Under the Veil I Rule
Chapter 159

"Was it your idea to have Finnian take me to the party? But honestly, I think he'd prefer to take Liliana, no?"

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Amara could almost feel Kevin's awkwardness through the phone.

Then, his irritated voice came through. "If he dares to take that actress, I'll break his legs! Don't worry, Ama. With me stepping in, he'll definitely take you out like a gentleman."

"Kevin, don't bother with all that. Finnian clearly wants to take Ms. Porter. Even if he's forced to take me, he won't be happy about it, and when he's not happy, he'll take it out on me, then I'll feel distressed."

Kevin had been ready to give her a pep talk, but hearing that she wouldn't feel great left him at a loss for words.

Amara continued, "Kevin, I've got some things to do, so let's leave it at that."

With that, she hung up.

That morning on set, she'd overheard Liliana telling someone she'd be accompanying Finnian to Mr. Cooper's birthday bash. So when Kevin brought it up earlier, she had flat out refused in her own way.

Keith strolled over, admiring how Amara's figure was elegantly outlined by the silver mermaid dress. He praised, "You look stunning."

Then he asked, "Did his grandfather call you?"

"Yeah."

"Ignore him," Keith scoffed. "The old man should know what his grandson is like by now, trying to drag you into this mess."

"Watch it," Amara warned as she nudged him. "Regardless, he is still an elder."

Really, it wasn't just about respect; Kevin had always been good to her. Besides, she'd already turned him down, so there was no need to bad-mouth him.

"What do you think of this dress?" Amara shifted the conversation. "If it's good, I'll buy it."

"Go ahead, it's on me."

Keith pulled out a sleek black card, heading towards the register.

Amara quickly shoved the card back at him. "No way, I'm not letting you pay. Na- na-na-na-na."

With that, she dashed over to the register and asked the sales assistant to ring up the purchase before heading to the fitting room to change.

Keith watched helplessly, opting not to stop her. As Amara was paying, her thoughts drifted back to the previous night's conversation.

Elysia had called, suggesting that if Amara and Keith made a splash by appearing together, people might misconstrue their relationship. This would embarrass the Everly family, and Finnian would be more likely to consent to a divorce.

Mr. Cooper's upcoming birthday party was a prime opportunity for such a spectacle, with all the high society folks in attendance. Elysia urged her to take Keith along.

Initially, Amară declined the proposal. She was naturally introverted, and the idea of being the center of attention was daunting. She'd never imagined herself to do

it. But Elysia had laid out the do

benefits, and after some thought, Amara agreed. She called Keith and invited him to the Cooper family's big bash.

Keith readily agreed and even suggested they shop for outfits together, which led to their little outing today.

The next day came quickly. After finishing her work, Amara started getting ready. She applied a flawless eye makeup and styled her hair into sultry waves.
