Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 165
She felt a piercing glare fixated on her, seemingly from straight ahead. It had to be Liliana.
Right now, Liliana must absolutely despise her, despite the fact that she never intended for today's events to unfold the way they did.
Nearby, Finnian was exchanging pleasantries with the Coopers, and Patrick mentioned that the rooftop was too chilly. They all agreed and started making their way back inside.
Once off the rooftop, Amara slipped out of Finnian's embrace, barely uttering, "I need to use the restroom. You guys go ahead and chat." With that, she hurried
away.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Liliana's eyes were red, brimming with tears she was desperately holding back.
Amara wasn't the only one who noticed this; Hogan did too. His anger flared up instantly, and he muttered, "I've got something to do, I'm heading out," as he quickly followed Amara's retreating figure.
"Hold it right there!"
Amara had just descended half a flight of stairs when the stairwell door slammed open.
Hogan stormed over, glaring at her furiously as he demanded, "Were you seducing with my brother just now? How shameless can you be! Do you have any idea how upset Liliana is? Didn't you see she was about to cry? You're so disgraceful."
Amara had also shed tears earlier, though she had wiped them away. Her eyes still looked red, like a little rabbit's. She stared intently at Hogan, acting on impulse. She raised her hand and slapped him across the face.
"Get lost! If you're into Liliana so much, go after her! Compete fairly with Finnian! Is anyone stopping you? Every day, it's always someone trying to irk me. What's wrong with you all?"
Hogan felt his cheek sting from the slap. He was about to explode when Amara unleashed this torrent of words, leaving him speechless.
"What nonsense are you spouting? When did I ever say I'm into her? Stop slandering me."
"You're acting like you have a thing for her, can't you see it yourself? Why else would you defend her to the point of twisting the truth?"
"When did I twist the truth?"
"Think about the first thing you said to me. Was that a reasonable thing to say, or isn't that twisting the truth?"
"You, you're the one distorting the fact and making a scene. You're really..."
Hogan clenched his fists and took a couple of steps forward, his eyes practically blazing.
Amara backed up against the wall, shouting, "I told you to get lost, don't touch me, don't talk to me, can't you understand?"
She was on the brink of losing it, not wanting to exchange another word with Hogan. After yelling, she lifted
the edge of her dress, turned on her heel and dashed away.
Watching her slender figure fleeing down the stairs, Hogan stood there, dumbfounded.
What just happened? He had planned to scold Amara to defend Liliana, but instead, he got slapped and then harshly berated. And then, the person who yelled at him ran off before he could even retort. What on earth was going on?
By nine-thirty that evening, Amara was back home, collapsing onto the couch without even taking off her shoes. She cried, her shoulders shaking with each sob, deeply hurt.
She didn't understand why things had turned out this way. Didn't Finnian hate her? If he did, why did he kiss her? What on earth was happening in this world?
