Under the Veil I Rule
Chapter 170

Amara stood at the entrance of the passageway, wearing her pajamas and slippers, eyes wide open in a mix of shock and fury.

Finnian got up and marched over to her. "Did you ask him to come over in the middle of the night?"

In the moonlight, Finnian's expression was dark and menacing, his mouth stained with blood, making him look quite terrifying.

Amara took a step back, gritting her teeth hard as she replied, "What's it to you?"

She knew Finnian had gotten the wrong idea.

Keith, who lived across the hall, must have been returning home from a late shift when he ran into Finnian. Somehow, Finnian assumed Keith was there to see her, and that misunderstanding led to their fight.

Amara had only just caught a glimpse of them brawling from her window and, in her anger, blurted out her words without thinking.

To Finnian, Amara's reaction seemed like a confirmation, and his gaze grew even more twisted.

Keith, meanwhile, had managed to get back on his feet and was now the calmest of the three.

He limped over to Amara, looking pitiful. "Ama, I'm really hurt. I thought I was a goner for a second there.

Look at this, all thanks to him. He nearly killed me!"

Amara knew Keith was exaggerating a little, but his injuries were indeed more severe than Finnian's. Plus, when she first ran outside, it was Keith who was pinned down by Finnian.

Having known Keith for years, her instincts naturally leaned in his favor, and her rage skyrocketed.

Without a second thought, she stretched and slapped Finnian across the face.

The sound echoed, leaving both men stunned.

"Get the hell out of here!" Amara shouted, pointing at Finnian, ignoring their dumbfoundedness.

"Leave us alone. Don't come back, or I'll call the police!"

With that, she turned and led Keith upstairs.

A handprint on Finnian's cheek was vivid, veins bulging in his arms, his eyes filled with a twisted intensity.

Back in her apartment, Amara sat Keith down on the couch and began cleaning his wounds with alcohol, prompting him to yelp in pain.

"Does it hurt? You should've thought about that before getting into a fight, you silly!" she scolded, giving him a light slap on the head.

Keith straightened up, trying to sound noble. "I didn't start it. He hit me first. I couldn't just stand there and take it, could I?"

Finnian had thrown the first punch?

Amara had assumed Keith had finally snapped after enduring Finnian for three years and decided to fight back. But it turned out the instigator was Finnian.

This revelation only fueled her dissatisfaction with Finnian even more.

Thankfully, it seemed Keith didn't know what Finnian had done earlier that night. If he did, things might have ended much worse. She must figure out a way to hide it from him in case the matter was escalated.

"You're impressive. Instead of being the usual craven self, you actually slapped Finnian."

Keith still felt surprised as he recalled the scene.

In his eyes, Amara had tolerated Finnian for the past three years, so her sudden defiance was astonishing.

Amara paused, and then replied, "You fought for me; the least I could do was stand up for you, you fool."

Over the years, Keith had fought

countless battles on her behalf. especially during the difficult years when she was recovering from her scars.

So, when Keith once again took a stand for her, if she hadn't done something in

return, she would have felt ungrateful.
