keith rattled off a place and hung up.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the bar almost simultaneously. They found a quiet booth, and Keith ordered a bottle of wine, pouring a glass for Elysia.
"Something's on your mind?" Elysia inquired.
"Yeah," Keith admitted. "I think I might have feelings for Amara."
Elysia nearly spat out her drink. Keith
quickly leaned back, looking offended. "Come on, even though I have a crush on Amara, it's not so surprised. Why reacting so drastically?"
"Of course it is! Even a fox preys farthest from his hole. You're breaking all the
rules here!" Elysia gazed at him contemptuously.
Keith was left speechless. He waved his hand. "Alright, alright. I'm breaking the rules. You happy?"
"But," he added, "I'm still a hundred times better than Finnian."
"True," Elysia agreed as she gradually processed the situation, wiping her mouth.
"If you and Ama are together, you two would make a good pair.
You know each other inside out, so there'd be fewer surprises down the road. And you really care about Ama. You always think of her first. If you keep that up, she'd be happier with you."
